Our server was very friendly and did his best to answer our questions. We needed some allergy friendly food, and there were a few questions where he just didn't know and made a best guest. That's fair, I guess, but that just needs to be better. Food came out timely and nice and hot, the tandoori chicken sizzling up a storm. Now for the food. I started off by getting a Vegetarian Special Appetizer (A combination platter with samosa, aloo tikki, onion bhajiya, mixed pakoras and chili pakoras) for the table. These are always fun, because you don't always know what you're eating. Samosas are always wonderful, and the onion bhajiya is like a better latke. Get this if you like to sample things. Then I had a Lamb Biryani (Lamb and basmati rice cooked with saffron and spices, garnished with cilantro, nuts and raisins). If you're a biryani fan, I'd probably pass on this one. Not a great example of biryani. Very little saffron and other garnishes. There are other great things on this menu. Of course, I had to get some Garlic Naan (Light bread made with fresh garlic, herbs and cilantro). A+ delicious. Light, rippable, soft, garlicky, good for grabbing food like you don't have silverware and adding flavor and texture to every bite. The Chicken Tandoori (Chicken marinated overnight in yogurt with fresh Indian spices and grilled in a clay oven) came out last and on its own, sizzling like the center of attention like a steak fajita. Chicken was well-cooked and very tender. Lots of good flavor, but maybe a little too salty. Overall, this was a very good introduction to Indian food for a few of my co-workers. I'm glad we came. The waiter gave me a strange judgemental look. I kindly explained I am on a diet and don't want the extra carbs. I bashfully explained to him that I am on a diet and he looked at me weird again. I didn't want to make a big deal about it so I just took the rice and ate some of it. The interaction left me feeling uneasy. I never asked him to reduce the price in exchange for excluding the rice. I did ask him for extra bell peppers, which they didn't do either. I am insulted that gave me strange looks when he took my order and when he served me the food. He assumed that the reason I didn't want the rice was because I couldn't afford it or was being frugal. I have never had this problem when I have eaten at Mexican, Thai, Chinese, or any other restaurants. It's very simple, I don't want the rice, so don't serve me the rice. If I was a vegetarian and asked for no meat in a dish, would they still serve it to me? Or what if I had a food allergy and asked for something to not be in my food, would they still serve it to me? I am a customer who placed a very specific and easy to adjust order. Technically, it would have been more profit for the restaurant. I didn't ask him to change the tikka masala recipe or to charge me less money. I was fine with paying full price and would have paid extra for the extra peppers. Rather than insult me, he should have just served me what I asked for. The chicken tikka masala was bland, not that spicy for medium, and was very sweet.
