This is the kind of place you go to once a year for a colonoscopy. If you've got issues with Gut health, this is not the place that you want to make multiple visits to throughout the year. Getting a prescription prior authorization approved is literal hell. We've been waiting for over five weeks for my husband's prescription to go through a prior authorization that the insurance already claimed they would approve. I've made multiple calls and even gotten irate on the phone showing them how very upset they are making me. To no avail they still are lazy and incompetent. We will be asking for a refund from the last visit, my husband made since they refused to fulfill their duties and push this prescription through to have a prior authorization and be approved. I am also going to file a grievance with the state board because any doctor that allows his office to be ran. This way is not a doctor that cares about your health. He made the comment to someone who gave a bad review of the place that the office office staff isn't the best. My husband came into your office after about 6 weeks of severe abdominal pain. We took the time to write out a timeline of his symptoms, and anything that made it better or worse. We chose to see this office because the website talks about a holistic approach. The doctor talked to my husband for about 90 seconds, said he didn't need to see any of the timeline we wrote, and didn't ask any questions. He prescribed medication and said the office would follow up to schedule an endoscopy and colonoscopy. It's been 4 months and we just received the call- and it wasn't even to schedule the scopes- it was to get us the bill. We were never followed up with and in the meantime he just fished 6 rounds of the chemo. His lymphoma was affecting and surrounding his GI tract, causing all of his symptoms. It was only a few weeks before we went to the ER, but a few weeks would have made a huge difference during that critical time. We also don't expect that this would have been found during his appointment, but we would have hoped that this holistic approach would have at minimum consisted of listening or asking a single question OR follow up to schedule said scopes, after handing him a prescription and not following up for 4 months. Rude front desk - girl argued with me on call - asked for an email reminder and magically their email system doesnt work (or just lazy and incompetent) - she promised she'd do it the following morning - guess what - nothing! 2. So I had a referral with them from my doctor and because I live in a small town I have to either go out of state for a specialist or back home 4 hours away for a specialist. So my doctor sent me to them, I know I tried more than 3 times with leaving a message with their referral department lady; to my surprise I am left without a phone call after recently calling again and reaching their receptionist (come to find out she's a PA not a receptionist) who said I would get a call back after I emailed my referral information to the work email she had given me over the phone. I am very disappointed and can't understand why I had to try so many times to get help that my doctor sent me for, to be ignored and given a half-assed answer of "I'm so sorry, let connect you with them and you can leave them a message and I promise they will get back to you at some point in the next 24-48 hours." read more

It took a week for my experience to finally sink in and I'm now even sure that my experience was a horrible one. Philip, the nurse practitioner, only looked at me in the eye once when he shook my hand hello. Other than that, he was staring on his paper and slouched on the chair like all the way down which I think was very unprofessional. He asked me basic questions and quickly ordered me a GI endoscopy without further explanations. I left there feeling insecure and even more lost. I called to get a refill on a prescription that I use for my IBS. This is a powder that I use as needed so I've had plenty. I called and requested a refill to be sent to my pharmacy. I was told my my doctor (Emily Himebaugh) medical assistant Dawn that it's the law that I go and have another appointment for this refill. I was last in the office within the year and there have been no changes medically. I am being denied my prescription because it's "against the law" for them to call in another prescription without me being seen again. Dr. Karnam is great but with others like this makes me want to never go back. When asked for Dr. Karnam I was told he is on vacation until some time next week and getting in to see him would be quite a while. read more

I have been in the hands of Dr. Karnam for 12 years, ever since I first started having GI issues. He saved my life by determining the root cause of my initial bile duct obstruction and rushing me into surgery, instead of sending me home with pain meds like the previous ER/GI doctors. All of my GI issues (and my families) have always been promptly and expertly diagnosed and succesfully handled by Dr. Karnam. I have unfortunately found myself in the hands of other doctors/hospitals (rushed to the nearest ER) plenty of times, none of them come close to Dr. Karnam. I contacted for a colonoscopy with them late December. The appointment was scheduled for three months later in March. They sent me a scheduling packet and prep prescription. Time passes and the appointment date approaches. Day prior and still no contact for hospital scheduling. On further inquiry, they don't even have me scheduled, and can't fit me in again until July. I had already arranged work, a ride, my ride's work, and child-care. Their office screwed up, and their only consolation is to offer a waiting list. read more

I was diagnosed with Celiac disease by my doctor and my wife scheduled me. I read a few not-so-positive reviews and was very much not excited for this appointment. I can say that I was genuinely VERY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED in every way. The staff was all very friendly, polite, and quick. The facilities were new and looked fantastic. Dr. Karnam was fantastic. Very quick (which was what I needed), but insistent that I check into a few things with the new diagnosis. What stood out to me was when my wife started asking questions about my 7 year old boy (whose blood work had come back the previous day) and the strong possibility that he too is Celiac. Dr. Karnam got on his phone, gave my wife his cell number, and said that he'd be getting in touch with a friend of his to see what he could do. Long story short. He followed through with his associate and we're being seen much sooner than had we not received a strong referral from Dr. Karnam. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Gut Whisperer! I'm in and out very quick and dr karma is funny and remembers who you are and spends time talking to you. This is important. Trust the bad reviews. I have had a terrible experience with this place. My OBGYN recommended them after having issues after childbirth. I couldn't get in to see the doctor so I had an appointment with Philip Bowman. I explained my issues and was shocked at how quick he was to prescribe me a colonoscopy and endoscopy. He literally said "do you get acid reflux or heartburn?" And I said "sometimes but mainly only in pregnancy" and he just tacked on an endoscopy like it was nothing. He also prescribed me a medication and sent me on my way. After the prescription was sent in the pharmacist called me and said he would fill the medicine because it was 10x higher than the typical dosage and could severely lower my blood pressure. He said that when he talked to the medical assistant they told him to still fill it! I said absolutely not and finally he got Bowman to agree to the lower dose. After this happening my trust in this place is totally gone. I have now called 4 times to try and get an email confirmation that I cancelled my colonoscopy so that I have proof if I get any charges. Each time they say they will send it and nothing comes through. So incredibly sketchy. This place wants your money and that's it. Beware! read more

I didn't meet my doctor till the day of my procedure and the results were not explained very well. I only saw the doctor for 2 minutes after the procedure while the drugs were wearing off and he spoke so fast that I didn't understand what he had said till maybe 10 minutes after he left. I have received bill after bill of just a little bit more money for "reasons" and each time I realize that I am at their mercy for what ever they want to charge. It has been six months since this "simple" procedure and I am still receiving random bills for amounts that were not covered. I wont go back to this place if for nothing more than the horrible bedside manner but I have no idea when I will be done paying for this. read more

I'm so frustrated that I didn't read these reviews before sending my friend to this office. She had Dr. Karnam. We had to book 6 weeks out for the appointment and my friend was in constant stomach pains. She was really looking forward to this appointment and finding out some answers to why she was in so much pain. At the appointment, Dr. Karnman barely gave her 15 minutes nor any eye contact. He said she needed a colonoscopy, which she had done twice before by two other doctors and made no mention as to what he could find vs the two doctors before her. After her brief appointment he told her the office would follow up with instructions on moving forward with a colonoscopy. it's been 3 weeks now and THEY HAVE YET TO CALL HER! Not only does the Dr. have no bedside manner and is seemingly incompetent, but the office doesn't have the ability to follow up with her appointment. Dr Karnam was pleasant enough but I felt he didn't give me enough time deferring to his PA. Both were friendly but prescribed medications that I could not afford nor would my insurance cover. The main reason I am writing this review is to complain about their billing department. Three months ago was my last visit and today, out of the blue, I got a telephone call from a rude woman who stated that if I didn't pay my last co-pay she would send me to collection. I have never received a bill or notice from them. I was told that they had sent out three bills to my address. I check my mail daily and would have seen them if they were delivered. I do not have any debt and pay all bills due before the end of the month to avoid interest fees and the like. There must be a problem in that department. read more

I visited with a Nurse Jordan at the Pioneer Valley Hospital location that the Gut Whisperer and his associates operate out of, and I had a wonderful consultation with him. However, I was ordered to receive a CT scan regarding my symptoms and I never received a follow up call from anyone associated with the Gut Whisperer nor the Murray hospital that performed the scan. Surely I'm not intended to pay several hundred dollars on a co-pay for a CT scan and not hear anything back regarding the results? I attempted to reach out to their office several times over the phone and was passed back and forth between them and other third party reps to no avail. A couple of months later I finally decided to return to their office in person, and when I did I had the absolute worst encounter of my life in regards to healthcare service with a terribly grouchy and condescending elderly woman working the front desk who misunderstood what I was saying several times and then became increasingly irritated as we continued speaking. It was 8:00 in the morning on a Monday and I got the feeling she loathed the fact she had to be in that office trying to assist a concerned patient. She explained that "It wasn't her job to give me any information on results" and contacted other personnel over the phone to assist me. That's about the only good thing she did for me in the 10 unfortunate minutes I spoke to her. All in all the physician/nurse gave me good information regarding my condition but these people seem to lack proactivity in reaching out to their patients after the fact. read more

Appt. with Emily Himebaugh to go over my biopsy. Not only had I had to wait more than 20 min. over for my appt. to get in, an don't know how long I waited in the rm. When she came in and asked me what I was in there for I told her she needed to go over my biopsy. She said she did not have that info. And said I needed a cscan and thought it was my pancreas. She had plenty of time to get/have this info. She gave me a prescription to go get filled and an it was $259.69 for one month. Total Joke. Would not do business with them. read more

I was scheduled to have a scope, but had some questions regarding why it wasn't checking further in my gut, as well as getting more information for the CPT code to check for insurance coverage. I also wanted information regarding my blood work results. I called 4 times and left messages and never once got a call back. I am also a doctor and know that things can get dropped and missed, but none of my messages were ever returned. I finally spoke to a receptionist (I had been leaving messages with the MAs), who allowed me to speak to an actual person. They still didn't have my blood work back (2 weeks in), didn't know where my blood had been drawn (their actual office) or any other information about me. I was told they had called the wrong patient back (I have a common name- I get that, which is why I left my phone # and DOB on my messages). I cancelled my procedural scope simply because I cannot get any information from this office! They seemed decent during my appointment, but there was zero patient care once I left. And yes, I'm still waiting to see if they get my blood work back (and they 'promised' to call), but now I'm concerned they might not be my results if they mixed me up with another patient. It's a requirement to check and log 3 patient identifiers, and this office didn't do that. Wouldn't recommend it and am looking elsewhere. read more

My visit was with Emily Himebaugh beginning of August 2016. She was very professional and the appointment went well. My issue is with their billing. Billing for this business 'Gut Whisperer' is horrible. Called in September to notify that I had not received a bill was told one was just being sent out - over a month from the visit. Please note, my insurance company had already sent me a break down of what they covered over a week prior to me calling. Called end of Sept, still no bill, and was told it was sent. Their office called me early October to verify my address because, the bill was returned to them. They had an extra 0 in my address on file. Was told bill was being sent back out with correct address. Called middle of October, no bill received, told a second bill would be sent out. Beginning of November called their office to notify no bill has been received. This point, it has been 90 days since the appointment with no bill received. Was told by billing they don't know whats happening to my mail, but I could pay over the phone or in their office. I kept track of all the dates I called to notify of no bill received to make sure they can't charge a late fee. My advice is to try and go to a different specialist and avoid this billing nightmare. read more
