I was curious to try this place after reading all of the mixed reviews. When you walk in the restaurant is on the left and the bar is on the right. Even though there's a sign that says to order at the bar, the bartender told us we could sit anywhere and there were menus on the table. There's also a big board that explains everything, so apparently they've improved on this since they opened. Our server was really nice and even gave me the lunch special even though it was past lunch time. My daughter had the walking taco which was huge and filling. I had the two taco special with rice, black beans and steak...actually the best steak tacos I've ever had. Really. They were tender and seasoned really well and the tortillas were delicious too. Fresh, soft and warm. The aromas in the place let you know that it should be good. We had two drinks and our bill was around $36. We really enjoyed and would definitely return. read more

I was hoping this was a good find as it's located in a prime area. We stopped in here and I was disappointed to see staff were sitting at the bar alongside eating their food and going back and forth between eating and serving. The food was decent. Stopped by walking through downtown Lake Geneva & had the most amazing service. I can't speak for their food but strawberry margarita was delicious (better than the mango). I tried Guac Star for the first time tonight for dinner. The food was pretty good, I was able to try 2 different quesadillas- the chorizo and the steak. The steak had a nice flavor to it. The decor inside the restaurant was pretty cool too and our waiter was friendly. I only subtract a star because it does seem pretty expensive for what you get - for $15 a quesadilla plate, I was expecting rice and beans as well, but sadly they are not included. It's a cute little Mexican spot with great food. We did not expect the food to be so good honestly. The menu is small but the meat is quality. My husband ordered a steak burrito and I had a burrito bowl and I normally hate black beans but I have no idea what they put on them but they were absolutely delicious. The guac was one of the best I've ever tasted, so fresh and delicious. My husband had the King size burrito stuffed with chicken, beans, rice, guac, sore cream and jalapeño. The quality of meat was very good (chicken) I believe the waitress said that it was "farm fresh." I think guac, salsa, and chips for $16 is quite the price to pay. I did the guac and chips, I needed to add some salt to the guac but it was very fresh as well. I thought the finely diced jalapeños on the side added a nice touch to my burrito as well. Customer service by the waiter could be improved upon, involving listening skills...he asked if we wanted a "pitcher" of water (there were 4 of us & we all wanted water) to which I said yes...but instead were brought cups. Hands down one of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to. I got the steak tacos and let me tell you pictures do not do justice. I came here with my bf and our friends and we were in such a bad mood a couple weeks ago because we could not find a place to eat. We sat somewhere previously for 40 minutes and did not get served. The staff was out of this world. Our server Ariana was so nice and and came in to check on us multiple times. One lady was walking around with fun straws and kept filling up our waters. Another guy working there came and brought us hot sauce which was amazing. I truly felt like a princess by all the staff waiting on my friends and I. The hot sauce was so good that my friend and I needed up buying a bottle I got the last one but the guy who was so nice enough to introduce us to the hot sauce let my friend buy the one that was already open. We live in Chicago so it was a treat to take this hot sauce home. The music they had playing was also so good! It was a wide variety of songs. We first ate here on a fundraising event and the food was quite good. Came again tonight and we both ordered the steak burritos and the chips and guacamole. The guacamole is homemade and excellent with very good chips. Our server suggested getting the burrito "crispy" which was no small change. Much better than the warmed up tortillas you usually get. We just happened across this jem. Highly recommend the steak tacos with cilantro and onion on corn. Meat is locally sourced from a butcher! Had the steak and the beef tacos and the steak just beat it out. The frozen margaritas are made using wine and are done with perfection. I am coming back and coming back soon. I was incredibly disappointed by my experience here, especially the service. I walked in with my family with nobody saying anything to us about seating. So I asked about seating and they said "one of us will come to you" and we proceeded to wait a few minutes when there were several tables available. The person who took our order could really use some additional training because ordering food with her was an awkward experience. She wasn't explaining anything when we asked. My mom who doesn't know what pico is asked her what pico is and she just looked at her and said "pico de gallo". That's not a description. Also, we asked if she could make a piña colada without alcohol and she abruptly said no. Ok that's fine but please say "it comes prepared already with alcohol" instead of a flat out no. I had asked someone else, which is how I knew it wasn't made fresh at the bar. The drink tasted fine. Additionally, she poorly asked what we want in a burrito and when we asked more details about it she had responded quite rudely saying nothing comes in the burrito but didn't proceed to give us options or point anything out in the menu. I also witnessed her being very rude to other people. There's an iPad near a sign that says "order" which looks like you would be able to order by yourself. A group of people started touching the iPad and she jumped at them for touching it. To be honest, the placement of the ORDER sign being under the iPad is very misleading. When we asked for salsa with our chips, the server gave us passive aggressive attitude and charged us $6 for it. Pricing is ridiculous. Everything is outrageously expensive. The most horrible margaritas I've ever had in my life, it's just frozen Kool-Aid with tequila. I am very sad and disappointed.

Waitress was rude. Food was mediocre. Don't ask to make your tacos Mexican style. They come out quite blande. The regular tacos are relatively better. I've had the burritos, chips, guacamole,salsa, horchata, and rice and beans over the last several visits. Food is very consistent, which is great because it is all AMAZING!! The burritos are filled with ingredients that each have their own great flavor and when combined is fabulous. The salsa hits so nice the second it touches your tongue. I have honestly never had such good Mexican food and so so happy to learn it's always consistent with each visit. The discussion over the meals are always about how crazy good the food is! $68 for 2 burritos and 2 "margaritas" is absolutely ridiculous! We briefly looked over the menu then sat outside to put in our order. We had a full conversation with the guy because we thought all the topping were extra. He kept saying no, they are all included. So I said, ok I want whatever is included, nothing extra. Same with my partner. And we order margaritas, which came out as margarita mix over a few ice cubes in a small cup, maybe 8 or 12 ozs. Literally just mix, no alcohol! We were charged $12 each for these?!?!?! The burritos came out and were ok, I thought the steak was pretty grizzly. We got the bill and was flabbergasted! Went inside and asked because we literally thought we got someone else's bill! Nope, that was ours. Everything the waiter told us was included, was not. So the couple of spoonfuls of rice and beans that was put on the burritos was an extra $5 each-which we would not have ordered if it was extra! I hope this review helps others. We think 1 star is too nice. Will not be going back and already telling others of our experience. Me and two of my friends were kicked out for "fake I.D's". We were visiting from IL and maybe they don't know how they look, but that is besides the point. We weren't sure if this server was kidding so it was a very awkward minute of him saying "you could leave". Then he threatens to break my one friends I.D.. For a restaurant that has a limited white ass menu, they need to chill. I think the guy got scared when I pronounced Paloma correctly. A group of Hispanic men were also being kicked out for the same reason. Not sure what the vibes are at this place, but it's not looking good. I spoke with the "owner" and I explained to him what happened, he apologized and checked our I.D's and he verified and said that they were not fake. Popped in to Guac Star after hearing how great it was from so many...it did not disappoint!! Easy menu...tacos, burritos or quesadillas...rice and beans...guacamole...cocktails. Guac was fresh and extremely tasty and the chips were airy and lightly salted which I appreciate as not a big salt person! Ground beef tacos and steak tacos were our choice and they too did not disappoint. Owner, Kevin provided remarkable service all while filling us in on everything going on with his restaurant as well as the goings on in LG. Restaurant was very clean and inviting.
