The museum was compact but nicely organized. Themes included the construction of the Flåm line, postal service, schooling, two original train cars used and a large model train display. During our travels we did not come across too many souvenir shops so we were very happy to be able to load up on our refrigerator magnets, t-shirt, pocketknife, etc. We felt the souvenirs were a tasteful selection and decently well made. The cashier warned us to ensure we place the pocketknife into checked luggage when flying and provided us with the VAT tax refund paperwork and receipt. The museum part is worth a walk through especially since it's free.

The juxtaposition of the museum's moderate tone (focused on population control, with little mention of clean energy innovation) with the leftist American documentary it shows (Chasing Ice -- worth a look on Netflix streaming) is stark. For instance, the museum emphasizes that global *cooling* killed the wooly mammoth. Maybe that's just calling balls and strikes but it seems like a conscious choice for a place of relatively few words. That said, the GHG orthodoxy would have more credibility if it was transparent about the fact the global warming, while rife with costs, also brings some benefits. In any event, the fake glacial cave you walk through is pretty sweet!

I've never been on the guided tour here, but just walking around enjoying the architecture and the mountainview around it is lovely. There's fields with sheep and lambs around and you get a proper view of the Norwegian cultural landscape as well. The giftshop also has a lot of interesting gifts and souvenirs!

Not having a GPS, I kept driving and driving and thought I had missed it, but it's out there! Just keep going until you see it right off the road. Parallel to the main road is a scenic route that is AMAZING! So much better than the main road. There are plenty of exits for the scenic route from the main route, so plan for another hour or two to allow yourself time to take the scenic route. It runs by rivers, deep gorges, and dark tunnels. The church itself is neat, but they charge you to enter the grounds! I believe admission includes entrance to the museum inside the visitor's center as well.

One thing to note is Google maps had trouble finding the museum, so I would follow the signs from town instead of Google maps. The Voss Folkemuseum has a lovely view of the nearby valley and features a collection of historical artifacts from Voss originating between the 16th and 20th centuries, a collection of woodworking tools, and 19th century farm buildings. There are placards in English and Norwegian for most of the objects and all of the descriptions of the buildings are in English. I was impressed with what I saw and would recommend the Voss Folkemuseum to those interested in local history.
