They graciously agreed to fit us in at the end of their day. Dr. Spruill evaluated our daughter and was glad we brought her in immediately. Though we had initially been told any procedure may have to wait, he stayed well beyond closing to make sure she received the surgery she needed. He and the assistant made sure she was comfortable throughout and called back today to check on how she was feeling. They communicated easily with my husband and I, ensuring we understood what was being done as well as follow-up precautions needing to be taken. We absolutely love this practice and I have frequently recommended them to friends and family! It is clear that they truly care about their patients.

I have to juggle appointments for three kids (plus myself) and I get super frustrated when an office is constantly canceling or rescheduling appointments on me. This NOT an issue with Vacendak Dentistry... if they schedule us, that is when we will see them! As an extra bonus - they always run on time!! Love it. When it comes to payment, they're ALWAYS up front with us about what the cost is before they do any work (barring anything unexpected, of course), providing a written estimate before they even go back. We have Tricare and our Dental recently changed VERY MUCH for the worse... they have been wonderful about maximizing our coverage and making sure we understand the costs of appointments and procedures before starting. I see Dr Dan, and he diagnosed my TMJ, suggesting we try a mouth guard as a potentially simple and less expensive solution before I spend a ton on orthodontics. The custom mouth guard (which was affordable for us) has helped a lot, relieving my jaw pain from clenching at night and I wear it during the day while working to prevent my jaw from locking. We are grateful to have finally found a wonderful dental office here in Hampton Roads that is so close to our home and cares so very much for each of their patients.

Konikoff Family Dentistry assured me they could help and got me in the next day. I was relieved. What followed felt less like patient care and more like a bait-and-switch. After X-rays, I was told they couldn't actually treat the problem and that I would need to see their specialist -- with an appointment scheduled a MONTH later. A month. For a cracked wisdom tooth causing significant pain. But somehow, despite being unable to address the urgent issue I came in for, there was still time to discuss teeth whitening treatments and tell me I supposedly had multiple cavities that would require extensive work. I left, found another dentist the very next day, had the wisdom tooth removed immediately, and was told there were no cavities or other issues. I understand referrals happen. Specialists exist for a reason. What I do not understand is bringing in a patient in acute pain, failing to meaningfully help them, then pivoting to cosmetic upsells and questionable diagnoses while they're sitting there suffering. If your office cannot provide emergency treatment, be honest about that upfront. Don't tell people in pain you can help, only to turn the visit into a sales opportunity. I would strongly encourage anyone seeking urgent dental care to get a second opinion.

If the office decided to stop accepting TRICARE, I believe it was their responsibility to notify existing patients who had appointments scheduled--especially appointments that were booked months in advance. Had I been informed even four months ago, I would have had plenty of time to find another dentist and avoid wasting my time, gas, and an entire morning. What also bothered me was that the office seemed more than prepared to collect a copay, yet there was apparently no effort made to communicate this major insurance change to patients ahead of time. I should not have to arrive at my appointment to discover that the office is no longer accepting my insurance. This was extremely inconvenient and, in my opinion, unprofessional. I understand that insurance contracts and networks can change, but patients deserve timely communication when those changes directly affect an appointment they already scheduled. When I initially called to schedule an appointment, I provided the receptionist with all my information. I was told that someone would call me back after verifying my insurance and scheduling my appointment. Two weeks passed without a return call, so I contacted the office again. I had to provide my information all over again, and the receptionist proceeded to schedule an appointment for me. I then completed all the required paperwork within the requested timeframe, two business days before my appointment, believing everything was in order. On the day of my appointment, I called to let the office know that I might be approximately five minutes late due to a train. That was when I was informed that my appointment had been canceled because of an insurance issue and that the office had supposedly tried to contact me. I understand that insurance verification issues can arise, and I have no problem with the office being unable to accept my insurance. However, what I find unacceptable is the lack of communication. I was never notified of the cancellation by phone, email, or text. No message was left at my number or my husband's number. Had I not called to report my slight delay, I would have driven approximately 30 minutes to the office only to discover that my appointment had been canceled. This experience reflects a serious breakdown in communication and professionalism. After making two separate calls, providing my information twice, and completing the required paperwork, I reasonably expected to be notified if there was a problem with my appointment. My concern is not that my insurance could not be accepted; it is that my time was not respected and that I was not given the courtesy of proper notification. Patients should not have to discover that their appointments have been canceled when they are already on their way to the office.
