I think it's a solid three, mainly because of its proximity to the beach, and the really good Sauvignon Blanc that was two dollars off for the 6 ounce pour. The food was interesting, the kids portion of the pasta and sauce was huge, and definitely not enough sauce, but our kiddo seemed to like it. The steak sandwich was interesting because it was not a steak sandwich like you would expect, but rather a piece of steak between a short baguette. The salmon and shrimp, rice and veggie dish was interesting, because there was no flavor at all, and there was no sauce. So it was a very bland dish, but did feel rather healthy. The fish and chips came with a nice rack of frites, which were delicious, however, the fish was just OK. The garlic baguette was tasty as well. Ultimately our meal was ruined by the amount of flies that were attacking the table, and we thought perhaps we were an anomaly, however, the table behind us was also experiencing the same issue. Both servers, while nice, made the point that they were sorry, but this is how it is. Would not recommend for the flies alone. read more

There are only two reasons why people leave unfinished food and drink at the table, there was too much or it was not very good. Unfortunately this place is the latter of that two and there was a lot of left food on many tables when I was there both times. Was ok but not that great for the food. This a place you go to get drunk and look at the beach (and things at the beach). Staff is very friendly and cheerful. Food is cheap and... ok.. barely. Fries are good. If you just want to get drunk, this might be the place. If you want to relax with the family... not so much. read more

Great location and view of the water. Huge patio is great for groups, but you should definitely make a reservation! The food is OK. Not bad, but not great. It's just standard pub fare. My group loved the fishbowl drinks. Reasonable pricing and specials. Service was slow, but they didn't forget about you. You definitely go there for the view! read more

Food was good and came in large portions that we had to take out the leftovers. Service was really friendly and quick as well. The beer pints tasted watered down in comparison to the bottles. We've been here a few times and it is always solid. They have a great patio/deck. Any seat in the house has a nice view of the beach so you won't miss out on the action. Food selection is really good. On our last visit I has the Halibut Sandwich and it was very good!! The ONLY reason I gave them 4 stars and not 5...NO POUTINE?!?!!?!? WTF?! No gravy for fries?! We stopped here to grab some dinner with a friend from Grand Bend and it was the closest to the beach. It's your basic bar/restaurant but with inflated prices because of the location. The sangria I had was amazing. I will give them a 5/5 there. I could easily drink a few of those. However, they were pretty expensive. The food in the other hand was mediocre at absolute best. My burger was a bit too well done and lacked flavour or moisture. My fiancé said the same thing about his food. The final thing that stood out to me was how miserable the staff were. I understand it's probably always slammed with tourists but even a half smile goes a long way. The hostesses frequently rolled their eyes behind patrons backs and just seemed unimpressed with working there. Overall it was okay if you're in a pinch for food. But I'm sure there are better places to eat. read more

Extremely underwhelmed. The location and style of this bar is pretty cool but that's about as far as I'll go with that. The food is sub par. I ordered a Cobb salad with a salmon "filet" for an extra $5.95 and what came out was a bunch of lettuce, 3/4s of a tomato, and what appeared to be a piece of "salmon" that really looked like one you could buy in the frozen food section labeled as "salmon burger". It was dry, flavourless, and I'm currently having some serious stomach issues. The service was ok-ish. The server never came to check on us until we were done eating and by that point it was too late to ask for more than the 1oz cup of dressing I had got to help eat the rest of the lettuce with. I'm not convinced that I'll be back...as much as I love the spot in general. read more

Well we were very disappointed and won't be back. My shrimp linguine was so tasteless just linguini onion and tomatoes. This meal should have some seasoning They even left the tails on the shrimp and I had to take them which was hot on the fingers. My husband ordered the sirloin it was 5 inches long x 1/4 thick old and gray looked very freezer burnt. Not worth the money. I hope this review helps you change a few things. We were a group of 5, they sat us at a table for four. It was a dirty table, still had dirty dishes on it and had clearly not been cleaned. The hostesses were not friendly. The water served in a pitcher was like warm with no ice. A server walked by a spilt some alcohol on us. The chicken tenders were tasteless. They took our ketchup mid dinner for another table and told us they'd bring us another, they didn't. Overall not a good experience. read more

I love eating here. The view is beautiful , right in front of the beach, the view of the gorgeous blue water and the sea of beach umbrellas. They have plenty of table umbrellas to keep the sun at bay while you eat. The line seemed long but we were seated in about 20 minutes. Not bad for a long weekend in Grand Bend. The place was hopping but we had service almost immediately, the staff were all friendly , from the hostess who took our name to the person seating us and then a very friendly and very competent waitress. My Caesar drink was delicious. Just enough of Clamato juice to compliment the vodka , oh, and lots of ice. Yum! I had the grilled chicken fajita with the salad. The fajita was very good, served nice and hot and the salad was made with fresh greens, tomatoes , red onion and cucumber with a balsamic dressing on the side. Very tasty and fresh. But as for the piece de resistance , its their poutine...soooo good, so good. This is my not my first time eating here nor will it be the last. Always a very pleasant experience. read more

Solid choice with no complaints. It was our first time at Grand Bend and we didn't venture far beyond the beach/touristy area very much. The food, drinks, and location just worked - I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it, but once you're sunburned, tired, and hungry, Growling Gator is the way to go. My girlfriend really loved the Sangria. My beer was icy cold. Our burgers were pretty on point. And the seating was nicely covered by shade, too. I have to admit I was a little curious about my beef patty - it was deceptively soft and juicy. If mixed in-house, props! If ordered frozen - keep ordering from those guys! read more

Not gourmet but consistently good bar food. We vacation in GB every year and this is really the only place to eat that is not too pricey. My family swears that the Haliburger is the best fried fish sandwich they have ever taste! The salads are fresh and a nice change from the soggy fresh cut fries that are served all over GB (they must be popular, but I think they are gross!). I am sad that the lumberjack and canadian club were taken off the menu this year (I love canadian bacon) and the red pepper hummus that used to be so good is now chunky and flavorless - get the spinach/artichoke dip instead. 13 guys rode our bikes to the Gator last night. We were seated outside to start. The owner Sam came around and told us it was going to rain and he had room under the covered patio. First time at the restaurant and Grand Bend. We had the chicken parmesan that was so dry I had to order a extra tomatoe sauce which arrived in an ounce container. I was not advised there would be an additional charge. Was charged a dollar for each little cup - I guess my $175 bill wasn't enough! Came here after camping at pinery provincial park with a couple of friends and it is a nice place if u want to come for some drinks. Server came fast with our drinks. But when we ordered our food it took wayyy to long. And then when the food came out it was all cold. We even saw people that came in after us get their food first!! . And then when we got the bill the server didn't even know how to split the bill!
