When I came to Denver in 1985, I met Brian just shortly after settling in. I played a little bit of guitar back then (just mainly easy rock power chords). I knew bits and pieces of about 500 songs but couldn't play more than a handful of songs all the way through.. Long before he became the great instructor that he is today, He was light years ahead of me when it came to playing guitar... As a friend , He was very helpful, skilled, passionate and blatantly honest (we all need that sometimes). He taught me how to play 'scorpions - no one like you' (the rhythm part) so he could solo over it and we could make music together! What a great song and what a great experience that was! He also taught me the solo parts to Aerosmith 'dream on' shortly after that. I still play those licks today (They are timeless!) I lost touch with Brian for about 20 years due to my own life circumstances and family reasons. As soon as I was back in town and within kicking distance , I looked him up right away on the internet because it was so long since we last spoke and he was always a true friend! Once I realized how much he had achieved since our time apart, I was very amazed! Always striving for the best and never settling for less! It definitely shows! We talked for awhile and reminisced about the good old times (as we all do) etc... Immediately after, I asked Brian ... " Hey! Can you help me to learn how to play solos?" I'm fairly decent @ playing rhythm (chords) but I really need to learn how to solo.. Brian said, "Sure! Let's get you into my studio and I will evaluate your level of playing and create a custom lesson plan based on your current abilities" I said "Great! Where do I start? He said, "Just get in the car, bring your guitar and drive over .. " I've got you covered on this! I was very excited! So, I wen't over about a year ago and he started helping me become a better musician. He has since patched quite a few holes in my education ... It takes a brilliant mind and a great teacher to look at something or someone so complex and break it down to a level we all can understand! I have made leaps and bounds of progress due to Brian's teachings. He is dragging me kicking and screaming every step of the way from the 6th grade level to the college level and I thank him for it! I started lessons once a week with Brian about one year ago, I'm 50 and had not played an instrument since 8th grade so I was pretty much starting from nothing. I'm really pleased with my progress and have reached a point where it has really become a lot of fun playing songs that I love.
