Just did the intermediate rider avalanche mentorship weekend which helps you grow confidence in when and how to use the info from avalanche course in the backcountry on your own. This course helps you use your own critical thinking and logic to collectively grow your backcountry awareness. Julz is really smart, but she won't just stop on the skin track to inform you of something, she will ask you insightful questions about your surroundings so you can try to figure it out what you're looking for on your own first. This method helps set you up for success by practicing paying more attention in the field instead of entirely depending on guidance. Her education in snow science meant we had answers for all of our unique questions and got me really excited to study snow and weather more. On top of being a master of snow, she's also a WFR instructor so I felt like I would be safe, but what really made me feel safe was how warm, understanding, and helpful she was when anyone was feeling scared, tired, hungry, or ill. It created a really welcoming and supportive dynamic for the group and that goes a long way on long days. Julz is such a wonderful guide and teacher. I took her Avalanche mentorship program in 22/23 and it was the perfect continuation after Aaire courses. She provides not only expert knowledge , but also models how to have the right mindset and decision making. I'm always blown away by her professionalism and appetite for improving her offerings. I was part of the Grounding Truth avalanche mentorship cohort for the 22/23 season. A program like this one was an opportunity I had been dreaming of and hoping to have for almost 10 years. Julz's program blew my expectations out of the water. The skills and community we gained were incredible. Julz creates a supportive atmosphere that is fueled by curiosity and critical thinking.
