A woman comes out and stays on the phone while pointing to a room with a curtain, so we ask: "should I put on the shirt for tailoring?" A wave of the hand we interpret to be "yes". The woman pins the shirt and sleeves and says "it'll be $29 for the shirt and $12 for the sleeves, per shirt". She asked what I wanted and I said "so you see here around the shoulders--" "I don't do shoulders." "... yeah so as I was saying, the shoulders pull the shirt so that here on the sides is too loose" "Okay, I can do the sides". At this point, the communication, demeanor, and the price was not right for us. So we asked her to take the pins out and that we're going to get the shirts tailored elsewhere. "I say the price before the pins," (she didn't) "so that people know BEFORE. And this is the old price, not even the new price. This is the old price and I said it before so to avoid this". My friend was referred here for a wedding dress tailoring. Even though my sister had a bad experience with this business, she still went here. My friend gave them the benefit of the doubt and went here, right when we got there she tried to tell us the price should have been higher. This is not what she quoted a month ago. She had an entire month to change the price and she did nothing. Then she tore the dress and blamed it on my friend. The tear was where the bustle was so here was no chance my friend could have done that. The seamstress was nice and fixed the tear when my friend tried the dress on. The seamstress kept telling us she works hard, I did not feel it was relevant to say that to us since we never said anything remotely close to her lack of work or professionalism. My friend let her know the work she did was great and apologized for being wrong about the length of the dress. What the three of us did not appreciate was her tearing the dress and blaming it on the bride and not having it ready on the arranged day. I cannot recommend this tailor again to anyone comfortably. We love H&A Tailoring! My wife and I purchased wedding dresses at Della Curva in Tarzana, who highly recommended Hermine at H&A. We are so glad we went to her! She made us feel comfortable and did truly incredible work on both of our delicate (and giant) dresses! My dress was over 20 pounds of material with a beaded bust that was way too big. After a fitting at H&A, they managed to perfectly resize the bust without changing the beading! My wife had delicate lace sleeves that were tailored perfectly, and both of us required bustles to be added. I'm dead serious when I say that Hermine's bustle technology is incredible! I came here on Tuesday to get a pair of pants altered. There was a long line to wait, and the only woman working there was wearing a mesh face mask. Considering the gravity of the pandemic, especially with the rise in cases due to the delta variant and the reinstated county-wide indoor mask mandate, you would think (or at least hope) that a small business owner would take COVID precautions more seriously. Who even makes mesh face masks? That completely defeats the purpose of wearing a mask. The building was even air conditioned, so it's not like working in hot conditions was an excuse not to obey the mask mandate. I walked out of here immediately and will not return. read more

I experienced the most amazing service with the staff of women here for my wedding dress alterations! They were truly considerate of my vision for my dress and had such skilled input about any other adjustments needed to best fit it to my body. I had a fairly quick turnaround from my engagement to my wedding (8 mos. total) and was repeatedly warned by every wedding dress shop I visited about timing on finding, ordering, and tailoring a dress. Given mine was being made and imported from Turkey, and arriving only 2 months before my wedding, H&A was the perfect fit to get this done efficiently and professionally. I had my wedding dress weeks before my wedding, which I was told would be a very unlikely circumstance given my short engagement period. This process of my engagement was the most fun and sweet because of the reliability of H&A! They allowed me to feel so welcomed and cared for, it felt like I was spending time with my own grandmothers and aunts. I cannot recommend this shop enough! read more

I really really wish I could give 5 stars. The work was done well, no doubt the tailor is a perfectionist and a hard worker. This review is not meant to be personal attack against her character at all, however I feel that I have a responsibility to tell other brides what I experienced so they can decide for themselves if this kind of business and professional behavior fits their needs and expectations for their big day. Everything went fine for my first fitting and second fittings. My second fitting she rescheduled on me but I didn't think much of it. I understand that we are all human and have lives outside of work. No questions asked I was willing to reschedule for the next day. I was quoted $500 during my first visit which I felt was reasonable for the detailed customizations I was asking for. She had my dress for a little over a month and like I said we had already done 2 fittings, so I was expecting everything to be done by the date of my last fitting. The day before my last appointment she texted to reschedule my appointment for 11am the next day saying that my dress was not ready yet. I was still kind and understanding because I see the lady works hard and does mostly everything herself. Then again she texts me the morning of my rescheduled appointment for 10am saying she needs until 5pm. This was extremely inconvenient for me being that I had family coming in from out of town and had scheduled my day with them around this appointment. She did offer to deliver it to my home which was kind but didn't work for me. I told her this is a lot of money for me to spend and for that kind of money I expect both quality work and timeliness. I came at 5pm and immediately she began yelling at me before I could even say hello. She said she was cutting me a deal because the work she did should have been $700 and not the $500 she originally quoted me. As a business You need to be transparent with your customers at all stages. I had 2 fittings and confirmed price twice and she never said anything about it being more expensive or more work during those previous appointments. She was trying to act like she was cutting me a deal but in all reality she knew she was wrong and that's why she was so defensive and yelling at me from the beginning. Overall I am satisfied with the work but not with the business operations and customer service I experienced. I know for a fact this is not the first time she has made a "mistake" on someone's wedding dress. My bridesmaid who I brought with me to pick up the dress took her sister there 2 years ago for her wedding dress and the SAME THING happened to her. At what point do you stop making these " mistakes"and causing brides so much unnecessary stress? Now that I know this has happened to other people it doesn't feel like a mistake, it feels very intentional and wrong. Hermine!!!!!! I'm sorry this review is a bit late. My wedding was on 3/31/23. I came here as a referral from the shop I purchased my dress from as their seamstress had to undergo unexpected surgery. I am so happy to have found Hermine she is an angel! With many years of experience I trusted that she could execute my vision. She had a positive attitude about executing the work and did not rush the process. She explained each time I visited for alterations (I think I must've seen her for adjustments about 4-5 times?) what adjustments had to be made. I first met her towards the end of January and received my dress before I left for my destination wedding in March. She is a busy lady but always very flexible with timing and changing appointment times and easy to communicate and get a hold of on the phone. This was important for me as well since my schedule leading up to wedding day was busy also. She was able to change the sweetheart line and add sleeves to the dress and added my requested slit =) Thank you Hermine for making me fall in love with my dress all over again. I came here to get several pairs of pants taken in and hemmed almost a year ago and everything came out fine. So I didn't think twice about bringing five new pairs of pants, two sweaters, a tunic, and an expensive hand-embroidered and beaded denim jacket to be altered a week ago. Maybe I should have. Because the results this time were VERY different. I asked if just two pairs of pants and the jacket could be done in a few days, as I needed them for the weekend. The rest could be done at leisure. Well, the jacket and pants were done on time. But when I got them home and tried them on, I discovered only one pair of pants had been done correctly. The other was still too wide in the waist. Not a big deal, entirely fixable, right? Except that wasn't the only thing wrong. I had brought the jacket to have the sleeves shortened. Which was done. ...Only the right sleeve was now shorter than the left by at least an inch, and very obvious. Mistakes can happen (though this would rank as a very pricey one). But the most maddening part was that Hermine absolutely REFUSED to admit that she'd done anything wrong! Even as I stood there with the jacket on and the right sleeve end hovering ridiculously short of my wrist, she kept yammering on about how she'd done everything correctly and it all measured perfectly. The fact that it did not fit correctly ON ME didn't faze her in the slightest. And even when I tried to just drop the issue of fault and get her to come up with a fix, she just kept insisting there was nothing wrong. Eventually, I came up with the idea to get some matching denim and put wider cuffs on, to make up the length difference, but then she rambled on about how she couldn't replace the buttons, and at that point I realized we were done here. I offered to pay her for what she'd completed, but wanted the rest of my clothes back. At this point, she tried to backtrack and offered to do the cuffs after all. But I realized I couldn't trust her not to make things even worse. I mean, how could I when she refused to admit she'd made a mistake in the first place? At least she handed over my clothes while refusing payment for any of it. But that doesn't make up for a ruined jacket, wasted time (right around the holidays), and the onus of having to go looking - again - for a decent tailor. I will not be returning, obviously. And I recommend others to be extremely cautious about using H&A's services as well. read more

So I got married in November of 2021 and I was a last minute bride trying to get alterations due to not knowing if our wedding would happen because of Covid. I was so nervous that I wouldn't find somewhere to get it done, specially with Thanksgiving around the corner. I was recommended by Della Curva to Hermaine and I am beyond thankful that they did! She took in my dress, shortened it, added little lace sleeps, custom tailored my bra so it fit better, sewed something into my tulle and did a custom bustle (my dress had layers so a standard bustle wouldn't work). She even took the time to match up the tiny flowers in the lace. (Which you can like barely see) but that attention to detail is exactly why I'm giving 5 stars! read more

This place is amazing and Hermine is an angel. After having many bad experiences with previous alteration places, Hermine welcomed me in and treated me great. I called last minute with a bridesmaid dress that needed to be reconstructed. After getting several ridiculous quotes from other stores, Hermine told me to come right in with my timeline. I tried on the dress for her that needed the following: taken in at least 1 size, add cups, take the length up several inches (I'm only 5 feet tall), and shorten the straps. After essentially pulling and tugging and using more pins that I thought humanly possible, the dress fit. She quoted me $118 for all of the work, and said I could pick it up in less than a week's time. On pick-up day I came in and it was all ready for me. I tried it on and she was able to fix a minor snag right then and there. No muss, no fuss. She's an angel. I will definitely bring her any further items to alter. Side note: this shop is located inside the outdoor mall on the first level, next to More Than Waffles. Parking can be a bit difficult, but the service is definitely worth it. read more

I went through the trouble of calling to confirm what I needed, coming in and putting the dress, shapewear and shoes on only to be told that a slit could not be put in my bridesmaid dress. The dress is a $100 chiffon dress from some website the bride chose with a couple chiffon layers and a cheap slip. I was told that the skirt couldn't have a slit because slits cannot be put in layered skirts. My wedding dress was 8 layers of fragile silk with a slip, far too expensive and a slit was put in... I'm sure they are great for simple alterations but my time was just wasted. Posting this review for others looking for complex alterations. read more

My wedding dress arrived one week before my wedding with as many imperfections as possible and she was able to completely transform it in two days. When I received my dress, I was furious: it was at least one foot long, had asymmetric cuts, not even my size, given the thousands of dollars I had paid for the designer to take measurements and make it exactly for me. I arrived to my appointment and they had me wait 30 minutes. I was patient and kind. Another customer arrived expressing this was the fourth time she had been rescheduled. I became worried and asked the seamstress if she will be able to take on my wedding dress alterations. She was very rude and said that she had hundreds of dresses to tailor and that if I was worried to leave go somewhere else. I could never imagine saying that to my customer.
