I've never been on the guided tour here, but just walking around enjoying the architecture and the mountainview around it is lovely. There's fields with sheep and lambs around and you get a proper view of the Norwegian cultural landscape as well. The giftshop also has a lot of interesting gifts and souvenirs!

Not having a GPS, I kept driving and driving and thought I had missed it, but it's out there! Just keep going until you see it right off the road. Parallel to the main road is a scenic route that is AMAZING! So much better than the main road. There are plenty of exits for the scenic route from the main route, so plan for another hour or two to allow yourself time to take the scenic route. It runs by rivers, deep gorges, and dark tunnels. The church itself is neat, but they charge you to enter the grounds! I believe admission includes entrance to the museum inside the visitor's center as well.

One thing to note is Google maps had trouble finding the museum, so I would follow the signs from town instead of Google maps. The Voss Folkemuseum has a lovely view of the nearby valley and features a collection of historical artifacts from Voss originating between the 16th and 20th centuries, a collection of woodworking tools, and 19th century farm buildings. There are placards in English and Norwegian for most of the objects and all of the descriptions of the buildings are in English. I was impressed with what I saw and would recommend the Voss Folkemuseum to those interested in local history.

They have beautiful merchandise and many gorgeous woolen sweaters, including those they supply the Norwegian Olympic team with, at a discounted rate ranging from 20-70% off. While some are around 5000NOK, you can find good deals for less. I found lovely scarves for 1000NO@ K. I, however, purchased nothing because the retail clerk was tremendously unwelcoming. While she was disinclined to provide basic customer service, she did follow us around, which was quite uncomfortable. The merchandise is 5 stars, lack of factory tours for individuals (even for a fee) reduced it to 4 stars. The clerk's treatment (1 star) reduced the overall experience to a 3, and also meant that this business lost two customers.

You are kinda dealing with luck of the draw here. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We didn't have time to visit their museum though. Again - if your heart is absolutely set on gaining a Dale of Norway sweater then you will find it here -- and you may get a darn good deal from the discount section!! There is just no way to know if you will find your preferred style and size here at a discount!
