The negative: Upsell, upsell, upsell... they try to sell you as many services and extras that they can. Yes, I want to know my options, but I felt like I was leaving an auto mechanic at check-out. I was provided with a long list of things that could be taken care of (these were not mandatory or immediate issues) and the costs. I felt the same pressure as at the mechanic that I was a ticking time bomb if I didn't immediately take care of these issues (such as re-doing fillings before they were even cavities again). My previous dentist would have never done that, but would have had an honest discussion of pros and cons on optional services and then would have simply left it up to me to act on when I chose. Summary: I will continue to go to this clinic as I know that you mostly interact with your hygienist and I absolutely feel comfortable with Stacey, and because overall the service was fantastic, and because I have no problem saying 'no'.

We have Tricare and our Dental recently changed VERY MUCH for the worse... they have been wonderful about maximizing our coverage and making sure we understand the costs of appointments and procedures before starting. I see Dr Dan, and he diagnosed my TMJ, suggesting we try a mouth guard as a potentially simple and less expensive solution before I spend a ton on orthodontics. The custom mouth guard (which was affordable for us) has helped a lot, relieving my jaw pain from clenching at night and I wear it during the day while working to prevent my jaw from locking. During my last cleaning, the staff specifically offered me a fluoride treatment and assured me it was fully covered by my insurance. Relying on that information, I agreed to the procedure. About a month later, I received a bill claiming the fluoride treatment was not covered and that I owed the full amount. When I contacted my insurance company directly, they confirmed the treatment was fully covered with no balance due. It took multiple phone calls and persistent follow-ups with the dental office to get them to correct the fraudulent charge. The office had clearly misrepresented the insurance coverage at the time of service in an apparent attempt to overbill me. This experience revealed serious issues with their honesty and billing practices. As a result, I immediately cancelled my next appointment and will never return to this practice. I strongly advise others to be extremely cautious. Always verify insurance coverage independently and double-check everything with your insurance provider before agreeing to any additional treatments here.

My new dentist recommended Dr. Gray to start the correction process. When I got my nerves up I made the appt and went for consulting. My very first visit to Chesapeake Dental Specialist, I felt I was in good hands. Dr. Gray is super knowledgeable in dentistry, comfortable with his skills and confident in his work. I knew he would take good care of my Colgate smile. He answered my battery of questions with a smile and ask if I had any more! His warming and welcoming staff are friendly. Kim at the front desk is just a lovely lady who welcomes you with a bright hello. I'm sure there is a smile under that mask. Takes your temp and ask the Covid precautions questions that we are all so use to now. My short wait wasn't even enough time to check email or Pinterest pages. I really appreciate the short wait time as my time is valuable as well. The decor of the office is bright clean, clean and nicely decorated. Very stylish like a picture in DECOR magazine. Plants dot throughout. I noticed a air purifier in the bright clean waiting room. So my tooth extractions were scheduled according to my schedule. I was given a order for propalatic meds to help keep infection away. The orders were ordered electronically send to the pharmacy. The dental assistant advised me how and when to use them. I needed a driver to accompany my home since I was receiving anesthesia. The office sent me reminder text prior to my visit. Very very helpful since the healing time was 3 months apart. My procedure started by making sure I was comfortable. Rinse swish first, Dr Gray explained the procedure again. My vitals were monitored, anesthesia administered. I awoke in no pain. I was walked out with assistance to my hubby waiting in the spacious waiting room. I was so pleased and wished I had not waited so long. 2 teeth extractions, virtually no pain. I waited some time took 2 Ibruprophen after a few hrs at home. The office sent me home with a bag of supplies, gauze, tea bags, cold compress and post on instructions. Nice touch. My procedure today was a continuation of the above procedure. Jackie,Dr Gray 's assistant was friendly and caring. She took time to make sure I was comfortable and calm. No anesthesia today but still monitored my vitals. Dr. Gray is a caring man who educates his staff as my procedure proceeded. I have worked in Healthcare for 30 years now, various states, various positions. I've heard a multitude of doctors speak to staff and some patients with condescension attitude. Dr Gray is NOT of that element. His respectful demeanor earns my seal of approval. I have a few more visits that I can look forward to now. I'm in good hands and although Dental surgery can make anyone cringe, make excuses and even lie to your self...I can recommend Dr. Gray at Chesapeake Dental Specialist with highest regards. I am going through alot in my personal life & this visit had me more anxious than when I found out my complete 3rd degree heartblock, my incarcerated hernia or even my right lung PE. I was so nervous that it made me physically ill. I am not a worrier, except for today. I asked Dr Gray how he was feeling and told him that I said a prayer for him and his crew.
