They had a hard time finding them, but 9 were supposed to be in stock. Finally found 7, of which 5 had severely crushed boxes. Still full price! Should be marked down because of condition. I also wanted one set of NYXL 1046 electric guitar strings. Full price is $12.99 but the web site for Guitar Center listed them as on sale for $9.99. I asked the sales rep behind the check-out if they were on sale. When he said no, I told him the price on the store's web site. He checked it and I was correct. But he had to get the manager to verify and change the price. I told him that the advertised price was what he was obligated to charge. There were no restrictions at all listed. After he stepped away, another rep told me that only the Balanced Tension were on sale, and oops, they are out. He tried selling me up, but they were out of the Balanced Tension too. Finally the first rep came back and said that I was correct and the price for any NYXL strings was $9.99. He insisted on using his phone to ring this up and that was where the problem happened. So after he arrived at the total, I verified the price.."two Humidipaks for $25.99 each and one set of NYXL strings for $9.99?" He confirmed with, "That's right". On the way home I checked my receipt, and I saw that he charged me $11.99 for the strings plus tax. Too little for me to go back and get my money, but enough to really seriously aggravate me. My advice, check your receipt before leaving the store. And for this particular crew in the store today (12/11/2025) , take a class on customer service!!!

I started playing my viola again after 20 years. The bow was in sad shape, so I brought it in for…read morethem to take a look at. They were able to rehair it for me, but it had a hard time keeping the hair. It is the original bow from when my mom initially bought the instrument in the 1960s, and is just plain worn out. My dad came to visit a few years ago and we went in together to purchase a new one. The selection was very good. They allowed me to try them out with my viola, to find the one that sounded the best. There was no pressure, they simply showed us where they were and stepped out of the room. I have been very pleased with the bow ever since. Two years ago, my viola started to crack. Some of the seams were coming apart. I took it in and they looked at it, and determined it was too complex for them to repair. They did, however, give me the contact information for a luthier in Greensboro that was able to complete the repairs. I'm glad they were able to recognize that it was beyond their skill set, rather than attempting a repair and possibly destroying my instrument.

First off, that "Piano Clearance" sign has been up for months so take its message with a grain of salt. Secondly, the salesman here was dismissive, and had quite the air of pretension in the way he talked to me, which was probably because I am fairly young and did not come wearing a suit. Thirdly, I found his attitude even odder because Mitchell's Piano Gallery is NOT a high-end piano place with their focus being cheap overseas imports like Kawaii, Yamaha, Baldwin and Roland. I would save my time and go to Piedmont Music Center on Broad St who not only sells everything that's sold here (plus high end pianos like Steinways and Bosendorfers), but does so with a friendly attitude.
