Online Lessons available while Lessons Facilities are closed
    Jeannette L.

It's been a while since I've visited this GC on Route 22, especially with stay-at-home orders earlier this year. Right now, this GC does both curbside and indoor services. The on-site lessons facilities are temporarily closed, but online lessons are available. I stopped inside about three or four times this past week to drop off a guitar for repairs with my dude. We've come here before for repair services, and he's been satisfied. With this job, there were some complications and we brought it back again, but it was resolved to the best they could. I think the final call from my dude was that it was fair. It's worth the upkeep for sure, but reality is that it's an older electric. So far, I believe the work was dude approved. I like this GC. Can be a pain to get into the parking lot, but that's because it's Route 22 and it's a roll of the dice with who else is on the road with you that day. Bottom line, recommended Guitar Center.

One of two drum sets to thrash!

music can be restorative meditation. an exercise exorcising so much daily life piles on us. musicians know. this past weekend I played drums for the first time in decades. I'd played for decades years before that. i made a beeline for Guitar Center and Mike hooked me up no upsell. no attitude. quick and kind. All I need was time alone in a room with a drum set to throw a beatin' on it and get my timing back in all sorts of ways. How a business treats its smallest customers is as revealing as how they treat their biggest. I appreciated that - so will you. And nice little rehearsal room. Perfect. Oh and walls of guitars!

Use Sweetwater sound if you possible can. No local stores around here, but customer service at Sweetwater is off the charts.

Shopped the website then called and had a long discussions with Lou while he did in-hand descriptions of several guitars I considered. I already owned two Peerless brand guitars and know that the high quality to reasonable price ratio for the Korean made guitars is very good. Guitar n' Jazz is probably the highest sales volume dealer of Peerless guitars in the USA. Several other high quality brands also sold. After my purchase via phone call, Lou did a great job in setting up the guitars for maximum playability and putting super premium Thomastik strings on at no higher charge. Shipment time was excellent. Packaging was top notch. Of course Hard shell cases were included. Advice: Always buy a hard shell case when you purchase an instrument remotely that requires handling by Fedex / US Postal service / UPS no matter what the instrument is. I've sadly gotten several instruments over the years from other sellers shipped in double cardboard boxes that were completely destroyed upon arrival. Nobody wants fire place kindling when buying a wooden musical instrument. Even though there are several guitar shops that sell a few vintage jazz instruments within 50 miles of my home, I will always check this shop first when contemplating my next purchase. 5 Stars! Highly recommended.

Owner Lou is honest, very easy to work with and he wanted to make sure I was happy my choice and with the purchase for all the right reasons. The guitar arrived well-packed an in perfect shape (it was advertised as "excellent" but in my opinion, it was actually closer to mint). There were a couple of issues that I felt should have been taken care of before it was sent out (it happens). Lou agreed and he was quick to make amends. I guess that's why it's a good idea to deal with a serious, long-time, reputable dealer who picks up the phone himself. Not sure what else you could ask for. Many thanks for making the process hassle-free, Lou; I'm seriously digging the guitar : )

This review has been a long time in coming, due to several serious family medical issues combined with a move to another state, and it is a review that I am grateful to finally write. Michael graciously and kindly helped me to complete the final (and most important) phases of mods on my 2006 Gibson SG Standard. My overall goal was to switch the colour-scheme of the hardware to Black, and so that it also had the "Doom" affinities of my previous guitar, an ′86 Jackson Custom made in the San Dimas workshop. The first phase of mods began with the installation of new tuning pegs and control knobs. I was able to get some Grover 102BC Original Rotomatic Black Chrome tuning pegs to replace the original faux-ivory white ones, the latter of which have really thin attachment posts (which I have seen break due to desiccation a few times). I always loved the control knobs on my Jackson, so I got a set of four Proline Back Chrome Textured Dome ones, which feel like home to me. The next phase of mods involved replacing the Gibson pickups with something more suited to my style of playing. I decided to go with the EMG Zakk Wylde 81/85 Humbucker Set in Black. Both of these are active pickups, like the one in my Jackson. I went to one of the big-box stores for the installation and when I picked it up, the tech (i.e. not a luthier) said that since the electronics cavity of an SG is notoriously small, he was unable to fit the battery inside of the cavity, and it was returned to me like this. He suggested that I find a luthier who could rout out a battery-box to ameliorate this situation, because the store didn't even have the proper tools for the work. I was, like...WTF. So, I found a real Luthier in Michael Virok. He was able to discard the splitter connecting the new pickups and wired them directly together so that a battery could actually fit in the cavity - without having to rout out a battery-box to the side of the cavity. While this setup may use batteries more quickly, there was no need to do any invasive procedure to install something by doing it this way (which I thought was a great idea!). He did this while I waited. Gratis. The final piece of the puzzle was the installation of a proper tremolo system, and I asked Michael if he could put a Kahler whammy-bar on it, because I absolutely adored the Kahler on my Jackson. Michael acted as a de facto consultant on this, and he graciously helped me to determine which Kahler model would be the best-suited for my SG. Bear in mind, that literally no other luthier in a 100-mile radius said that they could do this...not even in Philly. He installed the Kahler 2200 and it works perfectly! Taken together, I offer my highest recommendation, without any reservation, for Michael Virok at The Guitar Rescue as the regional go-to Luthier extraordinaire. If you live anywhere within an hour-or-two of Lawrenceville, NJ and have the need to do something, anything with/to your guitar, PLEASE let him work on your axe! I drove all the way from King of Prussia (PA) based on his reputation alone, and was so impressed with him. He is kind, affable, and a consummate professional whose only concern is customer satisfaction. Thank you so very much, Michael, for literally everything, and humble apologies for the exceedingly long delay in submitting this review. Namaste...
