It immediately sounded fishy (I Googled the phone number from which the text came and it was from an out of state number and I could not find anybody by a matching name that was connected with this mortgage company and location) so I reached out to the the specific loan agent to give him a heads up and he quickly replied that it was not a scam and he actually requested the associate reach out to me. I'm thinking they may have just needed busy work for somebody to go back into files and find contact information of somebody you spoke with 7 years ago who never even had a loan with your office.
