The Gyle is honestly just another shopping centre. Seeming much larger than the other malls in Edinburgh but still quite small compared to the big malls in Glasgow, the centre is bright and airy with a decent amount of shops. There are some shops here that you won't find in the city centre like WHSmith, The Disney Store and Morrisons combined with larger versions of high street stores like New Look and M&S, which are both much quieter and easier to navigate than their Princes Street stores. There is also a large Boots, a Next, generic coffeehouse chains like Starbucks and Costa and there are some stalls around the glass lift specialising in smoothies, cookies and pretzels. Upstairs, there is a foodcourt which offers Burger King, Metropole, McChen's, O'Briens and Spud U Like as its main vendors. Outside the centre is a branch of Frankie & Benny's. There are also cafes located within M&S and Morrisons. The toilets in the centre are pretty clean and are well maintained, which is rare for a capital city mall. With rumours of a new Primark on the horizon, an exciting opportunity awaits The Gyle. They will need to destroy some parking to fit it in but that doesn't matter. Just don't expect the Metrocentre and you'll be fine. It is just basic mod con shops. Nothing too fancy. read more

This is a decent shopping centre, you can get your essentials, but I don't know. It is lacking something. They have GAP, Tommy, and a bunch of American brands along with European brands such as Dorothy Perkins and WHSmith, but something was missing. Shoppers did not look happy... I feel a bit mean giving the Gyle a 3 star score, seeing as I've shopped here so much in the past, however the definition of a 3 star is "A-OK", and that pretty much sums up my thoughts. I'm not the biggest aficionado of shopping centres in the first place, which doesn't help, but having been around for a while, I think The Gyle probably just needs a bit of a revamp and some new, funky stores to give it a lift. Yes, it's handy, because being a shopping centre by nature, it has a roof over it, protecting you from awful daily Scottish weather, plus you can park for free. If you need something fairly normal and standard urgently, The Gyle is always a safe bet, housing Marks & Spencer, River Island, Accesorize, Boots, Dorothy Perkins, Gap, Starbucks, and HMV, amongst others. Most High Street outlets you will find, and it does have a Mathiesons in the Food Court, a brilliant wee bakery, with particularly tasty Yum Yums. read more

The Gyle Sopping Centre is, in my opinion, not the place to come if you're in Edinburgh and looking for a good day's shopping. Unfortunately, in comparison to Glasgow, Edinburgh doesn't really offer anything special in the way of shops. Princes Street, although it has a large selection, it about as good as it gets. The Gyle is clean, a decent size and has a huge car park. In addition, it's got most of the shops which you would expect, from Clinton Cards to HMV. The only thing I've bought is a box of chocolates for my mum from Thornton's last year for Mother's Day. As a shopping experience it's fine, but you can't help but expect a little more both in the way of shops and general ambiance. read more

I used to come here with my folks when I was fairly minute, and it was a modern and impressive shopping centre. Many moons later, it's still alright, but definitely feels a bit tired and in need of something new. Retail space in the city centre is limited for obvious reasons, and upon it's opening The Gyle was touted as the answer for Edinburgh's shopaholics. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, such a breed is quite rare in the city, and thus The predominant atmosphere in The Gyle is one of apathy. To sum up, it's basically slightly bigger branches of the stores on Princes Street, and little else. The thing I like most about Gyle is the continuous offers they have on the website. From food tasting to goody bags to fun-days for the kids, I have been to loads of great days and came home with bags full of goodies so that can only be a good thing! The centre itself is attractive from the outside, although it would look even better with a spruce up, and inside really. It isn't as comprehensive in shopping as Princes Street or St James Shopping Centre but it is a good alternative. It has loads of big names like The Disney Store, Monsoon, New Look and Marks and Spencers. The food court is good too and perfect if you don't want to venture outwith the centre. Considering it's the only shopping spot in a good 6 miles or so, the outlets on offer at the Gyle is pretty underwhelming, laden with all manner of mid-range retailers (Clinton Cards, Bargain Books) and an abundance of phone shops, the shining lights for me are the W H Smith (shockingly one of only 3 in the city) and Morrison's. Morrison's. It really is that hum-drum. Fair enough there's a big M&S at one end, but would it kill you to have an Xile? An Urban Outfitters? Waterstones? ANY form of independent retail? Even the food outlets on offer are pallid, to the point I'll choose the Morrison's rotisserie counter if I venture over there for food on lunch. I breifly visited the Gyle Shopping Centre once while I had my car up in Edinburgh and I was in need of some items that Princes Street had filed to supply. Having been to just about everywhere else, this was my last chance saloon - and to be honest, while it did deliver, I'm not sure how much of an impression it made. The main thing is that this place needs a good lick of paint and something new to inject the life back into it - its really is just a place where people come to shop, unlike Princes Street or somewhere simnilar in the city centre which has at least some pretty views and a sense of occasion. I'm not sure how to end this review - the Gyle Centre is a place to shop (obviously) when all you want to do is get your things and go. read more

The Centre is very light and airy as it has a glass roof which means there is natural light above you most of the time. It is also always clean and has a lot of space. The shopping mall is big, and has a good selection of shops. all shops are based on the ground floor. while the cafe/restaurants is on the top floor. which you can go there via the lift. For the cafe in the upper deck, it is smallish, and I did not go up there very often, as waiting for the lift was off putting enough, as i can see a group of people waiting for the lift, so I cant be bothered with these hassle. However on the shopping mall floor, it is great very easy to move around and it is quite open spaced layout, but you have to avoid bumping into the huge pots of plats which are plopped in some places around the mall, it is well light and bright, and the decor is modern, and it is very clean and very airy. The car park is ample, and huge, but you need to remember where you have parked your car in the first place, as I have spent a while hunting for my poor car! It is free as well, so it is great! But it is not great place to get out during the rush hours, as the roundabout nearby tends to get clogged up with commuters coming back to home, and it will take you hours to get out. So I think it is best worth to advise you to not to leave the Gyle at around 5 to 7pm, as the roundabout will get clogged up and it will take you forever to get out. so i think it is best to stay in and spend shopping and you can enjoy it more, than less enjoying yourself being idle on the tarmac outside! read more

The Gyle is ok but not somewhere I would go out of my way to shop at. The big M+S is probably the best thing about it - all on one level and great range of stuff. Food places aren't really anything to write home about - Starbucks your best bet or M&S cafe. Rest of shops are all pretty standard - nothing unusual. The Gyle is very handy for people who live on that side of town, however if you don't then it really isn't worth the visit. Ah the Gyle. Like a miniature version of Ocean Terminal. For people living on the West Side of Edinburgh it's handy for last minute pressies as there's a small selection of high street shops, free parking, and a Starbucks AND Costa. The center is open fairly late during the week so it's a good place to meet for a quick after work coffee and some window shopping. The food court is quite uninspiring so it may not be the best place to go for a bite to eat (although the Spudulike is good). Be warned that the Gyle is very, very small. You could get round the whole of the center in less than ten minutes. Estimates state that you could fit the whole of the Gyle into the Trafford Center food court four times and still have room left for a flagship Primark. read more

I'm not a fan of shopping malls at all, but the Gyle isn't actually too bad It's quite light and airy and it isn't stuffy and cramped like Cameron Toll. There's loads of parking and the travel links are great as you're just off the by-pass road. If I was to make one criticism, it would be that the selection of shops and restaurants aren't great. For the Gyle to become a truly interesting prospect, it would need to be a bit more like Ocean Terminal and introduce some fancy restaurants and perhaps a cinema. The gyle is fabby - it is open till 8pm Mon-Fri and 6pm at weekends. When you get nearer to Xmas the shops stay open even longer. There are really good shops and a big supermarket (Morrisons). Marks & Spencer, Next, Game, Wallis, Principles, Clarks, Boots and many more. The only downside is that there are not any shops that are that little bit different. Free parking, which is fantastic. The gyle had a food hall which is not brilliant (in my opinion) but it is certainly edible, and reasonably priced. The gyle always have interesting stalls and is always very clean. read more

As shopping centers go the Thy Gyle is one of the largest in Edinburgh with plenty of free car parking. The shops available are fairly standard, Boots, Marks and Spencer etc. There are no designer shops, your better looking in George Street in the centre of Edinburgh if thats what your looking for. The Gyle also has a large food court with the likes of Burger King, Spud u Like etc available. Getting to the Gyle made easy, with the number 22 bus every ten minutes from the center of town and the new tram way going nearby also. read more

On going up toEdinburgh came across this place which i thought was great, plenty of parking good bus service to town and other areas. Inside it is very spacious and bright and not stifflingly hot like in other shopping centres i have been in. Upstairs is full of eating places which i think is great as it keeps it all in one place, down stairs you have all the shops including a big M&S, morrisons supermarket and plenty of other shops. Christmas time was good time to go they had santa and his helpers for the kids to go and see really well set out. I went here today as usual. busy busy busy. I was walking round the centre nearly everyone was smiling. Most shops in which I recieved good service. One place in pericular within here was a chemist called boots. I was looking for something and got directed to the right place. When I got to the chechout the cashier was very social with customer service and ready with a smile. I rate this 5/5 because I go to this place a lot as it's quite local to me and the service usually all in all is very good. read more

working in the gyle industrial estate this shopping centre is the closest thing for a lunchtime escape from the office. so maybe i see it through rose-tinted shades while others may find this place a bit run down and lacking. but for me, it's a beacon of clothing shops, food options, and starbucks that i can visit during my lunch break and enjoy a bit of freedom from the office. i'm pretty sure when the gyle was first opened it was shiny and state of the art, but i do feel that might have been awhile ago. however what's on offer is still quite good, one of the largest marks & spencers food halls, a good sized morrisons, a huge boots, a decent new look and dorothy perkins, and my beloved starbucks. they also have a millie's cookie stand which Kelly F can confirm i have a serious love affair with. omg cookie cake anyone???? yes it is a bit dark and the food court has a lack of options if you're looking for healthier food, but it's still a decent place to spend a lunch hour or make an emergency run to boots for when you're run out of mascara or concealor. or when i've decided i just desperately need that new dorothy perkins dress i saw in my gossip magazine. i like this place, it's a-ok and despite being slighty aged still has a fair bit to offer. read more

American style shopping centre with a massive M&S. It's generally quite busy 12:00 -14:00 during the week as it serves the office workers. Also busy with older folk. The foot court is decent - there's a Burger King, a baked potato shop, a Chinese and a sandwich shop. I think that the River Island here is better than the one on Princes Street. Generally clean. Lots of parking available. There's nothing to rave about at the Gyle - it's a standard shopping centre! read more

The Gyle is alright, as shopping centres go, and will often have things that are sold out in the town centre. It's pretty far out and used to be only really for those with cars, but the new separate road for buses nearby makes public transport quite a good option. The best advice I can give about the Gyle, however, is that it must be avoided AT ALL COSTS during the Christmas shopping / January sales period. Being a non-driver it is important to me to have a place where I can get to easily with a wailing toddler in a buggy and which doesn't depress the life out of me. The gyle is such a place. I think it has an unfair reputation, okay it isn't bright aqnd shiny but it is a lot better than it used to be and there is quite a varied selection of shops there now. It is great to take kids to because it has the creche facility as well as a good range of eateries and toy shops. Marks and spencer has always been a big sell and it continues to be. I wouldn't want to spend a Saturday afternoon shopping in the Gyle but on a weekday it can be a really pleasant place to kill a couple of hours in. read more

An out of town shopping centre on the west side of Edinburgh. the main draw is the large Marks and spencer with its large food hall, two cafes and bureau de change. There are approc another 50ish stores, main chains eg. next, river island, new look, boots. Upstairs there is a food hall with a fair variety of snack food. I stay near the Gyle centre and enjoy going shopping there. It does not have as many shops as the town centre but is much more pleasant to shop in. It is open till 8pm most nights and has all the best shops, Next, New Look etc. It is normally relatively quiet so you dont have to contest with the mad rush that is the city centre, especially in the run up to Christmas! There is also a nice food court where you can have a full Chinese or a scone and tea if you like. Also there is lots of parking which is great! read more

A lot of people knock the Gyle, but I quite like it. Its a good size for a wander, has a nice big M&S and plenty of other shops and the food hall is good. The Gyle shopping centre is in the outskirts of Edinburgh City Centre, so easy access if coming from another area, even Glaagow as you get to it before Edinburgh Citry Centre, hence miss a lot of traffic. There id plenty car park spaces and it if completely free to park, bonus! They have all the typical shops that you would expect in a shopping centre, M&S, Boots, Ladies & Mens clothing e.g. Next Gap etc, Sports shops, Perfume shop, Travel agents, Morrisons, HMV, and of course a food court. I like the Gyle but then its close to my work and therefore easy to access. Large parking area which is not nearly large enough come Christmas. The Gyle has recently upgraded its catering side and offers a lot of choice for a snack or lunch. The usual range of shops in the Gyle but it does have a large Marks and Spencers which is very popular. Other shops include Boots, W H Smith, couple of travel agents (although technically now the same chain). A Disney store which is small and cramped due to be very popular.
