The Gumstool Inn (attached to Calcot Manor) is one of the best dining establishments in the area. It's been our go to place to celebrate family occasions, and the classic British menu doesn't disappoint. Of noted is the new addition of tapas style nibbles and starters (pata bravas, chroizo slices, iberico ham and feta stuffed peppers). And I've been long overdue for a review of the local favourite.
We came today celebrating both Mother's Day and a 45 sapphire anniversary. I shared a lovely charcuterie with the missus, which includes the above mentioned iberico ham, chorizo slices and feta stuff peppers (all of which can be ordered separately off the small pates menu). Surprisingly the "ample" selection was plenty to share for two, and I can only guess that the "generous" portion would be meant for parties of four. I also enjoyed a lovely lamb roast that came with sides of kale, parsnips and perfectly roasted potatoes. Others in our party had the roast beef and roast pork; both of which I was told were delicious! We also shared a triple chocolate dessert that had an amazingly sweet and tart passionfruit sorbet.
All of this was enjoyed with a few pints of Amstel, bottles of champagne and fantastic service. I'm looking forward to the next family occasion to celebrate at the Gumstool. read more
