This place was right next to our hotel and craving some Indian food so we went in to try. They are very friendly. The decor is very nice and authentic. Started with the goa shrimp which was delightfully spicy and flavorful. The shrimps were cooked to perfection. Then went to the bhindi which was ok. Then went to the biryani which had a nice taste and flavor to it, very authentic. Large portion. Then ended with the chicken which was again very tasty. Good place. Surprised at the 3.5 stars. When I walked by Guru, I was immediately drawn to the promise of Scandi-Indian fusion cuisine whatever that would be. My friend and I walked into the fine dining side of Guru and were astounded at the curries all in the ~20 USD range which was definitely a lot more than what we were looking to pay for what looked like just normal Indian food. We walked outside and kept walking and saw the Guru To Go which had cheaper meals overall so we ducked into it and ordered food there. The food wasn't that much cheaper but it was cheap enough to warrant an afternoon snack. I got the paneer chaat and a big bottle of mango lassi. The chaat was pretty pricey for the quantity of food, and it wasn't really all that worth it. I liked the different style of chaat which resembled a cold paneer salad, but for the price I don't know if it is that worth it. The mango lassi was amazing and probably the only affordable thing on the menu. I might come back just to get mango lassi to go but otherwise worth a pass unless you want overpriced Indian food. read more

This place caught our eye as we were strolling down Vesterport. Kids are nuts for Butter chicken so since this place was close to our hotel, we called for it. No delivery available. We had to walk over to pick up but our order was taken over the phone. We paid for the food on pickup. They keep some papad and chutneys near the pickup counter. The green chutney is super spicy - very nice. As for the food, it was flavorful. Kids loved it. We also had some "aubergine mash" (baingan bhartha) which we had asked to make spicy. Awful. The food was passable, the service was awful and prices outrageous. I went with 5 coworkers. We arrived at 6:30, ordered around 6:45 and didn't get our food until 8:15. So between the time we sat down and the time we got our food, we waited for almost two hours. We each ordered a single dish so it wasn't like we had a hugely complicated order. Fantastic Indian restaurant in the center of Copenhagen. I went here with some friends who were visiting me from the UK, and they wanted 'traditional British food'. The service was prompt, even though the restaurant was full. The food was excellent and they managed to change my Chicken Tikka order to suit my delicate Nordic digestive system (extra mild). I don't speak or read Danish so I have no idea why the other reviews for Guru are so low! The food is amazing - but it is incredibly spendy. My omnivorous sweetheart and I got takeout here (vegetarian items only) twice and we were floored each time by the food. The establishment itself is sparse and modern in an attractive way, the dishes are beautifully prepared and spiced and were not overly oily a single time. So tasty. It's been almost two years since we were here so I don't remember what we had exactly, but I recommend it to everyone I know visiting København - and warn them about the price! I can't remember the exchange exactly but I do know I was surprised. Somehow we can't manage to get takeout that tastes this good in the Bay Area, even if we can get it cheaper. read more

Not sure how to explain how awful this place is. DO NOT waste your money. BAD SERVICE- when I say BAD, it is bad. The short, Indian guy at the front desk stared at us when we entered as to why we were there. No smile, no greetings. My friend and I went to Guru for dinner on Monday night - it looked busy for a weekday and we expected good things especially after seeing the fabulous decor and wood (brass?) panels on the walls. The lights that hung from the ceiling, however, were really annoying as I could barely see my friend across the table unless I hunched my shoulders. The first red flag was that when we asked for tea and a mango lassi, the waiter didn't even bother asking if we wanted a pot of tea and if we wanted a small or large glass of lassi. We only realized pots were more economical after we saw other customers using it. And the portion of lassi and indeed even the main dishes were far too small when compared to other Indian places. Then, after waiting for a while for each course, we got curious and timed the wait between finishing dessert and being asked if we wanted something else or even offering to bring the bill over. It was funny for a bit but when we reached the 1 hour mark, we were obviously annoyed. We had stopped chatting, started making eye contact with the waiter and trying to get them to come over. But it was as if we were completely invisible compared to the large groups that had arrived. After waiting for about an hour and 10 minutes, we decided we'd had enough and walked to the front. A waiter came around almost 10 minutes AFTER this to give us our bill and didn't apologize or even say 'hello' or 'goodbye'. The quality of the food and the decor were thankfully Guru's saving grace. If you actually want good service and a pleasant meal, I would recommend avoiding this place like the plague. I understand taking time to prepare food well, but I don't enjoy being ignored when all I wanted was to get my bill. read more

In short. Lived in New York City and Bombay and know Indian food. This place has horrible service and the food is mediocre at best. Don't go. Not sure if it's because they don't get tips but the service is horrible. Came in at 10PM got seated then was asked to move to another seat because the one they originally sat us at had a reservation. Note restaurant is at 30% occupancy. Sat and ordered food with a woman who looks unhappy that she's breathing. Note no one ever sat at our original table. Food arrives at table 10:20 waitress comes over and at 10:30 asks that we pay. Comes over three more times with questions and finally brings the payment terminal. Gets better... at 10:40 they hover over us and put our replacement settings down waiting for us to leave. 10:45 bartender starts making loud noise cleaning his glasses. At 10:50 waiter starts making loud noises moving chairs and tables even though there are still three separate parties finishing dinner. I was shocked to learn I have lived here for almost 4 years and I had never even thought of this place. My girlfriend and I love trying Indian restaurants. This place is very cozy in the middle of the city and full of Danish people, (I assumed there would be more tourists due to the location.) I really liked the flatware and atmosphere. It is a very inviting space with a great a la carte menu plus different tasting menus. I tried the Spicy Mango Chicken which had amazing flavor and my friend had the Spinach lamb which was a good contrast. What can you expect from an Indian cuisine in Scandinavia? My experience holds a wide range from very good to lousy. So I keep my common sense alive when I enter Guru Copenhagen. Yes, while entering, I´m met with interest, hospitality and a certain professionalism. After five minutes by the bar I´m given a table and after five more I have given my order. After that my dinner is served with kindness and efficiency. Most of it has a good mix of spice and taste. The tiger prawn is excellent. But no doubt the kitchen is working with quantity first, as there are many tables and many guests. A lack of quality is noted about the chicken tikka marsala and the way it has been prepared. The chicken meat is not of enough quality and this ought to be better in a place like Guru in 2016. On my way out I´m met by the owner and we had a nice little conversation about the history of the restaurant. Absolutely a quality not to be forgotten when you summon up the visit on your way home in rain, darkness and coldness. The over all experience must be said to have been to a certain satisfaction. read more

The decor is very appealing and service efficient, though our waiter kept asking us if we wanted more than we ordered. This was by far the best Indian food I've had across the US and Europe (sadly I've not been to India). I had the Eggplant Bartha and it was different than I've ever had. The spices came together so well with a whopping amount of fresh ginger that I loved. The naan was nicely dense but airy. I also had the grilled prawns and the spice was lovely.
