A New Yorker in California, aged 37 with no license. He has lots of easy tips and tricks that make the rules of the road (and of driving safely) easy to remember. Sometimes I still say them to myself while driving on my own. I am a nervous test taker and a few days before my DMV test, for my last lesson, we drove around the Goleta test site. This was AMAZING. We went through the route and during the test it was exactly as we had practiced. I already knew which way to turn and at times wanted to put the blinker on before I was given directions by the examiner. Steve went through details like which parking spot to choose before the text begins and why. I passed on my first try :) All in all, an A+ experience for Steve and his lovely wife who helped schedule the driving classes. Highly recommend.

Yes, it is pricier than learning from your parents but in certain situations you may need to resort to a driving school. Being in the SB area, this price is competitive considering the amount of training you get. Unlike a certain driving school I had a negative experience with, this place actually gets you driving behind the wheel for nearly entire allotted time. For some perspective, as soon as I got in the car after some brief formalities (less than 2 minutes), the instructor asked me to start the car and drive. There was no fooling around here. You get what you pay for. We practiced lane changes, freeway driving, and extensive driving techniques in preparation for the driving exam. I recommend this driving school if you absolutely have to use driving schools to prepare you to take the test.
