I've been attending Guitar Ninjas for almost 4 years, and it has been a phenomenal experience. My wife found Guitar Ninjas through Yelp when searching for a birthday present for me. When she called, she spoke directly with Jason, and he answered all her questions. They got me signed up for my first lesson pretty quickly after that, and the rest is history. The curriculum Jason pulled together has helped me improve my skills while exposing me to new and interesting musical genres. However, my experience would be nothing without my instructor, Jin. He is an excellent guitarist in his own right and an excellent teacher as well. I came in with a smattering of guitar knowledge (had been playing for ~10 years before signing up and was largely self-taught), and Jin knew how to take what I already knew and combine it with everything the curriculum had to offer, dramatically improving my playing. I'm now able to do more than just look at a chord sheet and strum along or slowly make my way through a tab. I'm able to listen to a song, understand it, and am slowly but surely getting to a point where I can start transcribing by ear. Jin has been integral to this process, and I appreciate all the insight and help he has provided. If you are interested in either learning how to play guitar or improving your skills, Guitar Ninjas is the way to do it. I thought the staff was pretty cool. However, I just wasn't happy with the curriculum that they use. I spent three weeks just learning a power cord I would've liked more comprehensive lessons. Maybe learn a simple song. Learn a scale. A more multi prong approach. I switched over to Guitar Center and I'm much happier. The cost is about the same, but I'm learning a lot more than one thing at a time. It's nice to go home and be able to work on more than one thing. I think this business would cater more to young children who are total noobs, and don't even know the names of the strings or basic chords. But for somebody with some level of experience, I don't feel it's as helpful. read more

Guitar Ninjas is the best and only place you should go for guitar lessons! I researched other places before coming to Guitar Ninjas, and nothing compares or even comes close to this program. It is the most reasonably priced place around. We first began the program when I gave my husband lessons for his 40th birthday 5 years ago. Jason is so patient as my husband has a unique way of learning. Both my daughters started taking group lessons at their elementary school 3 years ago with Guitar Ninjas..currently my youngest has been enrolled for the past 2 years. Her teacher is Sydney and she rocks! We love her and my daughter is doing so well. She's already on the blue pick! The way their program works is they learn a certain number of songs for each level and then once they can play them all at 100% speed they earn a pick which goes on a necklace. They also have Level Up Day where you go to the studio to watch your child perform a song they are working on! In addition to this, GN also has the most innovative techniques to aide in learning guitar. My daughter wore a power glove to help with the form of her fingers. Both of my daughters have been taking lessons with Frankie for about half a year and they LOVE it here. They are learning songs like crazy, there are online videos they can watch at home that augment or support what they learn with Frankie.... so if a parent doesn't play - they can pull up a clip of the teacher showing the technique or song. They also include play a long versions of the songs at different speeds. Playing Tom Petty songs with my daughter is so amazing and they just adore getting to see Frankie every week because she makes it fun and not just another miserable lesson. The Guitar Ninja's program is excellent - well designed, structured and paced. I am an adult student and had never learnt an instrument growing up - and I love the program. I am able to take my half hour lesson over a lunch break once a week - and really look forward to the mental break it provides. I am learning new skills each lesson and enjoying it more every week. I take my lessons at the Burbank location - the studio has a great vibe and feels great to be in. The teachers are easy to talk to and engaging - they take enough time to ensure you get the skills sorted, checking mechanics and making it a great experience. The online learning portal has also really helped me - it has all the lesson videos to refer back to and go over at home as well as other tools such as drum loops etc. The design of the online portal is really easy to use as well. First a little background....I'm 69 years old and got my first guitar 55 years ago. The lessons I took over the years ranged from "this is a C chord" to "just learn these riffs" to "learning from songs." Learning from songs is fine, in fact the Guitar Ninjas program is song based. The big difference is that GN's program is structured, which is HUGE, beneficial wise. Their program has 8 tiers, taking the student from beginner to advanced. Within each tier, different skills and techniques are taught, each building on the previous. Each skill/technique has its respective song to learn, reinforcing the lesson. Jason, the founder of Guitar Ninjas, does all the videos, which he fully and clearly explains. The videos contain the lesson, virtual dojos, skills and play alongs, all at various speeds to accommodate your experience level. As you successfully complete each tier, you are awarded the respectively colored pick. This is a great motivator. I've looked ahead at the advanced lessons, just to see what songs are waiting to be conquered. Great stuff and another motivator. Being retired, I find myself practicing 2+ hours/day. Never did this much in my life. My lessons are in Orange with Frankie, "a wee wisp of a lass", but a great teacher and player.
