I was very skeptical of talk therapy - this wasn't something I really wanted to do! But it seemed apparent I needed to try something new and I'm laughing now at my stubbornness. Marina has been a wonderful listener, and although sometimes just that sounding board is enough, she is **much, much** more than that. I feel motivated, challenged, and inspired by our sessions. She's given me new perspectives and ideas that I hadn't considered before. She isn't afraid to give me honest direct feedback that challenges me, but she delivers it gently enough to help me hear the message. That is what has been the most helpful, knowing and trusting that she's going to engage with me on such an honest level, regardless of how she thinks I may feel or react. She is a fun problem solver and super creative. Lastly, I'm excited to start bringing my husband to a few sessions with me. She's highly trained in the Gottman method of couples therapy/marriage counseling and I feel very confident this will be a game-changer in our relationship, just as our one-on-one therapy has been a game-changer in my personal life.

I cannot overstate the impact Marina has had on my life. What sets Marina apart is that she doesn't just listen with deep compassion--she provides real, practical tools that help you navigate life and solve problems in meaningful, lasting ways. Her guidance is thoughtful, grounded, and immediately usable. I leave sessions not only feeling heard and supported, but equipped with strategies I can apply in my day-to-day life. Marina has a rare ability to balance empathy with clarity, and I always feel respected and never judged. Working with Marina has been truly life-changing, and I am deeply grateful for her support--and for the care and skill she brings to this work.

My review is long overdue:…read more I was attending a DV program in LA County for several months, then started a new job In Ventura County which conflicted with my weekly class schedule. I searched and found Westlake Village Family Services. I explained to Dr Kaufman that I completed a certain amount of classes and didn't want to lose the credit. From the get go he was extremely helpful, explained the classes are in the evenings and conducted by his wife Rhonda, forwarded me all the paperwork so I can continue my DV classes that same week. I really looked forward to Rhonda's classes , I appreciated the fact that she took time to ask each of us how our week has been, asked us about any updates with our cases that we wanted to share, and all the ladies in the class were so welcoming. It really felt good to have a safe place to talk about all the unfortunate things that were going on, when I couldn't discuss them with my friends or family. Each class she did exercises with us that helped me gained a lot of insight. I was also court ordered to do individual therapy and asked Dr Kaufman if he had any availability which luckily he did. Dr Kaufman is truly one of a kind because he is invested in his clients success. For almost two years he has helped me tremendously with my DCFS case always listened, guided me, helped me stay positive, and truly wanted me get my son back. Even when my case was getting complicated he reminded how far I came to getting my son back. He is extremely knowledgeable and helps you see things from different perspectives. I can't recommend Dr Kaufman and Rhonda enough to anyone who needs to do DV classes or needs individual therapy. Both of them truly care about each and every persons success.

Three years ago I had a life altering experience witch left me in need of real therapy and I needed to make a change. A little over a year later I found Paul by recommendation. There is no other way to put it, THIS MAN knows what he is doing. He is unlike any therapist I have encountered and has literally CHANGED my life. Honestly, if everyone had a "Paul", this world would be a lot better. I cant stress enough how worth the time it is to meet him if you are considering therapy and want to make real changes in your life... especially if you have done therapy before and are thinking about giving up.. DONT. See Paul. It may change your whole perspective on everything. ;)

It's hard to put into words all that has changed. I simply have a new perspective. I'm far better and understanding my part in things. His words just seem to stick with me. So unexpected. I'm so grateful.

The phrase "life changing" gets thrown around so often that it loses the weight of its meaning, but…read moreJo Ellen's counseling has not only changed my life in a very noticeable way, but has also given me a new way of thinking. A little over a year ago I had given up on life completely. The end of my long term relationship with my fiancé, legal troubles, bankruptcy, ongoing PTSD from decade old events, panic attacks, substance use dependence, the list went on and on. I had become completely unrecognizable. I could not see a way out anymore and living this way was too excruciating. After a long hospital stay, many of my close family members confided to me that they had to mentally prepare to say goodbye if I didn't do something to change. Jo Ellen was able to help me to see my life and my patterns of thinking clearer than I ever had before. She has a way of bringing things to your awareness that, after you understand them, you won't believe how long you lived without realizing them. I was in such a desperate place for years, and I threw everything I could at finding help. 8 different counselors, numerous psychiatrists, antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication, every single inpatient and outpatient program offered in my town and hundreds of self help books. I credit her with teaching me the tools to get my life back on the right track when literally nothing else could. She is unbelievably well spoken, genuinely cares about her clients, and so easy to be honest and open with. She never misses a single detail and knows how to gently guide your focus back to the issue at hand. She has also reached out by text when I've been going through a particularly hard time to offer support, which was very touching and something no other counselor has done. (I also want to add that I'm not a mother, but my own mom attended a session with me and said it gave her so much peace of mind and clarity as a mother of someone with substance use issues, and even just one session very much helped our relationship.) I truly cannot recommend Jo Ellen highly enough, and am so thankful for the way she has impacted my life.
