I made an appointment as a new patient since I got new insurance. After filling out the paperwork, I waited about 25 minutes to be called in. A patient had arrived after me and left before me. When I got called into the patient room, the dentist came in and had a seat. He asked me why I was there and I said for a cleaning and x-rays. He responded with "You're just here for a cleaning and x-rays?? Why couldn't you do that with your previous dentist?" in an unfriendly tone. I said because I got a new insurance. He kind of just looked at me and then got up and left. I felt so unwelcomed by this and even asked the dental hygienist if he was a general dentist because he made it sound absurd that I was there for a cleaning. He was the dentist my new insurance had assigned to me by default, I didn't specifically pick him so like don't flatter yourself. He came back in the room for the cleaning and let me tell you, it was so painful, literally the most painful cleaning of my entire life. He did the metal scraping part and it felt very rushed too. I kept on flinching due to how painful it was. He was even trying to talk politics with me. He asked where I was born and if I was born there or here in the US. After that, he started mentioning BRICS. I thought that was super unprofessional and I felt very uncomfortable. After he was done with the scraping part, he told the dental hygienist to finish the rest and left. I have to say, the dental hygienist was really nice to me, she was trying to comfort me but I was so done at that point. If you're a new patient coming in for something simple, don't. This guy clearly only cares about money. What a terrible first impression for a new patient. I'm never going back there again. God forbid you go to a dentist's office for a cleaning and x-rays. Edit: I'm posting this review over a year later because after visiting a new dentist, I was reminded of why I had to switch offices again in the first place. In response to the owner's reply, this review was intended for the office located at 2 James Way, Suite 207, Pismo Beach, CA. I did not confuse this office with another practice. The experience described in my review is my recollection of my visit there and the reason I chose to seek dental care elsewhere.

Karen at the front desk was so kind and helpful over the phone and in person. Margaret did a great job at making me feel at ease during the exam. Dr. Stellpflug was fantastic, very friendly and knowledgable. He spent ample time explaining my case and options. Even after meeting him for the first time I can tell he really cares about me as a patient and is willing to go the extra mile to find solutions for my dental needs. One instance, I inquired about something different from what I came in for, the dentist did work on it right away to my surprise, and of course deducted the cost from my prepaid funds. There were billing errors that happened more than once, being overcharged, even when they say you get a discount. Getting my refund took time because of "corporate" office approval wait. Then I get charged for "periodontal" work $184 when I received basic cleaning - I know full well the difference. I specifically told them that I only want cleaning. With my last appointment I called first to make sure, again she said $184, and I said I want cleaning only then qouted $131. Ok so I go in for basic cleaning, upon being seated, the hygienist said that I'm due for an Xray. I told her I'd rather not at this time as I had extensive work done in their office already. She said my last xray was a year ago. I said it's not necessary, then she calls in the new dentist whom I never met before, and I felt ganged up on both convincing me. I said I'm willing to do it next time or in a year. I asked if they will do cleaning without Xray for now, again they insisted with no regard to what I wanted. So I stood up and quickly walked away. The way they made me feel was awful. This was the final straw for me. I definitely relate to what others are saying about Broad St Smiles. It's a corporate dentistry in which the main focus is to generate revenue as much as possible rather than genuine patient care. Yes, BUYER BEWARE!

Called Bauer this morning, and while they advertised first visit free, I was charged $340 as it was a last minute appointment. Okay, I needed it done so, I agreed. I brought the teeth with me and after a full evaluation, they said the gluing on would be $690!! What was I to do? I needed the teeth on and while I visibly was shocked, I agreed. Yes, $1030 later, I walked out of there with a future plan and the price but I'm still reeling with what I just paid them!! They sort of grossly overpriced themselves for me to go back. Yes, everyone is really nice and the office is beautiful, but I just wanted the tooth glued back on and I'm so shocked by the charges, I doubt I will have them do further work. Too high of an overhead, too many people working there and I should have listened to my gut instinct on the phone this morning. I have never in my life been gouged like this to have a 10 minute process done, I should've left and bought my own dental glue. Literally, I'm sick to my stomach!!

We knew we were moving to Pismo Beach so I started "interviewing" dentists in the area. I tried Oaks Dental and luckily I got an appointment with Dr. Berry. I can honestly say in my almost 60 years of going to the dentist that he is by far the best I've been to. I had a complicated situation with an old dental implant that needed to be removed. Initially he referred this type of work to an orthodontist-since this is their specialty. After seeing 2 orthos, they were unsuccessful in removing my 30+ year implant. Dr Berry wouldn't accept defeat so he took it upon himself to get creative and he was successful in getting the implant out. The removal of this implant was imperative as I needed a bridge. I just want to add that not only is he at the top of his professional game, but he's acutely aware of my time (which other doctors lack). To top it off, he's always in a great mood, even if his work load is full, and he's fun to chat with. I HIGHLY recommend Dr Berry and his staff of Julie, Office Manager and Missy, front desk. This is a fantastic office and you will be happy to have your dental care looked after by them. Thank you again Dr Berry for all the work and patience you've had with my case!

Maria works quickly and I always walk away feeling like I have a new set of teeth. The office is in a beautifully restored Craftsman style house near Highway 101 and also close to Poly. It is clean, calm and relaxing. The front office staff is also attentive and patient. They can navigate the intricacies of billing and scheduling with cheer and ease. Dr. Ian also works on Saturdays, and they can fit you in should you have a dental emergency. They can also recommend specialists in the area if you need further work like dental surgery. The only downside for me is that they are out of my dental insurance provider, but I still get partial reimbursement. I would never go anywhere else because the quality of the work here is worth paying a bit extra for!
