Yayyy!!!!! I'm the first foreigner...the first brother and first American to review Angie's…read moreNightclub on Yelp!!! This is a happening club joint in the beautiful and friendly city of Hamburg. I went here early last year on recommendation of a friend in Germany and had a great time! Good staff, food, drinks, and live music and lively people. Locals and foreigners alike should check this place out especially upcoming bands. Next time that I am in Hamburg at this club, I will not be in the audience, but I hope to be performing here! Wink! Wink club management! Check my profile at www.soncibids.com/Gprosperous More music to come!!

I had heard many a thing about this club, but my main intrigue was that it's housed in an old…read morebunker. The bunker itself is a massive block of dark concrete, towering over the whole area like something out of a horror flick. Walking up, you have to stand in line for a bit and are taken up in an elevator to the club. I thought the layout was great, but was a tad disappointed at the underusage of space. I just saw the main room, the side smoking room...but that seemed to be about it? I had been looking forward to a much larger venue with more corners to explore. Went to Kompakt Nacht and saw part of it, unfortunately I decided on a full bottle of wine before going out and took the high road and went home early before getting myself into any more trouble. Overall, vibe was great, drinks were decent and crowd was there to dance -- which was my favorite part.

Really cool spot for a club-- old WW2 bunker. I went for a pop music event and got there about half…read morean hour after the start time. That seemed to be a pretty normal time to arrive, as there was a line from the door to the street, but we were let in in groups fairly quickly (within 20 minutes). They will check your bag, but will not pat you down. There are four long flights of stairs to get up as well! So think ahead if you have physical disabilities. At the start of the night, the line for the coat check was absolutely huge. I would recommend dancing/waiting with your coat/bag for a while if you can and coming back to the coat check further into the event, as the line will be shorter and quicker. It was €2 to check a coat or bag- if you want to check both you have to pay €4. The people working the coat check are definitely some of the rudest people I've seen as club employees anywhere, but just roll with it. Avoid the young woman with dark hair and a septum ring if you can at the coat check- she has no patience for anyone who hasn't been there before and will roll her eyes and push your stuff back at you aggressively if you put it on the counter too fast. There were 2 different bars, so you could usually get a drink pretty quickly. Prices on the drink card aren't what you'll pay! I have no idea why. (Ex: tequila shots are listed as €5 each, but I paid €6 for 2.) This might be a European thing (coming from an American) but people really like their personal space at this club. Bumping into other people repeatedly will get you annoyed/strange looks, and it's definitely not a body to body, shoulder to shoulder type of place.

Very bizarre place, this is. We went to see Ladytron here last night (see separate review) and were…read moreonly allowed into the concert hall a full 40 minutes after doors open. Sound was horrible throughout the night and the 40 minute intermission between warm-up band and main act was almost unbearable (I don't have anything against Johnny Cash, but 40 minutes of him straight through during the wait for an electro concert?). I'm not sure I'd want to come back here to see a concert. I was disappointed by the setup and the way the evening was logistically handled.

Honestly, I don't know if I'm used to everything being so expensive in San Francisco but I found this place to be incredibly inexpensive. I saw a concert and had a drink for less than €25. My import beer was €4. That is just insanely cheap. How are they making money? I nursed my one beer for fear of having to go to the bathroom and missing out on ANYTHING. I was upstairs in the beautiful but small concert area and wasn't about to lose my spot near the stage. And then the concert started and then I died. Surrounded by a bunch of sort-of-likeminded fans, it was a great place to feel like, "OMG. Can anyone actually survive from being this happy?!" By the nights end, some lovely gal finally convinced me to put my coat back on before going outside and probably actually freezing to death. Could I really freeze to death, though? When one is so overly blissed out from chatting with Matthew Mole, the best singer in the whole entire world, who is super entirely nice, and omg, so sweet, and wonderful, and amazing, and is so worth everything it took to get here... oh, my heart. How the Prinzebar was able to contain all of this is beyond me. The guy at the coat check counter was also super lovely. Great intimate venue, insanely cheap prices, and filled with tons of really amazing feelings. Swoon!

There was a crowd at the door but it was definitely moving, but slowly. When I got to the front I gave the doorman my ID and he was like... "NO I can't accept this as a form of ID. Do you have papers?" I've NEVER had a problem with my CA driver's license EVER anywhere I've been and I knew he was just giving me a hard time. Luckily I was with German speaking people and one girl behind me in line stood up for me and argued with him and I was let in. I paid the 6EU entrance fee and 2EU coat check and was ready to party! Drinks were pretty cheap! 2 EU for shots, but my friend had already told me that coke and other backs were charged separately in Germany so I just had lots of shots. There were two dance floors- the main one is a pretty small one that you can step down into in front of the DJ booth. There were places to dance all around it and I saw both guys and girls dancing on the elevated areas. There were also plenty of tables all around this room. Overall-I would say the dance floor was small, but I thin it's considered pretty big for Germany. Downstairs, there are the bathrooms and the hip hop room. There's two separate bars down there and they were spinning hip hop all night. It was pretty good except for all that smoke... but hey, it's Europe and they smoke EVERYWHERE. Overall I had a pretty awesome time dancing the night away even though the night started off not so great.

The music was just awful - and when occasionally a good tune did come on it was immediately taken off within seconds with perverse DJ intent, straight back to the formulaic dreary re-runs of wedding disco classics. In fact, I love those DJs compared to Moondoo. The atmosphere was basic suburban corporate club - without the kookiness, interesting people and involving music. The drinks were average. The girl on the door was pretty. My Hamburg friend seemed to like it, but he's gay and was downstairs (marginally better music) cruising around. Somebody tell me where in Hamburg they play dance music that makes people happy, please?
