I purchased a guitar on March 27, 2025 at the Lansing, Michigan Guitar Center. Guitar: Cordoba C12 CD Today's date: April 23, 2025 The sales associate who entered the sale was apparently a trainee, since she had a trainer/manager talking her through the POS procedure. The guitar was in need of setup. Action was too high and the body was covered with greasy handprints. I never even took the guitar home. It hadn't left the store, yet. The trainer told me that they only had two part-time repair techs and it would probably be two weeks before my guitar was ready. I called Wednesday, April 9 around 5:00 PM to find out the status. It seems that, when I called, they were down to only one part-time tech. Also, after two weeks there were still 8 guitars in the queue ahead of mine, and the part-time tech had no sure idea when he would get to mine. "Monday or Wednesday of next week?" I gathered those are the two days he works. On Wednesday, April 16, the tech called me to tell me that the setup was done, but... Oh, no. Apparently, a new employee, now ex-employee, carelessly placed something heavy on the shelf above the workbench where my guitar was being set up. It fell on the guitar and damaged the top. He said he would fix it for free. I said that I wasn't happy with that, since my NEW guitar had never left the store and it was now a "damaged" new guitar that I paid full price for. To Fish's credit, when he realized that, he spoke to the manager about getting me a new guitar. She agreed, but it had to be ordered because they didn't have another one in the store. Fish said three to five days for it to come in, and he would set it up as soon as it did. Buying a guitar should not be this hard. I paid over $2000 for a guitar I haven't been able to take home and play, yet. I am not happy. I can't be upset with the tech, since he can only do so much in the time he has available. The fact that this store is working with only one part-time tech IS upsetting, given that they continue to sell guitars that they can't service. As of April 23, nearly four weeks since I first purchased the new guitar that was later damaged at the store, the replacement still hasn't been ordered. Do not take your used gear to Guitar Center to sell. They will rip you off and give you shit for your equipment. I was insulted by a offer of less than $350 for a guitar that currently sells for over $1000. I walked out and would encourage you to do the same. I have been a loyal customer for 10+ years. The store in Lansing was an overall great store with everything I needed. However, I went in today as a first time guitar buyer and I bought my friend who is a very experienced guitar player. After not even being greeted or helped, we spent several minutes in the acoustic section. There was only two in my price range, and I selected the one that was most comfortable for me. (as a first time buyer I am not going to spend over $300). When I went to checkout the employee asked me what the brand was and I was not 100% sure so I hesitated on my answer and he responded with "what you just picked the first one you saw?" The rest of our conversation was extremely condescending. I already felt nervous as it was my first time buying, and I felt extremely judged by this specific employee and wish my experience was more helpful. Picking up new hobbies can be challenging, and you should hire employees that encourage new learning and not talk to costumers like they are idiots. read more

No inventory. Very very limited. All guitars are not even set up. Played a $1000 fender and the action was so high I declined to even consider buying. Losing sales because of non set up guitars. Guitar rows empty. Guessing they are closing this location soon. read more

I don't play any instruments, but we stopped by Guitar Center because my nephew wanted to buy a guitar. The place is big, clean, organized. The staff members were nice, friendly and very helpful. If i ever pick up any instruments, this place will be my go to place... I can try any of the instruments.... Plenty of parking in the front. Bought my first acoustic guitar here and was helped by a man that had longer dark hair. I had an issue with the strap latch and came back, they fixed it free of charge. That was great! I also was looking at getting an electric and the same man helped demo and test out different amps and explained everything to me so well and so easily that I--someone who does not play electric--could understand. On Sunday, July 24th I purchased a Fender American Professional II Stratocaster online from Guitar Center. I am an older working musician, and have had countless interaction with music store staff and technicians. My apprehension regarding an online purchase has prevented me from previously considering such a purchase, but this was necessary to get the specific model/color I wanted. When my Strat arrived the following Wednesday, I was surprised to find that it had 9- gauge strings (something I learned is standard for new Stratocasters). Unfortunately, I use 11-guage strings. This necessitated a complete guitar set up for me to use and properly assess the instrument. My challenge is that I live 3 hours from the nearest Guitar Center, in Lansing, Michigan. I called the store and spoke with Guitar Technician, Jimmy Bennett. I was concerned, because I had a gig the next night, and I really wanted to try the new instrument in a "real world" environment. Jimmy assured me that he would make himself available to do a setup that day, eliminating a necessary return trip (6 hours roundtrip) and allowed me immediate use of the guitar for the next night's gig. Over the past 15 years, my wife Leslie and I have purchased several high-end guitars, countless guitar accessories, amplifiers, recording equipment, mics, lights, and live sound gear from Guitar Center. We have always enjoyed meeting Guitar Center employees and appreciate your employee's commitment to a high level of customer service. Jimmy Bennett exceeded those standards. Jimmy is a skilled and professional technician, who was able to quickly understand my needs as a musician and translate this into the best possible setup for my guitar. Mr. Bennett also took time to help me understand some of the capabilities of my new instrument (I have previously played primarily a Gibson Les Paul). He showed me some pedals that are especially well suited for Stratocasters, resulting in my purchase of the MXR Fat Sugar pedal. I believe that Jimmy Bennett is an asset to the Lansing store and is by far the best representative of Guitar Center I have encountered. read more

I placed an order over the phone for drum heads that were in the store so I could pick it up the same day. When I went to pick it up, they told me to wait for email that says my order is ready for pick up. It's been over 10 days and never got an email. When I emailed corporate, they basically told me I should've gotten that email the same day. I'm upset that this location never emailed me to get my stuff! DO NOT ORDER STUFF FROM THIS STORE. THEY WILL NOT TELL YOU WHEN ITS READY TO GET PICKED UP. If you can't go in the store and get it, go to a different music shop. read more

I've been here 3 times. Once to get an output jack for my bass guitar and they had no clue which one to sell me. They took about 15 minutes trying to figure it out and it was the wrong one. I went there to exchange it for the correct one and they had no clue how to do a return. Out of the three times I've probably waited at the register for a total of 45 minutes while these clowns tried to complete a simple task that should should have learn on day one of their job. Overall it is a nice store, but the incompetent and unprofessional staff will keep my money out of guitar center. read more

The staff is friendly and are equipped with the necessary knowledge to help with your instrument choice and questions you may have. I purchased my piano here and took lessons. **Just an update here: My son (now 14) has switched to drums with Adam. Again, another awesome instructor! Adam keeps him challenged and working hard (J comes out exhausted hahaha). Definitely another instructor I highly recommend!** My 12 year old son wanted to learn to play guitar, so I took him in and Eric, who schedules lessons, hooked him up with Tab... this is a perfect match! He keeps my son engaged (not always an easy task with my ADHD boy) and challenged but not overwhelmed, and has picked songs that my son loves (AC/DC, he's a little metal head, that one!). The lessons are very well priced, and the staff is really flexible if you have to move or cancel a lesson. As for the store, it's super clean, very well organized, and all the staff are friendly, helpful, and patient. My son chose a guitar from their previously owned section... in super condition and for a great price. He's loving his lessons, moving along at a very good pace, and this momma is happy happy happy! read more

As a young musician they treat me like shit. I was buying a guitar and asking one of the girls a question and she seemed irrupted with me and constantly rolling her eyes. Iv played the drums for 8 years so I know my stuff. I was asking the "drum guys" about a practice pad and he said he had no clue. Nobody in the store knows much about drums other than 1 guy and he is only there sometimes. I recently brought an almost brand new kit the guy who admitted to me he had no idea what he was doing looked up the kit which was not only the right model but was in bad shape. I always get treated like shit when I go there. I know its not only me my band feels the same way. read more
