I'm from Florida and was visiting Tennessee for my birthday, but of course, I had to get a workout in! Luckily, we were only 10 minutes from Gym 5, and my older sister knew someone who worked there. The front desk staff was super helpful and welcoming--they made sure we had everything we needed and even gave us a quick tour. The gym's setup is fantastic! Cardio is upstairs, while everything from weights to outdoor rec and boxing setups is downstairs. I especially loved the outdoor workout space--it's such a nice touch. I just moved here from across the country for work and the first thing I did was look for a place to eat my Nestle Swolehouse Cookies! If you wanna have an increase in gains just walk through the door!! This gym literally has everything you need to get a diagnosis of swoliosis from your Dr. From the owner to the front desk workers this gym is a vibe.. Each and every trainer there is in shape and a subject matter expert, and the fact they have an outdoor area with turf is a sickkk bonus feature to add to the vibe.. not to mention they literally have the worlds strongest man who works out there too.. The place is clean.. it's unique.. it's all that and a bag of chips.. as soon as I walked in I didn't even need a tour I looked around and in 0.3 seconds I found home again Gym 5 is literally the best gym in Nashville. The only real iron pounder gym we found in Nashville. The staff are cool and accommodating. I forgot my headphones and they play great hardcore rock so it was nice to have some real lifting music for motivation. Great gym for serious lifters and gym rats. Was visiting from out of town. I needed a place to squat and deadlift for my prep. Was 30 minutes walking from my hotel. Would not recommend walking but drive over. Take a good look around east Nashville and you'll notice people are not generally "fit" or in great shape. Take a look at all the gyms and there is the answer. The staff here could not care less about you or your membership. They make that very clear. You don't matter and it's not your membership that keeps the lights on. It's a locals club and if you've been going to gyms for 40 years like me. You know the atmosphere I'm talking about. The hours, for a gym are laughable and with no reason. For every new chain taco place that opens in east I continue to wait for ANY national gym chain but I believe real estate priced them out. Orange Theory, Cross fit, Shred Shed and the 5 other group fitness places are simply not weight-lifting gyms. It's a shame because this place is a few changes away from being a good gym. The cleanliness of this place is DEPLORABLE. Literally one of the dirtiest gyms I've ever been in. I'm visiting from Philly and I just wanted a place where I could continue my fitness journey. I went 2 days in a row so I thought maybe it was just the staff on duty not cleaning but the place literally smells like a sweaty gym mat and it's stuffy. The equipment is old and the placement of the machines is chaotic. Not to mention literally everything was worn down and filthy. It's unfortunate because this is the only gym in the area that has weightlifting capabilities. The lighting is also horrible. There's dust and dirt everywhere and no one wipes down the equipment after. All the "staff" on duty weren't doing anything to maintain the cleanliness of the gym they were lifting and chatting. I told a worker that the conditions weren't nice and he looked at me like I was crazy and really didn't care. People come heee for convenience so they don't have to change anything but I wouldn't be surprised if someone gets sick read more

Gym 5 is an excellent spot with good equipment, a clean environment, friendly staff and courteous members. One should be aware it's an old school gym for lifting, not exercise classes, swimming or other extracurriculars. I absolutely loved it and will join when we return on a more permanent basis. As much as I try to restrain myself from jumping onto the bandwagon....it is necessary in this case. I joined Gym 5 in January and was drawn to clean and even low-key vibe because unlike some people, I come to the gym to actually work-out and not to find a date for Saturday night. My headphones and the latest issue of Vanity Fair are my work-out buddies for a reason! The staff was not pushy when I was debating on committing to another gym and has remained friendly. I don't go NEARLY as often as I should, but this place never seems really busy when I go but I'm not complaining. I will agree that the weekend hours are not in the best interest of their customers and that the class schedule is pretty uninspiring with only one class a day? I have been intrigued by the pole-dancing classes that they offer but don't know if I could hold my head up high afterwards. I pay around $40 a month but would feel better about my purchase with improvements in the hours and class schedule. Gym 5 is consistently one of my favorite things about living in East Nashville. Before I started going, I assumed from the exterior that it was a bougie gym. It is the exact opposite in the best way possible. I've been going for over 2 years now, and I absolutely love it. The people who patron the gym are all serious about their workouts, but almost none of them have the bad attitudes I typically encounter at other gyms in town. The trainers have become some of my best friends and are all super down to earth and upbeat. If you're looking for a place to workout and take weight lifting seriously, this is your place. If you want to do more casual cardio, they've got that, too. If you want to wake up at 6am and do strenuous group workout with a trainer, they've got that! AND it's less than $50 a month. My personal favorite area is the turf that extends to outside. There's nothing like breathing fresh air in the morning while doing a circuit. Check it out! read more

I'm a former YMCA member and switched to Gym5 about 5 months ago and I've been a pretty happy customer. It's a no frills gym with dedicated gym-goers, good alternative to the YMCA. I like: clean, no frills, great price (~$45/mo), cheerful staff, easy parking, rarely crowded, and has a good variety of equipment including: spin room, free weights, treadmills, cable machines, cross-fit area, and a stretching/yoga room. And yes, TOWELS are included :) I wish for: a pool, nicer locker rooms, better lighting in cardio room. read more

Little warehouse gym in East Nashville. The equipment is on the older side, and the hours are super limited on the weekends. I think dumbbells only go up to 100 (haven't been since summer 2018), and there is only a few squat racks. Not for the most hardcore power lifter, but you can definitely get in a good cardio or bodybuilding style workout here. Pricing is pretty reasonable compared to others and the staff is very nice. Once upon a time, I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted to eat it. I drank with impunity. I laughed at those who had to sweat it to the oldies. I had good genetics, a crazy metabolism and the right body type. Oh, how I loved my obliques. Then I turned [redacted] and Father Time decided that it was time to whoop my a$$. These are not my beautiful pecs. These are not my beautiful abs. Where did my glutes go? Sh!t. So, for the first time in my life, I needed a gym. Stat. For unto whomsoever much sexy is given, of him shall much sexy be required. I didn't make the rules; they're just what they are. So, a gym.... on the east side of town? Hmm. Lamenting my sad fate, I was spending time at the local liquor store when I spied (actually, 3 within a few blocks radius) Gym 5. 'Is this a gym or a personal training studio,' I wondered. I spied in the glass but, at night, I couldn't tell much. The website could go either way. I was gonna have to go check it out. I called, made an appt, and took a tour. The facility is not gigantic but it has everything that I (and most average gym goers) need. There's a spin room up front, a large cardio room in back, a multi-purpose training/yoga room, lockers (pretty industrial and a little sad but functional), and a good size weight room with machines, free weights, and the real-deal lifting machines. There's no hack squat machine and you're going to have to do your preacher curls with a bar but those are the only deficiencies I've noticed. The staff ranges from polite to very friendly and the gym goers are all decent sorts. This isn't a musclehead gym (even though there are several very strong sorts I've seen doing their thing here). This isn't a club (even though depending on who's working the front and what time you come, the music can be decent). This is a gym. You come here to work out. No one's paying attention to you and the gym has all shapes, sizes and types (including hipster gym rats; they exist on the east side). I've never seen people sitting around blabbing on their phones and taking up space, guys lifting more than they should and grunting as loud as they can, women working the room in spandex and not sweating, or old guys trolling the locker room. You can get in and out without much stress. I enjoy coming here. It was a bit intimidating at first (like I said, there are some big guys here) but once I got over myself and comfortable with a training regimen, I was able to get in to a zone and get my workout on. For $44 a month, you can't beat it. I'm pleased to note that I'm seeing results in my body, strength and stamina. The gym hours, though I wish they were open a tad bit later, work for me. There's a steady stream of clients throughout the day so if you're able to time your workout around the typical crush times, you should be able to get in and out and get a pretty good workout in without much interruption. I've never had to sit around and wait for weights, room or a machine. And even when I'm there with a lot of other people, I still manage to figure out some decent work arounds. Let me start this review by saying that I judging this gym on what I need out of a gym and not everyones needs. I am lifter and this gym is just OK at best. They only have one set of benches for incline, flat, and decline. They have one Smith machine and one squat rack and one preacher curl bench. The dumbbells only go up to 100lbs and the workout area is so small that it hardly gives you room to lift without getting in someones way. They do not have a true leg press slide instead they opted for one they inverts that does not let you get proper extension on your legs and does not let you have the option to work calves. The cardio room is very good. They have plenty of treadmills and even a stretch rack which is nice. Also you dont see many gyms anymore with heavy bags so this place having two was a pleasant surprise. The locker rooms were clean and had plenty of lockers. The front desk staff was very friendly. So, If you are looking for a gym to just do cardio and maybe hit a few exercises on arms and maybe attend a class or two then you will really like this place. If you are a lifter and need a place to train then you might seriously want to keep looking because you will not be happy here. read more

The douche factor is high here, but it's a gym so what do you expect? How about open decent hours? Why Gym 5 do you close at 5 on Saturday, and 4 on Sunday? I'd like to work out on my schedule not yours for $50 a month. They also close on holidays with little or no notice. (Could you post a sign or something?) It tends to get crowded right at 5:00, which is understandable, but... they frequently run out of towels which seems like it would be easily prevented by a little planning. On the plus side, they do have a pretty great selection of equipment, and the place is clean. read more

Standard bare-bones gym. It's got all of the essentials without a lot of the perks that make other gyms twice the price. Hopefully, as more people join, they will expand the class schedule (which is also pretty bare bones - yoga twice a week and a kickboxing class on the weekends). But, I guess it's one of those chicken and egg scenarios. It's hard to expand without demand and it's hard to generate demand without a better product. At the end of the day, I think that Gym 5 is fine. They've got what I need to work out. It's not super crowded. The personal trainers seem pretty nice (and they seem to have decent rates). And they're aware of the need to upgrade things - I feel like Gym 5 is a work in progress, and that it will improve over time. Plus, for $37/month I can't complain too much. read more

It has several squat racks, 2 deadlift/Olympic lifting platforms, plenty of machines, cardio equipment, dumbbells etc., and a pretty cool outdoor area with turf, sleds, and some more racks. This is the best gym I've found in East Nashville. I prefer the bare bones gyms - I'm sure the YMCA and other "clubs" are nice but I hate paying a premium for amenities I will never use. They have 3 squat racks (one full rack and 2 half racks that still allow full squat depth, which is great). To be honest I've never seen any dirt anywhere so I'm not sure where this comes from in reviews. It's not a brand new building, but very few things in East Nashville are. I always see someone cleaning the facilities. I think some people see old buildings and think "dirty" automatically. The equipment could use a few updates, particularly cardio. I don't need attached TVs or anything but you can tell all of the equipment was designed over a decade ago. The WiFi is also very spotty and doesn't extend far beyond the lobby - eats up my data when I listen to Pandora. I would like to see some lights installed in the cardio area. I personally hate cardio and it doesn't help to be in a dark gloomy area. I would also like to see a deadlift platform set up. As it stands you currently have to awkwardly set up in the middle of the weight area. There are also no 35 lbs. plates which is kind of odd. They could afford to buy a few more attachments for cable machines as, from what I can tell, they only have one of each. Definitely worth the value, in my book. read more

I joined this gym in June of this year... I have lived in many different cities and belonged to all types of gyms. This place is great and here is why: - friendly, low pressure staff. - Very inviting classes (spinning, TRX, etc) taught but encouraging and knowledgeable instructors. - Extremely clean facility with good access to towels and water fountains. - Adequate assortment of free weights and weight machines. - Adequate assortment of cardio equipment with large flat screen TVs for distraction. - Good group of members... everyone i have interacted with was really friendly and no one made me feel uncomfortable. I am very demanding when it comes to my work outs and i get everything i need and more from this place. i just started the spin class and i am getting into some awesome shape because of it. Bottom line is that if you need more than this to get yourself to the gym then your $40 will probably be spent in vein anywhere you go. read more

I was hoping for a 4 star gym when I first joined this summer but I'm a bit let down each time I go. I pay $40/mo and constantly question canceling my membership. Pros: Super convenient location for those in East Nash and wanting something less crowded than the YMCA. Decent price. Cons: A lot of the machines and weights are very outdated... many treadmills don't work at all or feel like they may break on you. Many of the weight machines are outdated and don't work smoothly. I think for the price they could step up their game on the weights and machines. I realize East Nash is all about vintage and "old" but no one wants that vibe with their health and fitness! read more

Chose this gym because it's a mile from my house. Overall it's a decent gym. Pros: locations, parking is easy, decent cardio equipment, classes included, hardly overly crowded (except for 6pm). Cons: they are a little too frugal with air conditioning - it's always hot in the cardio room, some of the weights are pretty old. I pay $40 a month. My husbands is $30 since we pay together. Not too expensive for the quality of the gym. I think it's a fair price. read more

Great! I ducked in here randomly, while visiting the city on business, and my experience proved quite positive. Gym5 had everything: a full range of good, quality machines and racks, and the necessary compliment of free weights; a whole room of cardio equipment and mats (and punching bags!); extras such as tanning beds and snacks and what-have-you. The floor was clean and comfortable, as was the men's locker room. Also, the attendant who sold me my (reasonably priced) daypass was friendly and available. In the end, it all contributed to my having a good workout, such that I had to come back the next day and do it all over again :D Big thanks to everyone here, for providing a place for me to lift weights and destress.
