My daughter is of the age that she needs practical driving classes to get her license. This school was recommended by her friends. And from what my daughter told me about her experience ...we highly recommend this school as well. My daughter said, the instructor was calm and patient and also proved all the facts necessary to practice and pass the DVM practical driving test. The entire program is 6 hrs and each driving session (using their car) is 2hrs...we have 4 hrs left. Our daughter just had her first session with Delores and it was perfect!! Tip for parents do prep work before your child's first session, get them acclimated with the interior of a vehicle and do some practice in parking lots. The changes in the rules to the permit process may be confusing and having to do a single 2 hr session prior to making the permit legal can leave parents complacent. Get them use to the car first so they can actually hit the road on the first session and not just stay in the parking lots. Extremely responsive, attentive, and engaged with their students and the parents! Affordable as well! Reached out to them after being highly recommended within our community and requested Dolores Dyer. We were able to get her for the 1st lesson and at the time I was deployed. I'm assuming my brother told her and she FaceTimed me to let me know how it did and I was super appreciative because she didn't have to! Lessons 2/3 were with Eddy/Mike and they were nice as well. Great experience with customer service, scheduling, and instructors! After a bad experience with another school we used for our older child, we were so happy to find Top Notch Driving School! Driving instructors came to the door, introduced themselves, and let us know what they would go over and asked if there were any questions or concerns we had. After the lesson instructors came to the door and gave us a full report of what they did, including a paper report with suggestions of what our child should work on, and when they suggest we schedule the next lesson. I signed up my daughter after seeing all of the good reviews. I completely recommend Top Notch. Easy scheduling, excellent communication, and all of the instructors were wonderful. For her last lesson her instructor took her to the Santa Paula DMV and drove her around her course. All of her lessons reviewed a ton of very good information. Traumatizing: avoid Dolores. I've been holding this back for awhile but I believe it's important to share for the safety of minors. The beginning half of my lesson was going quite well but towards the end I noticed some things that weren't working for me and I tried to communicate that. I have a learning disability and when I tried to further explain that to Dolores she got very passive aggressive and hostile. Completely unprofessional, and inconsiderate. I was explaining to her that it's hard for me to focus on the road while she's trying to show me detailed visuals of different scenarios at the same time, she took that in a very passive way and remarked "fine I just won't talk at all". Another concern I had was if she's controlling the brake and gas on her side without telling me how will I know if what I'm doing is correct or not if she's also controlling it without me knowing. I then explained to her my concerns and confusion which she took offense too. Dolores then yells at me to pull over; stormed out of the car while insulting me. Again I have a learning disability and I was letting her know that I learn differently and these are some of the things that were confusing me. She completely had a full meltdown and it resulted in me crying. The way she was handling everything was quite disgusting and embarrassing. She made me feel awful for having a disability I was born with (dyslexia). In my defense, prior to knowing in advance or not this behavior is absolutely horrendous and should not be defended. After her passive aggressive meltdown she proceeded to drive me home while frantically repeating "I am patient, I am patient, I am patient, I am patient" like she was trying to convince herself of her wrong doings. Overall this was an awful experience and top notch did nothing but defend Dolores. I don't feel comfortable sharing the rest of what happened but when I got home she got out the car and was trying to get into my house. she was extremely hostile, unprofessional, and scary. Before you review back take a moment to reflect on the type of person you hired. Thing happened that day behind closed doors that tried to stay hidden. This is my story and this is the truth nothing is acceptable or justifiable for what happened. Take accountability. read more

Waste of time! When I scheduled my daughter I specifically asked if this indeed was hands on driving.....I was told yes. My daughter was shocked that her driving instructor picked her up drove to a parking lot where she proceeded to show her how the inside of her car worked, yes I understand that's part of what's on the DMV test and they need to go over the signals and what not but 1:45 mins of it is not what I paid for! She did not need to know how the radio worked as every radio in every car is different. She was allowed to drive 15 mins in the Sant Clara church parking lot which if your from Oxnard and catholic you know how tiny that parking lot is. Would not recommend EVER! Took my business elsewhere. read more

It was with trepidation that we entrusted our daughter to Evan from Top Notch, but frankly, he was amazing! She felt safe with him, which is important, and never was uncomfortable at all. That's HUGE for us moms of teen girls. He talked her through her fears, educated her, trained her, and turned her into a pretty good little driver! Evan was encouraging, but always emphasized the law and safety. He didn't pull any punches, but was very honest both with our daughter and us in terms of how well she was doing. We used top notch for my son's learners permit prep. He easily completed the online course and passed the DMV permit test after the course and several practice tests. Evan was an exceptional instructor! My son needed some extra help and confidence to get him ready for the DMV exam. Evan provided score sheets that covered all the major topics and driving situations that might be encountered on the driving test. There was lots of red ink after the first session, but it gave us clear instruction on the areas my son needed practice on. I know how to drive and only wanted touch ups before my driving test. The only reason I failed my previous driving test was because I did not know how how to change lanes properly so I wanted top notch to teach me. I scheduled at 2 hour appointment and told the instructor I only need to learn how to change lanes smoothly ; however, they started from the basics!!! Which I already knew 3 months ago . They wanted me to schedule 2 more classes to get to that part. So this is good if u want to start from 0 but not good if u want touch ups. I wish they would mention their policy when I was scheduling my appointment that they would start from the basics and it is 3 classes in when lane changing is taught. Other than that the instructor was nice and explained the basics very well read more

When i started to look up driving schools my trouble was finding a school that can fit me in before my driver's permit expired. I had taken my test before after going with a different driving school and hadn't passed. Unfortunately, when I started contacting school I only had about a month let. Fortunately, however, Therese from Top Notch was very helpful and spoke to me directly and scheduled me in. She even talked to me abbot where would be the best place to test and what times would be ideal. As for the actual lessons, they were an actual pleasure. Not only was Therese always calm she was also very friendly. But she didn't coddle you with niceties. If you made a mistake she calmly explained to you what happened or what could have happened as a result but never did she stress nor did she stress me out. She is direct but has no problem answering any questions and concerns. If you are every looking for an instructor, do consider Therese. She's the best instructor I've ever had (and I've had three others from my first driving school).Oh and BY-THE-WAY I passed with a score of 4! And with about a week with Therese! YAY! read more
