VIP opening night for the Oak Park Black Film Festival. Looking forward to seeing lots of new films at The Guild this week.

Attended the Oak Park Black Film Festival for several nights in a row. Great theater. Circa 1915. Ample parking around the neighborhood.

I just watched TAN the K-Pop group, at this cool little venue. I like how this venue is very ADA friendly and for my wife it's very important, since she's a wheelchair user. Very well organized setup and very clean theater. I enjoyed watching this live performance on this stage!

I went here on July 15 to see Beauty of Japan which I recommend seeing if you can, they were all very passionate about their performance. Also, the theater was nice (only complaint was that there was no AC on a hot evening but I'm not sure if they don't have AC or chose not to use it...). Comfortable seating and easy to see the stage.

This a community theater that does many shows/events to bring variety and thought provoking Sacramento

Hell to the yes...moto the movie. BaBam!!

A percentage of the proceeds go to the "Help Jesse Nelson Foundation." We purchased 5 -$18 tickets at this event. As my first experience to see a motocross movie In northern Cali I was invited to see the exclusive premier of Moto8 at the Guild Theatre. This theatre is a classic! The Guild was refurbished back to its original condition several years ago and it is a hidden gem. The Guild had a cozy community feel to it as its big but not too big....and there's not a "bad" seat in the house. I was invited to sit in the production booth with the movie producer and director. This booth is located on the second level at the top row and happens to have a vast "birds eye view" of the entire house and center stage. The producer introduced himself to the audience and thanked all his drivers and team members who supported the filming and production of Moto8. I felt like a member of sacto's diverse moto counter culture while I watched this show. The music was excellent, the cinematography was sublime, and the skillful yet rogue riders were fascinating to watch.

Worth a trip, depending on what's showing. If it's too hot in the balcony, the operator will gladly turn the heat down.

I finally got to see The Lion King for the very first time, something I've wanted to experience for many years, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I went solo and honestly loved the experience. I purposely chose an aisle seat so I could watch the performers move up and down the aisles, and I'm so glad I did. It made the show feel even more immersive and special, especially during those moments when the cast comes through the audience. The venue itself is beautiful and easy to navigate. From entering the building to finding my seat, everything felt organized and smooth. The seating was comfortable, the sightlines were great, and the sound quality was excellent, which really matters for a production like this. As for The Lion King, it was amazing. The costumes, music, and staging were stunning, and seeing it live after wanting to for so long made it even more meaningful. Overall, such a great first experience at this venue. I would absolutely come back to see another performance here, and I'm so glad this is where I finally got to see a show that had been on my list for years

They had a reasonably priced bar of snacks, drinks and beer, etc. Ot seemed to be a cozy theater and had a nice outdoor patio area to lounge around. Parking is ample as there is a parking lot across the street. I parked on the curb and my "special" spot was the only one missing a parking meter! The staff told me it is the lucky spot and you don't have to feed the meter( hole in the ground where they took it away I guess)! So that is my special tip for you- almost in front of the theater, but back a bit in front of a brick lawyer's building in front of a tree! Free parking! You're welcome! And just to confirm, I had a heart attack when the meter police came to check the cars and meters and he heard me say I better get to the car! I generally prefer weekend matinees, but have also done weeknight shows. Due to the circular staging, every seat in the house is a great view. Sometimes the action is in the aisles or overhead! As with Broadway Sacramento at the SAFE PAC, they do electronic tickets as well as paper tickets/will call from the box office. There is a bag check but I'm not sure about the leniency of the bag size policy. There is a courtyard with tables and chairs, but I don't know if you can bring outside food through the gate (definitely not inside the theater). There is a subscriber's lounge for seasonholders before/after the show. Concessions are available, one line forms outside for the window to order near the main entrance, and in the hallway at the other end is another stand if you're feeling like popcorn, soda, Gunther's ice cream, water, etc. @sacmusicals also usually has a backdrop/step-and-repeat photo opportunity with props which is available before, during intermission, and after the show. The snaking queue for the ladies' room may seem like a lost cause, but the tag team of bathroom attendants at the restroom near the main entrance are on top of it to keep everything moving! No less than three staff were directing patrons to open stalls and further led them to an exit door out to the courtyard so it didn't create two-way traffic jams. Props to them, this is not a minor thing! Very efficient, especially with only a 20-minute intermission. Dress code is lax, but if you're dressed for the triple-digit summer weather outside, know that inside they do keep it pretty chilly. Parking at the Memorial Garage is super convenient, reserve in advance to save at least $5. The 2025 season had: Footloose, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Million Dollar Quartet, Hello, Dolly!, West Side Story, In the Heights so far. The remaining shows are Hair and White Christmas.

It's a historic theater in downtown Sacramento that presents live entertainment, movies, and special events. What makes it unique is the stage in front of the screen, which gives it a classic, old-school vibe. She paid for the tickets ahead of time, but their system was down when we arrived. They had to check everyone in manually from a laptop. It was understandable things happen and the staff handled it as smoothly as they could. While she was confirming our tickets, I grabbed popcorn. Sadly, the popcorn was a little salty. Like most theaters, it was a little pricey. We may or may not have brought our own candy and drinks... don't tell anybody. It had a good crowd but wasn't too bad.We got some good seats. Since it's a historic theater and not a newer upscale cinema, the seats didn't recline and were a little small, but they were still comfortable enough I've seen Coming to America plenty of times on TV, but watching it on the big screen in a classic theater like this was a different experience. Basically these are the national/domestic/U.S. touring companies -- so not truly "community" theater as the venue name might suggest. My first show at CCT was Les Miserables, actually. In the Heights, West Side Story, Wicked, Avenue Q, Starlight Express, Mamma Mia!, Chicago, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Jersey Boys, Phantom of the Opera, Rent, and Spring Awakening...One of my favorite non-musical shows I've seen here was Kristen Chenoweth in concert (the original Glinda from Wicked, and Pushing Daisies, GCB, etc.). So awesome. ...anyway, I've sat in all the different seats: orchestra near the front, rear orchestra, balcony front row, balcony boxes, and second grand tier. If you can, splurge on seats in the orchestra level (middle to front) for the best acoustics and views. The rear orchestra is fine if you care more for listening to the show or focusing on the bigger picture/staging than seeing the particular actor's faces so much. The balconies aren't stacked on top of the orchestra as far forward as in other theaters, but the box seats are roomier for sure. Be aware that the front row of the balconies does have a bar/railing to help people walk across, but can hinder the view of the stage once you're actually sitting down. The staff is pretty friendly and helpful with finding seating, will call tickets aren't a problem, and tickets by phone are easy too. For all the ladies out there, here's a tip. Instead of waiting forever in the lines for women's restrooms inside the Community Center Theater, make sure to bring your show ticket with you, exit the rear of the building and use the bathrooms at the adjacent Sacramento Convention Center Complex. Parking-wise, I usually use the Capitol Garage at 10th and L Streets and it never exceeds $5. I really wish that they had a marquee at the entrance to the theater along L Street instead of just in front of the Convention Center along J Street. They've improvised with banners across the building, or the parking the tour busses/bigrig trucks in front of the theater, with a few posters in the glass display cases in the lobby. The newer format of the seasons (fewer shows, shorter runs) isn't ideal, and there have been a few technical difficulties (mics and set pieces) but I am still a faithful patron. Sacramento has a "little sister" stigma because what city can measure up to San Francisco? SF is an amazing (and amazingly expensive) place, and as a Sacramento resident and theatergoer, sure SF shows are great too (you know you're in a pricey seat when the teeny old theaters have renovation fees included in the price and legroom is on par with coach airline rows, and the balconies already cost $50 minimum) but only once in awhile for my wallet/budget's sake. Go see a show at the Community Center Theater, at least once. 2013-2014's lineup (November-June) includes Priscilla, Buddy, Flashdance, Blue Man Group, Sister Act, and Wicked.
