I needed some new wiring in my strat and I had an issue that I couldn't work out so I called around and found out that this Guitar Center has a great tech named Jason that has been doing this for a long, long time. They do have a decent selection, too bad the employees have no interest in selling them. At least I got the model number on the guitar I was there to buy for my birthday. The Macon store itself is fairly nice, it's set up differently from many of the other guitar centers around Atlanta because it is so much smaller. Even with the smaller space they still manage to have a decent selection of gear, for the most part it's just the usual generic stuff in there, line 6 amps, epiphone guitars, etc.. The staff is polite for the most part but some of them don't seem to know very much about what they are doing. I tried to get a guitar stand that held 3 guitars and it was an act of congress to figure out what I meant and if they had one, it was aggravating. Also, don't plan on trading in gear unless you are not concerned about the value. They pay 60% of the value that they sell it for so don't expect much for whatever you bring in. All in all my experiences here have not been bad but I'll go to another store in the future, lack of selection, less than knowledgeable employees, and a somewhat pushy sales staff makes me not want to go back. Remember also that guitar center employees are on commission, so if you don't buy or don't buy something big they probably won't be too concerned with you. read more

Purchased a pedal board for my son who lives in Athens GA, the board was missing half of the Velcro required to attach the pedals so I went to the store and explained the situation. I was told that I would have to return the pedal board and then wait until another one shipped to the store or have my son in Athens return the board there and do the same thing. No attempt to contact the manufacturer to just send a replacement part and really no other options given other than...Sorry. I am going to leave it up to my son but if it were me I would return the board for a refund and buy local. I have a business here in Macon and I would not be in business long doing things the way that Guitar Center in Macon is doing them. Very disappointed. read more

I started playing guitar a little over 40 years ago. I was actually in a Hair Band in Hollywood and Anaheim California in the 80's. We sounded absolutely horrible. But I love guitars. I mean infatuation sort of love. I just recently brushed off the ole amp and started to play again. So after I got the stimulus money and a good chunk of change from my Dad as a gift, I went to Guitar Center to find a real cool guitar. The Gibson's looked wonderful. The finishes were not as nice, but they looked just how they always did. I asked for the SG Standard first. I could tell I was irritating the employees. I tried to be as apologetic as I could. They were teaching a class in the main showroom so they sent me to a back sound room with one of the worst amps I have ever heard and walked away. The SG was absolute garbage. I could hardly play it. The action was a mile high and it felt like it was made of particle board and pine scraps. It sounded like a transistor radio on the wrong channel. Then the Gibson Studio. I owned a Studio for a few years and it was awesome. Well the new ones definitely sucked a black hole into the world of six strings. The employees could tell I was disappointed so they started asking me questions. Questions you would ask someone buying their first guitar. Then one guy said. "That is a Gibson Deluxe." I almost lost it. They were Gas Lighting me. At Guitar Center???? LOL! Yes. Really making me think I was crazy. While they were explaining that maybe I was not used to the Gibson neck I reached up and touched a $400.00 Ibanez RG. It felt 100 times better then the Gibson guitars. So I left feeling like I might need to drop by a mental ward with delusions of Gibson or something, I remembered an old Music store in Warner Robins I used to hang out at. At least maybe the owner would believe I wasn't crazy and Gibson has actually gone to pot. As I walked into the store all the guitars were on the wall except one. A 1978 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe that just so happened to have a Super Distortion pickup and a coil split switch in it. BOOM! The new Gibsons are not within a 100 miles of the quality they used to have. I am now the very proud owner of a 32 year old guitar with worn frets and brittle wires that will play circles around anything that Guitar Center is trying to rudely push on unsuspecting patrons. My experience at the Macon store has been better than in Atlanta. The salespeople are quite knowledgeable and offer good insight for purchases. While it is true that musician/salesmen can be confident, this shouldn't distract any customer at any playing level to simply describe what they are looking for. I buy low money items to use in teaching, but I am greeted with the same emphasis as the guy getting ready to buy a Les Paul Limited. Overall - I find the Macon Guitar Center a cut above and truly enjoy every trip I make there. read more

Wonderful and well informed employees. They were able to answer all the questions I had, and Curtis gave me a really well detailed tour of their selection of studio monitors. This is by far my favorite place to come as far as audio equipment and instrument selection. They let you try out almost any of their instruments, and they will help you find exactly what you are looking for. Also, really good options as far as protection goes and also a nice unusually long return period. I've shopped here for a long time and I'm looking forward to shopping here for years to come. read more
