The mattress was covered by a plastic sheet which the continent amongst us may feel we do not need. Generally cleanliness was slightly below par. The lock on our bedroom door had the alarming fault of not opening from inside the room. Alarm was heightened by the phone being out of service when attempting to get help at reception. Located in Pembrokeshire, roughly a two hour drive from Cardiff. Hammet House is a hidden must-visit Welsh escape. Built in 1795 by Sir Benjamin Hammet, the grade II listed Georgian house has the perfect mix of old and new, with a clear focus on modern luxuries, great service and ultimate relaxation. The 15 Bedrooms are packed with contemporary style and luxuries, with Egyptian cotton on the beds, marshmallow pillows you sink into, flat screens on the walls and indulgent Ren products in the bathrooms. In the bar and dining room you'll find cool contemporary spaces to unwind, relax, eat and drink in, all brought to you with their easy-going yet impeccable service. *Hammet House is recommended in the Michelin Guide 2015. My Highlights: The Room: We opted to stay in the 'Good' Room and it's difficult to believe there are two 'grades' above this. My highlights include: * The HUGE floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the grounds. * Super King Size Bed. * Marshmallow Pillows. * The discovery of a small parcel inside my teacup which unwrapped turned out to be home-baked Flapjacks. * Bathrobes * Ren Toiletries * Fluffily Soft Towels. Dinner and Cocktails: Prior to our dinner reservation we were given the option to have drinks inside the library bar. My Highlights: * As we sunk into the Chesterfield armchairs a friendly member of staff came to take our drinks order. We tried both the Mango Frostini and Raspberry Frositni - the kinda cocktails that don't taste anything like alcohol - the best kind. * We ordered our evening meal without having to leave the comfort of our seats and were shown the way to our table post cocktails and complimentary nibbles. * It's here (if able) I would use a highlighter, glitter and ALL other means of grabbing your attention as our evening meal was UNBELIEVABLE and most definitely the most impressive two course meal I've EVER had! On entering the place with a jamming door there is a beautiful tile floor and all just looks crisp and nice. Meg, the lady of the house greeted us friendly and directly took us to our room. A nice big room with view over the pastures. Breakfast was rediculous, Welsh portions of great food. The porridge is a feast by itself, with poched fruits and greek yoghurt. We also had dinner here once, also very good. We had the chicken for mains, good but too much. For dessert we had bread and butter pudding, also a lot but very tasty. My room was ok, furniture and decor didn't really go, sort of 70's style. My travel partners room had a ocean view and was very nice. I would go back if I was in the area.
