Best place in Hanalei to rent a paddle board or a surfboard. We checked several other spots first,…read moreand everywhere else either had much higher prices or a bunch of restrictions and hidden fees (like charging $100 just to put a board on your car roof). None of that here. They have very reasonable prices, good-quality boards, and the staff helps you choose the right size board and paddle. We paid only $30 per person for a half-day SUP rental and $25 for a full day surfboard rental, which is a great deal for this area. One thing I'd recommend though - double-check that the staff actually secures the rope when they strap the boards to your car. The employee didn't want our help, but a few minutes into the drive the boards started coming loose. Luckily, we had a Jeep Wrangler with an open roof, so we were able to hold them. Turned out the ropes weren't even properly tied, just kinda thrown on. Hopefully this was just a one-off, especially since they do keep your card on file in case anything happens to the boards. Overall though best prices and conditions in town. Definately recommend!

Their prices were better also and they give you a ton of tips and tricks. They gave us a map and told us how to get to the rock jump after the waterfall. We noticed none of the guided tours were going that way so if we hadn't gone to Scotty's we never would have had the amazing opportunity to jump off a rock jump as a family. They also have an after hours drop off which meant we weren't on a time constraint which was great since we have kids who get tired kayaking. I wish I could give them 6 stars instead of 5 because the service was so top notch and we had not had that good of service anywhere else on Kaua'i!

Just got back from a 2 week Christmas/New Year trip to Kauai with my family. My dad decided it was…read moretime for my sisters and him to try surfing for the first time. We booked out surfing lesson before we left CA, but ended up switching the day (which they were fine with). Drew was our instructor and he was very helpful and patient with us, he also said that he's able to get everyone to stand up on the board (which turned out to be true for all of us!). Hanalei was a great place to learn because the beach is shallow and the waves weren't too big. I had a great time and would definitely recommend surf lessons through Kauai North Shore Surfing School, especially with Drew. The lesson was $60 a person, 4 people per lesson, and lasted for 2 hrs, definitely plenty of time to get up on a wave. We had so much fun we decided to book stand up paddle board lessons with Drew a few days later. It was at 8am (less wind) and consisted of a quick lesson, paddle boarding on a river (beautiful) and then Drew took us out on the ocean for a the end (it was pretty hilarious when all of us fell off once the water wasn't flat). All in all it made for a great time and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that wants to try surfing in a beautiful and friendly environment.

This place is not well advertised, so we are very glad the blue guidebook pointed us in their…read moredirection. First off, they charge the least of anyone we could find on the island: $40 per person for a 90 minute session. This is usually 15 minutes of beach instruction and another 75 minutes in the water. They then let you use the boards on your own to keep practicing. Our main instructor, Nephi, was a great guy who seemed to genuinely want us to be able to surf. They are not tied to one particular place on the island, but instead go wherever the weather and surf will be perfect for learning. That means that they could be in Poi'pu one week, Waimea the next, and Princeville after that. You just have to call to find out if they are booked and where they will be. Have cash or a check ready, no plastic for these beach bums. They provide everything else you need, except your swimsuit... They have the boards and surf shirts to help prevent skin rash and keep you warm. On that note, it is suggested that women wear board shorts to keep their upper thighs from getting rashed when moving or pushing up on the board. We both managed to stand up and surf multiple times during our first ever attempt at surfing! We highly recommend this group.
