Everything is prepared with care, and you can taste the authenticity in every bite. Ambiance is nice. Good lighting, classy looking tables, some nice, chill Indian music playing softly in the background. Good stuff. Service was good. Our server was very friendly and did his best to answer our questions. We needed some allergy friendly food, and there were a few questions where he just didn't know and made a best guest. That's fair, I guess, but that just needs to be better. Food came out timely and nice and hot, the tandoori chicken sizzling up a storm. Now for the food. I started off by getting a Vegetarian Special Appetizer (A combination platter with samosa, aloo tikki, onion bhajiya, mixed pakoras and chili pakoras) for the table. These are always fun, because you don't always know what you're eating. Samosas are always wonderful, and the onion bhajiya is like a better latke. Get this if you like to sample things. Then I had a Lamb Biryani (Lamb and basmati rice cooked with saffron and spices, garnished with cilantro, nuts and raisins). If you're a biryani fan, I'd probably pass on this one. Not a great example of biryani. Very little saffron and other garnishes. There are other great things on this menu. Of course, I had to get some Garlic Naan (Light bread made with fresh garlic, herbs and cilantro). A+ delicious. Light, rippable, soft, garlicky, good for grabbing food like you don't have silverware and adding flavor and texture to every bite. The Chicken Tandoori (Chicken marinated overnight in yogurt with fresh Indian spices and grilled in a clay oven) came out last and on its own, sizzling like the center of attention like a steak fajita. Chicken was well-cooked and very tender. Lots of good flavor, but maybe a little too salty. Overall, this was a very good introduction to Indian food for a few of my co-workers. I'm glad we came. It was a nice visit.

The ambiance is nice with music playing, but it's quiet enough to enjoy your meal or conversation. The only critique I have is that I felt looked down upon for eating solo. I was ignored for the first five minutes, then given an incredulous look when I ordered so much food. (Hello leftovers for two more meals!) And I was questioned by staff twice if the spice level was okay, which I felt came with a judgmental tone since I requested medium, not the owner-recommended mild. The owner also tried to take back some of my to-go containers while I was still boxing up, which was awkward, then asked me to leave a review... I'd come back for the food, but probably just to-go because the service wasn't with a smile.

Inside, the place is really nice, almost formal. Dark dining room with nice tables and booths. Cool artwork and lamps. Service was very interesting. Our host, maybe owner(?) was super chatty. I prefer service to be get and get out promptly but she was recommending items, asking questions, and determining herself what we really wanted. Hey, maybe some people really like that to get a great experience. I found it a bit much but she was super nice. We got the veggies platter appetizer which was fantastic. The server really pushed the lamb samosas which were fine but I should have passed. And for entrees we got butter chicken, tikka masala veggies, and shrimp korma with garlic naan and a fantastic plate of basmati rice. The meal was great! The sauces/gravies were so delicious. And honestly, some of the best basmati around. Come for the food! Definitely recommend this place. And for Amex users, a great credit as well. Definitely worth it.

This place came highly recommended, so we decided to stop for lunch around 1230 pm on a weekday. They were empty. We were greeted by a very friendly man with a mustache who seated us quickly and brought cold water to our table. They had the buffet which my daughter ordered. I opted to order off of the menu and got medium spice chicken vindaloo and garlic naan. The buffet had a variety of chicken, lamb, and lentil dishes. Her chicken dishes looked fantastic-fresh, white meant chicken chunks. Her lentil and potatoes looked dry but her only complaint was that they were bland for her taste. In fairness, she likes spicy dishes. I am very picky about my protein so take my next sentence with that in mind, if you are also picky: My chicken vindaloo was all potatoes with 3-4 pieces of dark meat chicken held together by fat and gristle. The chicken was inedible. The sauce was too thick-I have eaten vindaloo many many places and never had it look like this in my life. It was clumpy. The basmati rice it came with was fine. The garlic naan I ordered and the butter naan (came with the buffet) were both so soaked in butter that the naan was immediately soggy and not at all good. I think that the key to this place is to order off the buffet during lunch. Indeed, the man who seated us appeared to "highly suggest" the buffet and seemed nonplussed when I requested the menu. We were so disappointed in this place and will not return.

We chose Tabla Indian Restaurant in Winter Park. In order to find it you walk through a beautiful hallway lined with small shops, pass little ponds filled with large goldfish, and you truly can't miss the iconic big tree at the entrance--it's absolutely stunning. At the end of it all, you'll find the restaurant. Such a charming and memorable arrival. I arrived right as they opened and was the first guest in. Jose welcomed me with the warmest energy and invited me to sit anywhere I liked. When I hesitated, he kindly guided me to his favorite table--which immediately made me feel taken care of. I explained upfront that I cannot eat anything spicy. Without hesitation, he checked with his manager, who came over personally, introduced himself, and took the time to walk me through options. I truly appreciated how seriously they took my concern. He explained that because they often have guests like me, they've expanded their menu to include Chinese and Thai dishes as well--such a thoughtful touch. We ordered crispy garlic naan with raita, chicken tikka masala, and lamb korma. Jose even joked that if it didn't meet my expectations, the mango lassis would be on the house--which instantly made me smile. When the food arrived, I'll admit--I was hesitant... but hopeful. And then -- WOW. It was PERFECT. Truly. If I could've done cartwheels, I would have. I'm still so happy. It meant so much to me that they cared enough to make the experience right. That kind of effort speaks volumes. The chef even came out to check on me, and I had to give him a hug. Everything was just right. The naan perfectly crisp, the raita rich and creamy (not runny at all), and the lamb incredibly tender and full of flavor without any heat. For dessert, I noticed they offered gajar halwa (a carrot pudding you don't always find), and the chef made a special version with rice pudding; it was absolutely delicious. They also have an extensive wine list, and the restaurant itself is aesthetically beautiful, with a quaint outdoor seating area that adds to the charm. I truly cannot wait to go back. Every single person was so kind, and it made all the difference. When a restaurant goes above and beyond like this ... it stays with you.
