We are a family owned and operated business specializing in Natural Beekeeping and Quality Assembled Woodenware. Our business is located in the small, quiet community of Bon Aqua, Tennessee. For years our family has enjoyed working with wood, gardening, outdoors and creation. When these hobbies intersected Trevor and his wife Amy became beekeepers and members of the Nashville Area Beekeepers Association. Trevor mentored under his friend John Seaborn whose family has been beekeepers for over 100 years. You might say that from this, one thing lead to another. After beekeeping for some time our family decided to begin sharing with others what we were learning as well as making quality assembled woodenware at a reasonable price. Our goal is not to just sell a good product, but to educate beekeepers so that they will be successful as well as understand the vital role that honeybees play in agriculture. Trevor now enjoys traveling and lecturing to Beekeeping Associations, Lawn and Garden Clubs and Shows, and different county agriculture groups throughout Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Illinois, Florida and Alabama. We spend hours on the phone aiding beekeepers all over the United States and as far away as Germany and Canada.

Everything I saw was healthy and well cared for. There is so much that it takes a while to choose! Friendly staff, tons to choose from, healthy plants. As Arnold said, 'I'll be back!'

I'm never in this part of town so 'getting' to drive here was a pleasure. I love that I am still…read moreable to 'discover' Nashville these [redacted] years later. And it was doubly exciting because I very rarely ever shop at a nursery or go in search of one. This was one for the ages. It may not be the first place that comes to mind when holiday shopping but I had the idea of gifting a series of flowers that align with birth months, anniversaries and special memories as gifts. Think of it as 'art' that lives in your yard. But that's about all I had figured out. Luckily, the folks at Bates took care of the rest. First things first, the place is large. It's not overwhelmingly so (so, not Opryland) but it's big enough that if you don't know what you're doing or what you're looking for, you're going to be the Sims character who just spins. Not being shy about my lack of clues, I walked up to the desk and said what I was trying to do/buy and I didn't know what else to do after that. After being complimented about my thoughtfulness, I was tag-teamed: I was given directions to find a specific person to talk to about flowers and another about shrubbery. Given that you will actually be walking through distinct areas/zones, I was given landmarks to note. I appreciated all of this. I was a fish out of water and every instruction was a sign of kindness. I found my first contact (who had been given a heads up by walkie talkie) and she was awesome. She was so awesome that I just went all in with flowers and forgot the shrubs. She explained zones, planting times, soil, perennials vs annuals, etc. I took notes (seriously). And then she started walking me through the selection. Bates.Has.Everything. They do. Don't ask. Just trust. And a side effect of having everything is fair pricing. They have everything and they have a lot of it so you aren't on the hook to spend a lot due to scarcity. I left the nursery with a bit of an education, plants that mean something to the recipients and continue to adorn yards, money in my pocket for other gifts, and a good feeling from shopping local and supporting a business that's been around for almost 100 years. There are so many cool businesses to discover on Yelp outside of food and drink. Dig in, explore and patronize what makes your metro unique.

Selected a beautiful array and gave all the pertinent information on the website. To my dismay, she didn't receive any flowers. Yes, they had cancelled them, and notified me by email (I don't look at my email every day). I called today to understand better "why" they didn't fulfill my order. He first asked WHY didn't I call a closer florist. I redirected his attention to my order with Holman. He then stated, "oh, she didn't get flowers and now you're mad at me." "We ONLY service hospitals and funeral homes." I stated, "you should put that on your website." He further stated, "she lives on the other side of town and they couldn't deliver them that day." The florist left the fresh cut arrangement on my front porch and it was 83 degrees at the time! Who does that? Holman Florist does! I did receive a text at 6:37 advising that the flowers were left on my porch. I don't understand who would think this was the correct way to deliver fresh flowers. I have ordered from them before but after this experience I wouldn't ever think of ordering from them again. Flowers are expensive and now I cannot trust what they would deliver! I hope everyone in town sees how this florist treats their customers! It would break my friend's heart to know what Holman Florist has done!
