This is probably the weirdest place to play golf on Long Island. Its long standing claim to fame is…read morethat course conditions are pretty good. Currently that reputation holds on the fairways and greens. Rough is fine. Bunkers are generally not raked. More than a few tee boxes are unlevel and chewed up. The water hazards are either swampy or filled with what looks like straight Windex. The course is tight and in spots lined by condos. The driving range is grass which is nice, but no one is collecting baskets and keeping it tidy and the practice spaces are way too close together. In terms of the facility and the operation, it feels like a defunct country club. The aging clubhouse needs a lot of work. The ceiling in the men's locker room is leaking, the banquet hall looks abandoned & the halfway house is closed. There is a friendly beverage cart driver that we saw once during a 5 hour round. Yes a 5 hour round. The course is not rangered. The staff comes off as a bunch of characters. The "starter" has no name tag or logoed apparel on that would identify him as a course employee. They make sure the next group tees off the second the group ahead is out of range like a local muni. No effort to space out the groups. He also took it upon himself to watch tee shots and comment on everyone's result. Weird. Even the greens keeper drove around the entire fringe on one hole while we were putting and pulled away giving us the peace sign - crazy behavior both from a politeness factor for guests as well as a complete lack of respect for the course he's maintaining. They charge a luxury price - it is not a luxury experience. A mixed bag at best.

I'm of two minds on this course. On the one hand, the design is excellent. Gil Hanse is one of the…read moregreat designers working in the game, and it's a pleasure to get to play a public course designed by him. I also think the course is kept in reasonably good shape considering how much play it gets. That said I cannot recommend to is course because it is, frankly, horribly run. They put off groups every 9 minutes and the backups on some holes extend to 2, 3 or even 4 groups. The rangers do nothing to promote pace of play. I would easily pay 50% more to have groups go off every 12 or 15 minutes. It's abundantly clear that the staff has absolutely no regard for pace of play. I understand that they have to make money, but the course is so inexpensive that they could easily charge a premium to put out fewer groups. Additionally, on one Saturday I ended up waiting on the fifth hole for 45 minutes while a group of the club's members did a shootout on the green. They did not let us play through, and in fact cursed me out when I told them they were holding us up. It added well over an hour to what was already a five hour round when you count the delays on previous holes. Mind you this was on a Saturday at noon, which is a pretty high volume time to stage such a tournament. The staff was entirely unsympathetic to our complaints. Another time, the back nine was entirely clear and they were four groups on the fourth tee. My group decided to play the completely open back nine and we were sternly yelled at by the staff and thrown off the course. I would absolutely not recommend that anyone play here, which is a shame, because the course is actually lovely.

Timber Point Golf course is made up of three nine-hole courses, blue, white and red. The blue course has golf holes that have spectacular views of the Great South Bay. The municipal golf course being close to the water has taken a toll from climate changes that have affected most of the Long Island homes and facilities close to the shorelines. Timber Point Golf course needs renovation of its fairways and greens. Timber Point Golf Course great south bay location along with its beautiful natural surroundings seem to make it a no brainer. Unfortunately, from what I have read, the political hurdles to obtain budget approval to restore this course seem challenging. Personally, I struggled with the terrain of the golf course, long play, and the slow greens. Regardless of the wonderful Great South Bay views, I will not be playing this course in the future. There are many other Long Island public courses that have particularly good playing conditions. It would be unfortunate if Timber Point Golf course were not renovated, it is a beautiful location. I enjoyed playing the course, but the golf course were noticeably deteriorating. I wish those individuals the best of luck to find a way to preserve this Municipal Golf Course.

The terf we hit off with anything short of driver was nothing short of impeccable Kentucky blue grass. Vibe was 10 out of 10 and great quality for the $80/hr price tag. Service was annoying. We arrived five minutes late to our tee time, but our bay was not ready when we got there. It was actually dirty and they had to clean it - flag on the play; delay of game. If you've driven from Babylon eastbound you've definitely past it. The food was delicious. It was much better than your standard country club fare. Then we headed to the back room where a seafood station with the longest seafood bar I've ever seen was set up, as was a made to order pasta station. There was also a huge shrimp display and charcuterie tables to finish out the cocktail reception. For dinner we had a buffet with a roast beef and turkey carving station, eggplant parm, chicken Marsala, roasted potatoes, Caesar salad and rolls to finish out the meal. The service was impeccable. Bartenders were courteous and wait staff was on their game. They swooped in not a minute after finishing to pick up your plate and even got another beverage for you if you needed one. All in all a standout experience for a Long Island staple.
