GU is the sister brand to UNIQLO & this SoHo store location is the first flagship store to open outside of Asia, in 2024! When I first walked in, I was like oh, this is right up my alley & reminds me of Uniqlo. Ended up finding out after leaving the store that they are related lol. Prices were actually even cheaper than Uniqlo's, many clothes were the absolute same but had even friendlier price tags! This store is HUGE. Women's clothing upstairs/main floor, while men's clothing was downstairs. Can check out upstairs or downstairs & they have the same self checkout process as Uniqlo. Hope we get one of these back home, since Uniqlo has been opening everywhere already! GU is the sister store, yes i didn't know initially when we walked in but noticed and commented on the uncanny likeness to Uniqlo from advertisements in store to price tags and checkout kiosk / store design layout. It pretty much had similar stylings (with a bit of differences like on their cotton tees etc) but pricing was comparable, to when Uniqlo runs a sale on an item, its regular pricing here. The store is two floors, staff overall was nice, the manager lady is a bit aggressive lol. They were nice to allow many of us to hide out in here for a bit when the rain storm turned to all out monsoon season. (Our second time in the store in a week). Was actually looking for rain jacket or poncho jackets but no luck that day. Nice clean store, well organized, nearly folded and hung garments. Definitely shop here again, hope they open back home! read more

I prefer the GU locations in Japan. They have more of a diverse variety to pick from and lots of street fashion options. This location had a lot of basics, if I wanted that I would just to to Uniqlo nearby lol read more

TLDR: Long awaited but not disappointed. This is Uniqlo's "urban chic" younger sister clothing store. First clothing store review and well deserved! They had a pop up for a few years now and I had a fear that that would be the official store. This one is way better. Style: GU is the sister store of Uniqlo. However many may be put off by Uniqlo's more structured, tailored, monochrome, basic essential pieces. GU brings a little more spice - it has more of an urban chic vibe. Quite literally what you're cooler younger sister would wear without being too on the nose of fashion trends. It has an accent on fashion trends without it looking like other cheapish brands and with the quality and accent of uniqueness that is also affordable. Location: Heart of Soho which is heavy foot traffic. Maybe because the store is new but there were thankfully not many people in there compared to their mega sister store always being crazy busy. However their selection is smaller than uniqlo so be prepared to perhaps find more online. Service: Didn't really have a need for them but they seemed like a friendly staff and were willing to help! I decided to check out GU since I heard it was Uniqlo's sister brand, and Uniqlo is one of my favorite stores. As of now, you can only buy clothes from the physical GU store. The Instagram page (@gu_usa_official) is how you can find out what promotions are going on. GU has a similar vibe to Uniqlo, but the clothes are cheaper and slightly lower quality. Mostly basics and some accessories. The clothes are still of decent quality though! The inside is more cramped, like a typical NYC store, compared to the massive Uniqlo locations nearby. I didn't like how the fitting rooms and checkout lines were right next to each other, which caused confusion and congestion. Also, because of the space constraints, the product layouts and corresponding price labels were confusing. For example, there would be a couple style of pants in the same vicinity, but the location of the price label was unclear as to which style it assigned to. All in all, while I do prefer Uniqlo, GU is still worth checking out, especially if you are in the market for more affordable options. read more

I've visited with my friends two or three times, and it's always an interesting experience. The store space is pretty cramped, making it quite challenging to navigate, especially when it gets crowded. However, GU is known for being cheaper than Uniqlo. I've heard from a friend that the quality isn't as good as Uniqlo's, though I can't personally confirm this. There are usually some fantastic deals to be found. I snagged a few pairs of cargo pants for just $10 each, and they've become my go-to pants. Despite frequent use, they're still in excellent condition. Overall, GU is super affordable and definitely worth checking out if you're looking for budget-friendly fashion. I'm a fan of Uniqlo. Decent clothes without all the name brand fuss. Just down to earth comfortable clothes. It's the sister brand to Uniqlo, so the size, fit and style are in line with what I expected. Was excited to be able to come check it out. The place was busy despite the cold weather. It's not a huge store. There is a men's section downstairs. Lots of people coming in and out. Long lines to the fitting room. There were a few things I wanted to get but managed to talk myself out of it. At the moment there are a few things Harry Potter themed or Japanese cartoon related. Shopped at a GU in Tokyo and was excited that they open one on Broadway in SoHo but I find this location a tad bit small. They are a Japanese fashion brand and a sister of Uniqlo. Even though it's small in space, they carry a lot of nice, hip, and modern clothes for mostly young people. Many tanks, tees, jeans, shorts, and many cargos in this shop. I came here to get a pair of Jean shorts and saw that it was on sale at $19.95 so I decided it was worth it to get a pair. They carried blue jeans, black, and white colors but the problem is that they are high waist so I had to opt for one size bigger than my original size since I had a large gut! I went for a black pair and in large and it fit pretty well in the waist but not so much in my butt and thighs, which was pretty loose. The time I went, I didn't see any mid or low waist jean shorts that I wanted to try. They also have some crop tops that were on sale but they were too short for my taste. read more

I had no idea until I was told by the employee...just want to save others from some mild embarrassment Pros: Cheaper than Uniqlo Trendier pieces rather than the elevated basics Cons: Definitely has a fast fashion feel and the quality doesn't feel the same as Uniqlo Fit is a bit off compared to Uniqlo Neutral - younger skewing...while the simple, basic stuff felt normal for me to try on as someone in their 30s, I definitely felt "how do you do, fellow kids?" about the trendier pieces. It's neither a pro or a con but that may be important for some people to note if you're thinking you're just getting a cheaper Uniqlo. This is a sister store of Uniqlo. It is quite small compared to typical Uniqlo. I was told they are known in Japan. This is the first location in NYC. Their clothes are similar to Uniqlo's, plain and simple design. Their materials are quite similar as well. I feel like GU style is more for casual/basic style compared to Uniqlo where it feels more mixed style from graphic-T to business casual-like. It just feels different. I only bought one item so far. The prices are reasonable. It is slightly cheaper than Uniqlo. I do wish they took a Uniqlo gift card since they are a sister store. Unfortunately, they said they don't take Uniqlo gift cards. GU, sister company to Uniqlo just recently opened in soho right near the Broadway Lafayette train stop. One of my good friends recommended me to check it out because he felt like it would fit my style. I'm super impressed with the prices, quality and service. I came on a good day so it wasn't crowded and the workers were super friendly. I ended up getting 3 skorts , 1 Jean, 1 cargo pant and 2 tops. They have a lot of basics here as well as dressier items. The prices here are great! I bought a shoulder bag here and it feels just like the one from Uniqlo, except it was cheaper. They have a nice selection of clothes, with a bunch on sale. The workers here were really friendly and welcoming. The store is a bit on the smaller side though, which made it feel cramped. This was more noticeable because I went during a peak time. There were signs saying that they were moving to a different location, so I hope it will be bigger. I'll definitely be back to check out the new location when it opens! read more
