My husband and I had an awesome experience with Learn to Ride. They have a perfectly crafter curriculum, in my opinion, that goes through the fundamentals of motorcycle riding and captures the importance and responsibility to comes with operating bikes on the roads. We did the zoom class on Friday evening, and though sitting in a class is no one's idea of an ideal Friday night. Mark, our instructor was great at holding our attention, keeping the class interesting and moving at a good pace. We had our first range (aka riding) day on Saturday morning at 5:45am, as soon as the sun came up. Our class was 12 people and we got right into it. Jose joined us today along with Mark. They were both awesome instructors with great leadership voices and skills, and worked great together. They were encouraging and provided great feedback. They knew all the tips and tricks to help us learn proper technique. The pace was appropriate and our skills grew quickly. Most of us were on cruiser Kawasaki bikes, and a few people who had ridden before were out on sport bikes. Jose held our class Saturday afternoon and he was great at introducing us to the world of riding and really driving in the concepts that needed to be remembered. We all passed our written tests that afternoon. The next morning we had our last riding session and riding test. Again, all great content. And then we had a last one on one meeting to find out if we passed and any last advice from our instructors. It was such a pleasant experience. I recommend that everyone take this class even if you don't get a motorcycle because it helps you understand motorcyclist perspective and increases your consciousness as a driver on the road with motorcyclists. read more

I'm hesitant to leave a bad review for this place, since I had such high hopes. I'm returning to riding after a very long break, I was excited! I called to book the 1dpc with license option to get my dl389. I signed up for the April class, but it was pushed to May, ok..not riding dirty since I already have my permit in hand. Day of the class arrives and andnim nervous and excited. I sow up on time. We start some of the basic stuff my counter part that I recommended this place to was using a loaner bike, since he traveled quite a distance to take the same class. He couldn't get the loaner bike started. I had to get the instructors attention for him since it seemed no one was paying attention. First part went okay, next came the entrance exam, I was nervous! We had 3 chances to complete the lollipop, I tried on my bike and got inside my own head first time, no go, so I tried with the loaner bike, big mistake! Talk about a pile of hot garbage! I was trying to find the friction zone, it was all or nothing! Second time didn't go well either needless to say. Then, that was it, I got booted from the class. Legendary Larry and the other instructor came over and told me that I could no longer continue. I told them I get it, that I was just too nervous. Larry told me to call the office on Monday to see what they can do for me, I said ok awesome! Before I realized it everyone was gone. I thought, wait a minute yall said you have air here to put more in my tires since they ask you to let air out. So I had to ride home with under inflated tires, not very safe! I will say this, they have a no refund policy, but I assume since other people in the class rode in with their child without the proper license, policy's were somewhat flexible. I guess you have to be a former student for policy's to be bent for you. Anyway I called Monday and left a message, phone tag ensued, not all their fault, as I was at work. Some point Monday Arden left a message for me telling me that the only thing they could do for me was offer me the basic class for an additional $425 since they have a no refund policy. So policy flexibility stops at the almighty dollar, of course! If they would have offered to maybe charge the difference between the $350 I paid and the $ 425,no biggie. That would have been amazing considering I didn't get my 3 tries, and I was only there for an hour at best. Finally talked to a real person Friday morning, she told me the same thing, but if any exceptions she'd have to ask Larry. 4 days later and still no call back, so I know his answer . I don't think I can fully express how awesome my experience was with "Learn to Ride VC". They (the beginning class) literally taught me how. As well as provided me with some ideas, strategies and drills to continue to become a better rider. The teachers/coaches are experienced, knowledgeable and patient. I appreciated all of their (expert) input. One of personal insight; I wish they had a bullhorn....the training course is a huge parking lot and sometimes getting hand signals indicating "stop or don't do that" is better communicated vocally then with signals...I don't know perhaps that's just my preference as I don't mind being yelled at...and I only mean that I wish there was more volume...the teachers were always respectful and yet firm about where a student can improve. I'd recommend this class to anyone wanting to learn to ride a motorcycle...in fact I think it's a must...it gets you in the right mindset to be successful because there isn't a lot of room for error riding one. As a first time motorcycle driver, I was really nervous and pretty intimidated on coming to the course. Of course I have been around motorcycles and was a 100% experienced backseat rider (since my BF has 2 bikes) but I have never been solo on a motorcycle myself. The instructor, Mark (long dark hair..looks like the lead singer of journey) was super welcoming on the first day of class room. In the classroom, you answer questions as a group and watch numerous videos after you cover certain chapters of the handbook. The second half of the day is when your out in the range actually getting motorcycle lessons riding/driving on an actual bike. Our instructors, Mark, Dwane and Ace were super helpful on the range and provided great feedback to help us be successful and safe drivers out in the real world. Their critique really helped me for the skills test! I appreciated them for making me repeat certain exercises until I got it right because that helped me become more comfortable with repetition. Having always wanted to learn to ride a motorcycle, I'm glad I finally signed myself up for the course. This past weekend was spent entirely with the Learn To Ride VC crew and fellow newbie peers, some of which became friends. I left knowledgable and newly skilled in the safety basics of this new hobby I'm taking on... but don't worry I'll be practicing in vacant lots for a while before I brave the roads and traffic. This safety course is perfect for those with no experience, limited experience, backseat rider experience (me), and Vespa/scooter experience (me again). Don't worry if you're 16 with parents permission or 60+, this is geared to teach everyone. I took the 2 day option but there's also a 3 day, same amount of time and material covered just time split differently. LTR VC provides a motorcycle to train on, a full shield helmet, and gloves (if really needed but this selection poor). It is important to have jeans/pants, a long sleeved shirt/jacket, ankle or higher boots, riding gloves, and sunglasses for the course. Dress in layers as it could be chilly or blazing hot at the airport in the wide open field. The classroom section was taught by Mark, a knowledgable yet funny man who made the information stick. You review the safety handbook which they email you upon sign-up. I read mine before and found it helpful to just use the classroom as review/ask questions. The fun part is the actual riding, of course! In addition to Mark, each day he had another instructor with him (different person each day) to assist with skills. They ease you into riding so you don't even realize it but there you go. Great method for all, especially for anyone nervous. The last portion of the last day is the skills testing. Nerves were high but it went well. Lastly the course ended with a traffic simulation... which was a wonderful way to use all our new skills while interacting with each other (traffic). Not only do you learn valuable skills and knowledge, this course allows you to skip the DMV driving test. I'm happy to be a motorcycle endorsed rider thanks to LTR VC. read more

Just finished taking the three day. Overall, a good value for the money and I feel like I got a lot out of the class. The first night is all classroom and Jose was great. We went from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM. It was a full three and a half hours of information. The second day was riding and classroom with Jim and Pete. The class started at 6:30 AM sharp and it was close to freezing outside (39 degrees F). However, once you start riding, you kinda forget the cold because you are focused on riding. Lots of good advice and range time. In the classroom, you take a 50 question exam that you must pass with 40 correct. It was easy enough if you payed attention during the lectures. Because we took a shorter lunch, I think the class went to 3:30 PM instead of 4:30 PM. It too was a full eight hours of learning. The last day was all riding from 6:30 AM to about 11:30 AM. We rode the entire time excluding a couple of 10 minute breaks. On this day, you also take the riding evaluation. Jim and Elliot were excellent. You can get some points off so you don't have to be perfect to pass. If you were able to complete the riding exercises, you should pass the evaluation. Tons of information, riding time, instruction, and fun. Even if you have riding experience, this class is great and offers something for everybody. The instructors were top notch and did a thorough job. Admittedly, the hours were a bit rough, but if you tough it out it is well worth it. I took a 3-day (Friday Saturday Sunday) course with Bob as a complete beginner and learned how to ride a motorcycle during this 3-day period. Absolutely proud of acquiring this new skill and riding was more fun that I expected. Bob covered many things in the class, and his lectures were fun and informative at the same time. There is a written test as well as riding test that you take before you get your training completed in order to get the certificate. The test is not difficult but definitely recommend to take notes during the lectures in the class setting. Great experience overall and I'll be coming back for the intermediate course once I have my motorcycle. read more

I don't usually post negative reviews, but I was very disappointed at my experience with this company. After taking a course, I was eager to take another. They encouraged us to purchase the next course after completion of the first. I thought, why not? I would love to take a more advanced course after I get some more riding under my belt! Unfortunately with my work schedule, I was unable to coordinate a time to go back. I called and requested a refund of the $200 I paid for the next course, and was told that they were unable to refund me. I did not sign any paperwork stating that my money was non-refundable, and feel that this was very unprofessional. I tried to compromise and asked if it would be possible then for a friend or family member to use my credit. After some encouragement, the woman I spoke to did agree to this. But then when my brother called, she first acted as if she was unaware of the situation, and then he was told that he could not use the credit, because it had "been more that a year since I paid." (It had been 9 months, and a number of phone calls in between.) When I called to clarify, again I had a very negative interaction, and was left disappointed. I guess the moral of the story here is, make sure you get everything in writing, or be ready to ride. Otherwise you could lose a large chunk of change. read more

I found out that Learn to Ride VC offers CHP CMSP MTC (Motorcyclist Training Course) classes which can get you a skills test waiver (DL389) and they also offer the CHP CMSP Total Control IRC (Intermediate Riding Clinic) and Total Control ARC (Advanced Riding Clinics) The classroom is located in a small industrial park off of Surfside Drive's North/South segment at 276 S Surfside Drive, Port Hueneme, CA 93041. Make sure you GPS/map your way here using a pin or the venue instead of an address, or you may find yourself on the beach as some GPS suites have trouble mapping correctly to the classroom. The range is located inside Camarillo Airport and there is a security gate, so don't be late to get to the designated shuttle pickup point or else you WILL not be able to get in. They said to come with an open mind regardless of your level of training, accept your coaching, respect the learning of your fellow classmates and you will see improvements in your riding gauranteed... I did all 3 and saw definite improvements and more confidence in my riding. I will definitely be back here to take the TC ARC L2 (Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic Level 2) Motorcycle riding is about continuous lifelong learning. Each class is like a good book... Just like a good book you can read over and over again, the IRC & ARC next level courses can be taken over & over again and they are totally worth it for all the life saving skills and enhanced proficiency you walk away with. I took the beginners course here with a co worker to get us started on riding and learn a few riding basics. From the moment we walked in the door, the instructors were very friendly and welcoming. Awesome start to learning something we were completely unfamiliar with. We took the 2-day option where you start at 7am and end at 5:30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Classroom portion is obviously necessary but not super exciting. It is awesome to see the lessons they teach you in the classroom translate to the riding portion of the class. 5 hour riding portion of the class was incredibly fun and I felt supported and encouraged by the instructors at every step. They take a no man/woman left behind policy which makes it very friendly to beginners, even I you aren't as coordinated as the rest of the class. For those that are faster learners they kindly ask you from the start to be conscious of others and you can see that safety is key here. There was a student in our class who dumped her bike a couple times on the first day but ended strong by passing the riding assessment they had at the end of the second day. Highly recommend taking the classes here for your beginning MSC course and I know I'll definitely be back in the future for the intermediate and advanced courses. read more

This course met and exceeded my expectations. A male friend of mine suggested we take the course together since I keep saying I want to purchase a bike soon. I was a little cautious as a no experienced rider as well as a female. However, I jumped right in and immediately made 10 new friends. Day 1 of classroom until the last of the skills test on Day 2 was useful information. Our classroom instructor, Bob had a thorough knowledge of bikes and made the classroom interesting. On the range course he was joined by Jose, who was just as knowledgeable and engaged. The small class size (12) makes for quite a bit of one on one instruction if you have specific areas that need more attention. If you are a more experienced rider, you may have to wait sometimes, but it helps build character. :) Usually those who needed additional attention were pulled off to the side and the training addressed while we continued. It was warm on our days, so I suggest bringing a change of clothes to cool down if your classroom session is after the riding if you signed up for the one full day and 2 half days. No one wants to wear the boots ALL day long ( I used flip flops) There are helmets available if you need one and a variety of motorcycle choices. There are no surprises on the skills test. They will go over everything during the range course training. And by the end you are a top-notch 20 mph, no traffic rider. Before you look at the 4 Star rating and start considering going elsewhere -- my actual rating is 4.5, NOT 4. There are reasons why I am not able to give a full 5 star, most are outside their control. If we are to judge by what they have to work with, this would be a 5 ---- In all honesty, my first impression was horrible-- my first impressions, however, are irrelevant as they no longer apply. It does contribute a bit as to why I chose to use a 4 star rather than 5 when my scoring is a 4.5- so I will start with my actual review and discuss the irrelevant impression at the end. The first point I will make is -- the location isn't the most accessible place ever, not to mention the time. Being that the location is at the Camarillo Airport with no public transit for either Section from Oxnard that early in the morning, I needed to book a room at a nearby Inn in order to attend since I did not have a driver's license nor a vehicle to get there. Getting over to the airport from the Inn was equally as bad as there are no sidewalks present for about half of the hike there, and it is pitch black. These are probably the biggest hindrance for their operation, except it is outside of their control since they have to work with Airport Security and it is what is available. My actual experience riding, however, was fairly good. It was a bit nerve-wracking since I was a complete beginner that knew nothing about motorcycles and was especially intimidating since the instructors cycled through the riders so each would lead at some point during the session and I wasn't 100% sure about what I was doing. I wasn't sure about leading one of those times, so they let the next person lead and I followed up at the end. They are definitely considerate and care about your safety. I would have appreciated more time practicing riding, but it was definitely enough time to learn to ride -- not to mention they have something in place should they feel that you need more time. The classroom portion was also very informative. As I was very serious about learning how to ride, I went over the entire handbook they provided before the course to make sure I would have some understanding of what they were talking about when I got there. I am glad to say that they do not simply talk about what was written in the handbook and add in other bits of information that help with understanding why riders will do certain things -- eg. loud motorcycles. I would definitely recommend this course, even if you don't ride a motorcycle or plan to. I definitely learned a lot from this course and if I were given an option to take it again, I would, even if I have to go through the inconveniences preparing for it again. I feel like I would have enjoyed the course more if I wasn't so tense and serious, but it definitely helped for learning quickly -- I definitely enjoyed it once I started getting things down. --- Below is my now-irrelevant-first-impression. This is to let anyone that heard from me rant back then know that everything back then has been resolved and that they shouldn't let what they heard keep them from signing up for the course if they were interested. ---- My first impression was August ~ September 2017- Signed up by phone late on a Friday. No confirmation email nor a charge on my account to indicate registration even after a week. Second call for documents and payment -- only the fee was charged. Next was an answering machine. Documents for the course, finally, on the fourth call, but no receipt again. No promised reminder call prior to the course, repeat documents sent via email instead The second part was my fault. I was around the meeting area at 50~55 minutes -- a little later than the written 45 minutes for gathering but still before the hour when class officially started and saw nobody. The sign for the classroom wasn't placed outside that morning (the CMSP sign was there though) and I didn't have printouts on hand and didn't save their number so I wasn't sure where to go. I gave up, went to the nearby diner and waited for a call that didn't come. The following Monday, I called in THREE times and all three were met with someone hanging up immediately. These events are irrelevant because everything was resolved to a very satisfactory degree. The owner got in contact with me after I filed some complaints to someone higher up and I was told that the person that was responsible for the mess had quit and would have been relieved of her duties if she hadn't. The owner was also generous enough to fit me into the next available course that I was able to attend despite the troubles he's been having, even after I told him I was mostly to blame for not making it there. Other issues that I brought up were also fixed, not to mention the other students in the course when I finally attended the course in October gave the new person in charge of the office outstanding reviews. Overall a great crew, and I do apologize for the trouble I caused. read more

After many years I finally took this course ans so happy I did. I had never operated a motorcycle in my life but by the end of day 2, I learned swerving, swift stops, counter-steering, and the knowledge to safely ride a motorcycle. I loved that we had a variety of instructors because each brings their own knowledge and personality to the course. I appreciated the fact that they provided the motorcycle (I am now officially in love with the Suzuki GZ 250) as well as helmets since those are big ticket items that I can't commit to purchasing at this point. Also, I appreciate the little details as in "please wear layers." I was easily putting on/taking off layers as you are inside/outside throughout the day. I would have been so uncomfortable if I had not know this ahead of time. I had such a great time and experience that it really makes me want to buy a motorcycle and increase my skill. I had never ridden a motorcycle before in my life, but wanted to get one for my commute to save money on parking. At the end of the two-day class, I feel comfortable enough to ride on surface streets (no highway riding for me yet until I get a lot more experience). Classroom was very informative, not only teaching proper riding techniques and strategies, but the reasons behind them. My husband and I recently purchased a Vespa and a Piaggio scooter and a motorcycle rack. The rack was to be delivered to a store at a specific date. There was a huge delay which caused an issue because my husband and I signed up for the 3 day Motorcycle Training Course at Learn To Ride VC. Larry, the owner of Learn to Ride VC was contacted by the store to see if we could reschedule our class since we wanted to learn to ride on our own scooters and we didn't have a rack to bring them to the class. Larry did something amazing and unique as a business owner. He actually offered to come to our home, pick up our scooters in his own trailer and take them to the range. Not only pick them up but bring them back to our home after the class was over. He stated he didn't want us to miss out on the class to learn. I was so taken back by his generosity. He kept to his word. Our class started on a Friday and early Friday he showed up and put the bikes on his trailer, secured them and had them set up on the range for our riding class Saturday morning. Larry is so considerate and truly cares about his clients needs. As for the class, it is incredible! What makes it so incredible? The instructors (and of course, Larry). Actually, it starts when you call to register. Sabrina is the office manager and she is so great. I called her a few times and we had things all set up and ready for the class. If you have any concerns about the class she is open to answer any questions you may have. Our class was the 3 day class. The 3 day class that we took consisted of classroom time on Friday evening, learning to ride on Saturday morning, after lunch was classroom time with written test. Sunday is half day with riding and skills test. We were hesitant on going to a class on a Friday evening after a long work week. But once we met our instructor Bob, we knew it would be a interactive night. He was full of energy and informative. He taught us in an easy manner and he was extremely knowledgeable. The classroom was comfortable and there was fresh coffee. Saturday morning we had to meet at Camarillo airport at 6:30am. Sabrina met the class there and drove us in their shuttle onto the range in the airport. They provide the motorcycles and helmets. The motorcycles are very well maintained. There were even a couple of Harleys. Larry had made sure our scooters were there, and they were safely placed with the motorcycles. There was ice cold water and snacks provided if you needed. We had two instructors to teach the class. Bob was there and there was also Jose. Jose is an outstanding instructor. He was patient, informed, witty, and SHARP. Jose and Bob taught the class many techniques and skills that will surely stay implanted in our minds. After riding class we were excused for lunch and later met in the classroom. There Bob taught more info and then we had the written test. Pretty stressful, but if you read the material they emailed prior and paid attention in class and at the range you will do well. Sunday consisted of more skills and then THE RIDING TEST. Yes, it can be scary to think about. How can you pass a riding test if you have never rode? Well, after the classroom time and all the info that Jose and Bob taught us we were prepared. I have to admit I was pretty nervous , but we passed!! I am giving Learning To Ride VC 5 stars because they are teaching individuals how to ride safely out on the road. I look forward to taking their Intermediate class soon. I postponed taking this class forever. I have about 7-8 year riding experience, but it's been about 15 years since I had my last bike. I decided that I would take my son and go through the course. I'm glad I did, as there was good information for all that were in the course. The instructors keep it interesting and light. I enjoyed the class, the instructors and the time to watch my son gain more respect for riding than he would have learning on his own or from friends. Great experience with LTR VC. Our class was full at 12 riders over the 4th of July weekend. As for the staff, everyone was exceptional. I felt comfortable and that made it a lot easier to learn everything. The new Total Control curriculum was well taught and even the more experienced riders found it helpful. Only thing I wish was to have more time riding in the last 4-way stop scenario and maybe feel a higher speed but that's not the class's goal so I was overall very satisfied. It is a no-brainer to take a safety course if you're thinking about riding on two wheels or just want to refresh your skills. Amazing!! Absolutely worth the time, money, and experience from beginning to the very end. I took the two day Basic Motorcycle Training Course (MTC). I had never rode prior and signed up solo without knowing anyone else in the class. I made friends with my other fellow riders quickly and easily. Sabrina (Office Manager) - helpful, patient, and accommodating. Answered all my questions when I signed up over the phone and sent all my needed paperwork promptly. James and Jose (our class Instructors) - both were so awesome! Different styles of classroom teaching and both were equally engaging and knowledgeable. On the actual range, I felt comfortable with their direction and appreciated their feedback. I never felt bad when they corrected what I was doing and they were really paying attention to each student. Each skill was thoroughly explained, practiced, and built upon. Breaks were given at perfect times throughout the time block. Larry (Owner) - Great guy! Interacted with our class, answered questions, provided tips and help, and was also engaging. Classroom - Great space. Bathroom is clean. There is coffee, water, a vending machine, and candy in the classroom, but bring your own if you feel like something different. Range - There is a van that takes students from the airport parking lot to the Range. There are helmets you can use if you don't have one. They will provide you with a hair net to wear under the helmet. They also have some gloves but I suggest in investing in your own. Don't forget your sunglasses and over the ankle boots! Water and small snacks provided. The portable toilets are clean! I was able to bring a bag with me with a change of clothes (I was paranoid about getting too hot and cold, ripping something, who knows what else) and some snacks/foods with me onsite. Classroom and Range are in different locations Notes: 1. Wear layers. It was cold in the classroom but hot in the practice area. 2. Breaks in the classroom locations are not long enough to leave site. 3. There is definitely enough time to pick up a fast lunch in the break between the classroom and range. For out of towners, there is a shopping center around the corner from the airport with (fast) food options on Las Posas. 4. Don't be afraid to ask questions! 5. Bring your SPF for your face on the Range. All the skin on your body will be covered with clothes and gear, but your face (maybe neck) will still get that sun through the helmet. 6. Read your manual that they send in your email. 7. Make sure the pants you wear that are in compliance to their requirements fit you properly. There is a lot of getting on and off the bike and riding. Hiking your pants or making sure your butt isn't showing isn't something you should be worried about. This was overall a top notch program. Good luck and happy (safe) riding! read more
