Unbelievable! They changed their policies for their bathroom to employees only. Worst mistake ever! Will visit the other two gas stations on the way into Groton instead which have bathrooms for their customers. Price of gas is not the best in town. In fact it is at least third consistently. Pizza is worst in town. Bruno's up the road is way better. Also they have a good size Dunkin Donuts. No more visiting for here with the kids on Saturday morning before sports because of the bathroom situation. Don't want to get stuck with the kids needing to go to the bathroom. read more

This is my favorite little store in Groton. A great place to grab a slice, and is one of few places that sells Moxie(my favorite drink). Also run by some of the nicest guys in town, I'm always greeted with a friendly smile. Surprisingly good pizza for a convenient store, and a good place to grab lunch or dinner. Ignore the fact that this is a gas station. It is The Best pizza place in town! I'm not sure about previous complaints about lack of parking...how many spots do you need? There's plenty. I have no feedback regarding bathroom usage policies as I've never had the urge while visiting. You can fuel up, grab a Dunkin coffee, leave with a pizza and get a super friendly "thank you!" from any and all employees as you walk out the door. Everyone needs to disregard the past comments regarding the lack of bathrooms. This is by far one of the best gas stations in the area if I do say so myself. People be warned !! The owner Paul, (or so he says) dealt with me in a very unacceptable manner. I'm parked (little Honda Civic) in a legit parking spot, and needed to use the restroom... also wanted to grab an iced coffee (dunking donuts inside) So I proceed to almost make it inside, when he comes at me stating I needed to move my vehicle so a trucker could park in my spot. Also stating that I'm not even parked in a parking spot..(?) I'm like, I am parked in a parking spot and just need 3 mins to use the restroom. He's like NO, move it now!! Extremely mean and rude about it. When I said, I'm allowed to park and use the restroom, he then came completely unhinged, stating he's the owner and I'm causing a major scene. (Mind you, had not even raised my voice, let alone being utterly confused, totally EMBARRASSED, and thrown off guard) THEN, tells me I'm never allowed back again. (??) Be warned. There's obviously something "off" about this guy. No one behaves that nasty when given no reason. I didn't do anything wrong. Last winter my Mom's vehicle displayed the tire light meaning it needed air. I was in Groton taking her to a doctor's appointment following her heart issues; I was totally flabbergasted to see their air vending machine in a snow bank, behind about five parked cars at the end of a partially-shoveled sidewalk. I spoke up only to be told to leave. Once again my Mom went to the doc a week ago I needed gas. All the pumps in this Shell merchant had a tacky yellow card/ notice covering all the self-pay card scanners. What is this? I'm glad I didn't have use the restroom in this non-convenience store. I liked the owner with his white rasta look..the gas was about fifteen cents higher than anywhere else..that was okay because they seemed nice.. I lived in Groton but now only visit friends.. so for quite a while I would drive an hour over to Groton, I'd pull in -- fill up my tank.. buy some food.. use the restroom.. it's all good. No it isn't -- they got crazy on the bathroom thing -- as opposed to Mobil or McDonalds or any place that actually does business.. this guy put some crazy remote buzz in lock on the doors so you have to actually go buy something first.. not that I wouldn't. So, that went on for a while. it's all good. but then the other day I go buy something.. and oh -- now we don't have any public restrooms. The guys working there were flying paper airplanes laughing.. and kind of seemed amused at delivering the bad news. I could only think of the poor young mother with a young child needing to go and getting that same arrogant attitude as her kid is squirming..I could only think what an #$$ this guy is. I have a few rules of doing business.. I make a lot of money and do a lot of business by the way... rule number one is reciprocity. That's what makes businesses great -- and that's also why businesses fail. I will never go to Groton exchange again. If I run out of gas in front of the place I will walk 4 miles down to the AL PRIME on 119 just to give them the business because they are fair.. they are nice.. and they have a bathroom if I need it.. they don't even make me buy a snickers bar first as ransom!. Moving into town a few years ago and having a plethora of pizza options where we previously lived, it was a tough move into Groton. Despite the lack of options I've tried every pizza place in town. All in all I have always had a great experience at the Groton Exchange and I have been going there for years. Living in Townsend, I have to drive by it for work or anywhere I go that isn't in NH. It's about 15 minutes from my house and we have several pizza places in Townsend, yet we will drive the extra miles to get the pizza at the Groton Exchange, it's excellent and comes as close to Papa Ginos as you can get in that area. The service is always excellent and I've never been given trouble about using the restroom. (although, I have always been a paying customer when I go there.) Being in the Customer Service industry for over 20 years and a member of senior management in my career, I can say that denying people access to the restrooms for not making a purchase may not be popular, but it's their business and if you're not buying something... You're not a customer. (Pretty simple really.) Unfortunately in this day and age, people feel entitled to services even if their not a patron. Having said that, I can say that not every experience has been stellar... When you choose to use your bank card as a Debit Card, Paul will thank you for doing so because he will tell you that using the card as a debit saves him money. However if they see you have a debit card and you choose credit, you may be asked to think otherwise and select debit. (not too cool to be honest, but I learned that lesson and just select debit to avoid the question. (which isn't always asked.) The other issue is that I had ordered about 5 or 6 of the breakfast pizzas (totally awesome by the way!) for my staff as a way of thanking them for their hard work. I only had my company's AMEX card on me and although it said they accept AMEX on their window, Paul tried to deny that form of payment because AMEX kills him on fees. He mentioned at the time that he was doing away with AMEX soon and didn't want to take my card. I had to explain that it was either take the card, or eat the pizza himself. He reluctantly took it after a minute or so, but it was a bit of a turn off and I had stopped using them for a while. But like all things... Time went by any I started stopping in again from time to time. I still say that the service is excellent and it's my understanding that they do a lot for charity and the town. read more

So at 9:57 pm last night I filled up my tank, then went in to use the restroom. Lights were on everywhere. Noticed signs on restroom doors that restrooms were for paying customers only. Figured no problem. Just spent $34 on gas. NOT! Door was locked. Asked guy at desk for key and was told I couldn't use restroom because it had just been cleaned. I can't speak for the gas because I do admit their gas is too pricey for me. However I go in here all the time and I have never experienced rudeness from Paul the owner or his family-many of whom work there. I believe the bathroom situation and the need to be a customer and get buzzed in stems from a previous negative incident that happened few years ago. One bad apple has spoiled it for all, it seems. His son makes the best pizza in town. I have never seen Paul give creepy looks at girls or women while I've been in there. I'm not saying your situation didn't happen I am just giving my experience. As far as the filthy bathroom-I've never used it-so I can't speak to that. I do know that things happen with the public-even to the cleanest bathrooms-and I have had to report disgusting condtions to managers of stores, movie theaters, etc. when someone has left a bathroom in a gross state. Stopped today to get gas and then use the men's room. When I entered the store and asked to use the men's room after pumping gas, the young blond woman said I needed to be a customer. I said I was...that I had just pumped gas outside. Then the bearded clown next to her suggested that I only parked at the gas pump and didn't in fact buy gas. Are you kidding me? So my husband and I drove from Topsfield to Pepperall on Saturday, November 5th to buy a truck, we stopped at Groton Exchange for coffee - we became customers. We used the bath room, talked to other people, etc. Today, Thursday, November 10th we went back to Pepperall from Topsfield to pick up the truck. I needed to use a ladies room so I asked my husband to stop at Groton Exchange to use the ladies room. I walk in without my pocketbook in my work clothes which are professional work attire around 4PM, I went to the counter because we learned on Saturday that you have to be buzzed into the restrooms, good policy. Anyway I asked the young lady behind the counter if I could use the ladies room and she mumbled "first you have to prove you are a customer" I said "I am a customer" and she said " you have to buy something" and then the man behind the counter, I will call him Mr Dredlocks said " just buy something for 30 cents. Needless to say I walked out. I did not go in there appearing drunk , drugged or dirty, I am a 54 year old professional and I was treated with the least amount of dignity possible. If I could give negative stars I would. The place was absolutely disgusting. I live in Lunenburg, but have never stopped at this place before & this time doubles as my last. This place was completely unsanitary, especially the bathrooms. feces on the wall? Gross. This was completely unacceptable considering the fact that they made me buy a minimum of $10 in items just to use it (The 22 oz. of windshield washer fluid I paid wasn't enough!?!?!?). Anyways I felt that I should ask for a Supervisor to straighten this out and was directed to someone who said his name was Paul. He was the most ego maniacal jerk I have ever met. In trying to explain my dissatisfaction as customer and was very condescending in his responses to me, at one point even asking me if I was responsible for the feces on the wall, while he gave a condescending smirk.
