While they were shortstaffed for a while the past year or so, they are well staffed now and have an excellent technician named Mitch. Mitch is very friendly, resourceful and enjoyable to deal with. He installed a pick up and restrung my guitar for me, which all turned out great. I definitely recommend you going to see him if you have a technical issue or question about your guitar. read more

The people are friendly and helpful. Anytime I ask a question or one of my kids has questions. They provide lots of information and hands-on advice. The store is always clean and organized. read more

I thought I would give this store another chance since I needed a set of strings tonight. These are the most rude inept people.I have run into all day long. I bought ten items all of which I put back except 3. I don't know who runs this place. But you're woke ass needs to be fired. No wonder I never shop in this store. Shoemaker in Burlington is such a nice, hospitable, and knowledgeable person. I highly suggest you give him your business. read more

Here's the thing...with Guitar Center some days it's 5 stars - great response and help. Other days you'll walk in and no one is there to help. I went to shop for drums and cymbals with my son and only one person was working, busy at the counter. Another time came in to pick up some items ordered online and it took forever to find and pull the item. When there is someone there in the know, they are great. They just suffer like most retailers, especially big box in a smaller city. read more

The employees Alex, Daniel, Tristan, and Jacob have all been fantastic. Tristan helped order a guitar and Alex got my son into guitar and Daniel did a demo lesson with my him and Jacob told us about lessons. Overall the employees are so helpful, and it's a great place. 5 stars read more

My experience at this place has been inconsistent. The staff last week was incredibly helpful. However, today was the opposite. We came to pick up a guitar my son ordered and the staff was incompetent and dismissive. The new guy went to the back to look for it but then came back out to ask another staff member for help because he didn't have access to it due to being a new hire. The second guy brought it out and just sit the box by the counter. No one told us that it was our order and they allowed a couple of minutes until I approached them to inquire about it. Needless to say, they said they assumed the first guy (new guy) would have told us. The lack of communication and poor customer service leaves a bad taste in my mouth about their service. I was considering enrolling for guitar lessons, but not sure if you can invest in something where employees act like this. Once again, last week my experience was great with another staff member but today just makes me not want to come back. read more

I took my 50-yr-old Yamaha classical guitar to the Guitar Center. The salesman was courteous and very helpful. He was not chatty at all but did a good job researching the value of it, and I ended up selling the guitar to the Guitar Center for the price he quoted. They also carry electric pianos, drums, and probably more instruments that I did not see. I would continue to dod business there. read more

There is no customer service here. Go to Music Barn. Family owned for over 50+ years.

Yall suck. You had a used keyboard listed on your website in Great Condition. So I drive over there and you don't even have the keyboard out on the floor because it's got a repair tag on it with multiple stuck keys. And it's supposed to be in Great Condition? Are you serious? This ain't my first issue with you people. read more

Good selection of guitars, basses, percussion and recording equipment. I particularly enjoyed the acoustic room and recording room. When I visited, the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. If I am in the area again, I wouldn't mind coming back. read more

Nobody or no company is perfect so I give a 4 star. I've delt with them for years even when they were on High Point Rd before it changed to Gate City Bldv. You can't say much about used equipment that you're selling from someone who traded or sold. They give time to bring it back. I don't care for the little guy in front who repairs things, since to me he's not a people person to no fault of his own. He should be in the back where all he does is fix stuff. Otherwise you're free to play the instruments and test what you can. Since my values have changed I buy used stuff from other people especially basses. They're good for sound equipment but you gotta remember they're not trained to sell I think they're supposed to know more about equipment. They don't make enough to read more

Makes me laugh reading all the negative reviews about this store. I've been there a half dozen times over the last year and never had an issue with the staff. Yeah they don't bowl you over with non-stop sales help, but I don't want that. I'm good with their initial hello and asking if I need help, then leaving me to look around if I say I don't. And they have some great used gear. it's not dirt cheap, but that's to be expected if you're buying used from a retail store. All the people that bash businesses like this have no clue what it takes to keep a business open, especially the musical instrument business. read more

Mostly positive experiences with shopping here. Sometimes feel unwanted pressure to purchase protection plans. Tech service is excellent. I would warn other customers to be careful with purchasing used equipment. I believe they mislabel used guitars, sometimes, to sell them as upgraded, higher priced models. read more

I'm giving this one star because Yelp couldn't let me give something less. The customer service is horrible. I walked into the store asking for information on a product and the employee just did not care to provide any help. If I wanted someone to give me attitude and not answer my questions, I would have just gone to my mom's house! I never felt more abandoned by staff in my entire life. Staff is much more ruder than a receptionist at your middle school. You'd be better off having more helpful service from a guy on E-bay than walking into this piece of junk. Save your time from coming here unless you want to walk into misery. read more

I hate to leave negative reviews for places that don't have a single review yet, however my experience here has led to extreme dissatisfaction. I've been a fan of guitar center for a number of years, they typically have any and all equipment that I may need on hand and are willing to price match most competitors. I stopped in at this location during a road trip to Raleigh and purchased a brand new Shure M44-7 cartridge. Upon returning home I was shocked to find that the brand new product I had purchased was missing an integral piece, the included tool bag. It was quite obvious from the packaging that the tool bag had been included at one time, it had been removed either by a sticky fingered customer, or an employee. Either way, it wasn't there, and without it, my cartridge was essentially useless, there was no way for me to install it on my headshell. I called the store to inform them of my dilemma, in the light that I had a gig the following evening that I would not be able to play without proper equipment. The manager, Anthony, was pleasant enough to deal with, but the only solution he could offer me was shipping out the missing toolbag. That's fine and all, but having to wait for shipping, I'd have to cancel my gig, thus costing me an extra hundred dollars in lost revenue. I've once received defective equipment from Amazon, who were happy to replace the piece, and even give me a gift certificate for my trouble. Guitar Center however offered me no such understanding or compensation. Based on my experience at this location, I will do the greater amount of my equipment purchasing through Amazon from this point on. They were willing to not only amend the problem, but go the extra mile to make sure I was satisfied. read more

I had a tuning knob (called a BUTTERBEAN) that broke on my acoustic guitar & needed replacement. They told me they would have to take off the entire tuning assembly & replace all the knobs. About $100. I went online and found a butterbean for $5. Then I found a youtube video that showed me how to replace it very simply. (It's plastic. You just put it in boiling water for 30 seconds, place it on the tuning knob & let it cool.) Worked like a charm. They are VERY OVERPRICED. Make sure you exhaust all other possibilities before you go to The Guitar Center. They will massively overcharge you. Won't ever go there again. Try The Music Barn on Coliseum Blvd. or MusicGoRound on Stanley Road. read more

We live in Dry Fork Va. on the other side of Danville Va. so when we go to Greensboro N.C. to look at pianos to buy you kind of expect someone to help you. There was at least three people working and it was a couple hours before they close. I asked about a dgx-660 keyboard that was listed on their webpage for a discount because it was returned blemished, they did not know what I was talking about after i asked several times. Then I was told that if I wanted to buy a keyboard I would not be able to because the manager with those keys wasn't even there to night. So, if you know what you want and can find it yourself, and I guess check your self out then welcome your are at the right place. read more

The manger will communicate with you but only after you buy something . They will say ANYTHING to get you to buy merch. Stop by today and google a product and ask them questions about it, its like watching someone lie but live.... audio that is, plus the whole idea of it is somewhat dated. Its like a going to a car dealer ship and watching 45 people rev the engine as loud as they can while the sales man says "you"re really good at that, by the way it doubles as an airplane and for 400 dollars more we can fill it up with gas before you leave, and the answer to your question is yes it is blue but for insurance reasons we have to say its red." PROS: Hearing anyone say the word humbuckers is always funny. CONS: Have you ever heard an acoustic cover of "wagon wheel" played simultaneously? Its what a tree sounds like when its explaining a reenactment involving a therapist and two dolls. read more

One word. "Nope". Stood in front of someone who didn't even attempt to acknowledge my presence. Do yourself a favor and pick another store for your musical needs. I regretfully went against the reviews because it was the closest store to my home. I tried to do the online feedback and it said the page didn't exist. My guess is that they just don't care. I had plans in the next year to buy a new guitar, I'll gladly take my business elsewhere. Working in customer service I know how hard it can be to please the public but the effort of this store is minimal. read more

I'm a huge skeptic of brick and mortar stores but strongly encouraged my wife to try out some headphones first before purchasing a professional pair for her work (she proofs audiobooks part-time). John Haskins helped us and I haven't had a better shopping experience. Their selection was a bit limited (I'm used to shopping at the B&H in NYC--you can demo almost anything) but we found something that worked for my wife. True, I did find it a little cheaper on Amazon later but had I taken the time to check in the store I'm pretty sure they would have matched the price. In the end I don't begrudge the difference because of the confidence that we got appropriate gear at a reasonable price without the agony/delay of returning gear and solely trusting others reviews. read more

One good thing about Guitar Center stores is that they are the same everywhere. [ I've used both this store and the Chattanooga, TN store.] Loud, crowded, glittery, confusing and heavy on inventory. The staff members seem to be familiar with what they sell and if you want something from the existing inventory then you are OK. I had difficulties trying to special order a publication. Every time I've shopped one of these places I have left with sensory overload and a bit of a headache. The prices seem reasonable but I find entering the door not to my liking. Brick and mortar music stores have become the best argument for my shopping on line. read more

At what point do you, as an employee of Guitar Center, stop tuning guitars in the acoustic room? My guess would be when a customer is in the same room vainly attempting to sample the tone of the guitar they're potentially seeking to purchase. At one point he was actually tuning guitars so loudly it seemed he was intentionally trying to drive me out of the store. He succeeded. I should know better. I think I'll stick to the Mom & Pop stores. Apparently, they need my business more then Guitar Center. read more

As a previous restaurateur I can and do appreciate reviews! Positive ones are, of course, better than negative ones though everyone is entitled to their opinion. I was surprised by some of the less than enthusiastic reviews about this store. I just want to give my sincerest thanks and appreciation to Chris and the others who helped me. Your help was AWESOME and if everyone is given that kind of customer service you should have a 10 star rating!! Many, many thanks... I'll definitely be back! read more

You would think Greensboro would have a great Guitar Center. I have been there several times through the years because I have extended family members living in Greensboro near the Guitar Center. Last Wednesday was my last time to visit this store. First, I entered the store to have to listen to excruciatingly loud electric guitar banging by some 12 year old looking kid who should have been told by the management to turn it down. I felt like an invisible patron as I worked my way to the acoustic room to look at the Martin and Taylor guitars and get out of earshot of the loud noise. Not to mention his buddy in the percussion room accompanying him on the drums from a distance. The acoustic room was where I really wanted to be because I had intended to purchase a 000 Martin. All the decent guitars are now locked on the top shelf so you can't play them unless someone unlocks each guitar you would like to try out. This means you have to find an employee each time to unlock a different guitar. Unlike Guitar Center's commercial I have seen where everyone looked so happy jamming on their stuff. I finally got an employee who was not familiar with the locks to try and unlock the guitar I wanted to see. He had to drag in a monster ladder outfit, crowd through the folks in the acoustic room, climb up and guess what? He had no key. He makes a couple phone calls for a key. A manager guy came in and exclaimed to the two employees in the acoustic room, one helping me and the other helping another guy, that there were customers in line out front that needed help. Bottom line, they could never get the lock off the guitar and all I got was, "sorry man." For sure I am the invisible patron, because I'll never be seen there again. P.S. Where's the manager? read more

Drum department is very cluttered and disorganized. Cannot get to drums and equipment on the shelves because of so much stuff in the way. They have a decent used selection of amps and guitars. Lot's of new guitars, but would like to see more variety (way too many expensive Gibson's). Over the last two years, I bought a used amp here for myself and a new practice amp for my son. Both still working fine. I think they have too many salespeople for the amount of traffic there. They have too many used (and new) guitars and amps with issues out on the floor for sale ... like a brand new Squier Telecaster with a loose input jack, so you get no sound when you plug it into an amp ... or a guitar with one broken tuner ... or a used amp that will power on, but no sound comes out when you plug in. My biggest pet peeve is they have new Blackstar and Vox amps on the floor for sale (not plugged in) that use the tiny 12V power supply cord like a laptop, so there's no way to evaluate that before you buy. I have asked about these power supply cords more than once and was told they "didn't know if they had any in the back". You just have to make sure EVERYTHING works before you buy something and walk out the door. I don't know if Sam Ash is any better ... read more

I went to guitar center knowing that I would pay slightly more than any deal online, because of the convenience factor. If you go to this store you will have to deal with price discrepancies at the register and this will cost you more time than its worth after you wait to have the overcharges reversed (and will take a few days to credit back to your card). Save yourself the stress and order from musiciansfriend.com or amazon, etc .Overall my experience at GC felt like what you would experience at at a car dealership. read more

I have gone here once just last week and will never go back. I simply wanted them to change the strings on my acoustic guitar. I called and spoke to the person who does the work and was quoted a price but when I got there and the work was completed, I was told a different price. I asked about it and was told that I was never quoted the original price. He put the guitar back in the case before giving it back to me and I didn't think I needed to check it since it was simply a string change. I was wrong. First of all, he put electric guitar strings on my acoustic guitar (probably the reason for the price difference). Also, he didn't bother to tune it or get it anywhere near playable condition. Maybe they were out of acoustic strings and this kid wanted the cash? Either way, I just moved to this area and found this store online and went there. Over a simple string change, they have lost a customer. I will never go back. read more
