After X-rays, I was told they couldn't actually treat the problem and that I would need to see their specialist -- with an appointment scheduled a MONTH later. A month. For a cracked wisdom tooth causing significant pain. But somehow, despite being unable to address the urgent issue I came in for, there was still time to discuss teeth whitening treatments and tell me I supposedly had multiple cavities that would require extensive work. I left, found another dentist the very next day, had the wisdom tooth removed immediately, and was told there were no cavities or other issues. I understand referrals happen. Specialists exist for a reason. What I do not understand is bringing in a patient in acute pain, failing to meaningfully help them, then pivoting to cosmetic upsells and questionable diagnoses while they're sitting there suffering. If your office cannot provide emergency treatment, be honest about that upfront. Don't tell people in pain you can help, only to turn the visit into a sales opportunity. I put off going to the dentist for years because I've been terrified, traumatized, and at this point, embarrassed about the state of my teeth because it's been so long. Dr. Kent and his staff completely changed my outlook. From the very first interaction over the phone until the completion of my procedure, every person I encountered was kind, friendly, helpful, reassuring and understanding. I have no insurance and they were upfront and accurate about pricing- no surprises. When I was crying before I even had an x-ray, the assistant took the time to literally wipe away my tears and comfort me. Dr. Kent was very kind, gentle, and professional. He took time to make sure all of my questions were answered before my procedure (a filling). He managed to give me my numbing shots with the most minimal discomfort- a definite first in my experience. He even made my driver a goody bag when she had to wait a bit longer because my appointment ran a few minutes late. I am no longer scared of the dentist! If a medical office have this kind of rules I think that they should notify you when you make the appointment. I spoke to this location twice and was never told that they had to verify my insurance more than 24hrs. before the appointment each time I told them I would call them back when I could talk, I think a day before is adequate amount of time to verify insurance if not they may need to check their practices. So when they said it was covered, I believed them. IT WAS EVEN SIGNED! Then I got a bill for over $2,000. "Oh, we don't accept Medicaid, just your Medicare." "Yes, your insurance DOES pay for what we did, but we don't accept it, sorry about that!" They said they ran it. They said Aetna said it was a covered service. I disputed the bill with Aetna- yup, I'm on the hook for it, even though Aetna sent me a letter of denial and assured me I would not be billed. Do not trust these people!! I asked PLENTY of questions and was met with assurances all around. I'm on disability and now I have to pay them over $2,000 when I could have just gone somewhere else that really did accept my insurance. This should be illegal.
