Classical Bookbinding - The same Bible with a new cover and added ribbon marks

I reached out to several book binding companies to receive approximate quotes. I received quotes ranging from $200-$400. I was in shock! I decided to reach out to one more company and that's when I found Classical Book Binding out of Stratford, CT and received the most reasonable quote. We scheduled an appointment to bring the Bible in to have the cover replaced and I got to meet both Kathy and Steadroy. They are the nicest people and had a great sense of humor. Steadroy did an amazing job as you can see from the before and after pictures. I could not believe the details he added from the gold foil lettering and design to the embossed design details both in the front and spin. He is a true professional, craftsman, and artist. Kathy was a pleasure to work with in answering my questions, scheduling our appointments, and being so understanding and sweet. I HIGHLY recommend Classical Book Binding in Stratford, CT.

Classical Bookbinding did an absolutely fantastic job reviving my old family bible (Printed circa…read more1827) for a very fair price. The number of businesses that offer book restoration have dwindled greatly over the years, and fewer take the time to do it right. So its nice to see that there is still someone around with the passion and skill to keep our antique texts on the shelf. My book required a great deal of care and attention as it is very old and practically falling apart. What I received back was a solidly restored book, sporting a beautifully hand stitched and respectfully ornate blue leather cover, per request. A look fitting of the antique piece. Great care was also taken not to alter or damage the interior contents, including signatures on the original cover. The couple running the show are genuinely kind and welcoming and are serious about the work they do. If you're in the market to have a book rebound, give Roy and April at Classical Bookbinding's a call!

On an annual trip to NYC, I decided I would visit bookstores and take in all I could. They specialize in 19th and 20th century English and American literature, which means you're going to see a lot of titles you're familiar with. I stopped in late in their day, so I wasn't surprised to be the only one there, but the team gave me space, answered very basic questions I had, and - gasp - LET ME TOUCH THE BOOKS. This is far from a stuffy environment, and when I finally convince my partner that I need that very expensive piece that has F. Scott Fitzgerald's music for Princeton, I know exactly where I'll go.

Well, 45 minutes later, I was still oohing and awing at the marvelous selection of first edition books they have to offer. This is the largest selection (aside from corporate-owned Bauman's) of rare books I've seen that include the dust jacket- a collectors actual dream. It's the biggest breath of fresh air to find a rare book store owned by a woman, and to be treated like a human being. I normally get side-eyed from rare bookstore owners and some of the conversations I've had sound like: "May I see the Portrait of a Lady in the case?" "All of these books are at least $100.00 and up." ".....I know." "Do you have any Wilde?" "The book about the woman hiking alone? That's too new to be in our shop, Barnes & Noble would have it." "I'm talking about the 1800s poet." "Oh." I take it personally because while I look like a millennial who doesn't know what she's talking about, I treasure my rare books like they're my children. Sunday stayed AN EXTRA HOUR at her store while I looked and answered all of my questions that I had, never making me feel rushed or unwelcome. After selecting a first edition Fitzgerald, she wrapped it in bubble wrap for my travels back home and gave me an updated book with all of the rare book sellers in the country.

I knew this was a big request but Vahid told me he could get it done. When I arrived on Thursday morning at 10:00am, not only was the zine beautifully printed but all 25 were perfectly folded... saving me an hour of work! It's not often you find a business that goes above and beyond these days. I feel grateful to have Print Icon in our neighborhood!

I had a custom design made on etsy but then didn't know how to elevate the rest of the invite to make it a real wedding suite. After having a mini melt down, I'm so glad I came to my senses and went IN PERSON to Print Icon instead of just trying to figure things out online as we are conditioned to do these days. I walked into Print Icon and was instantly at ease as you could tell they have been in the business for years. I showed them all these ideas I had for inserts and they calmly said "sure we can do that, we can do anything" and they weren't kidding! I think for me the best part (other than the speedy return) was being able to literally sit down next to the designer and work through any and ALL small details, from wording, to paper, to colors and fonts. No emailing back and forth over the span of weeks just working with a real human and getting it done quickly! I was then prepared for it to take at least two weeks to make (because again we are conditioned by all these online wedding sites that there will always be a delay) so I was thrilled when Print Icon said "okay they'll be ready in a few days". This is a small reliable store that has been in the business for years and you can tell because they definitely have regular return customers that use them as their go to. I'm already looking forward to becoming one of those customers and returning to them for my thank you notes and whatever stationary needs I may have! THANK YOU LEON AND PRINT ICON!
