In August 2021 My daughter sustained burns on her face and shoulders from a hot bowl of chicken broth. She was admitted at West hills Hospital and treated by Dr Grossman and his team. These people are so compassionate and good at what they do. The nurses were kind and supportive and when you look at my daughter's face today you can't tell she even got burns at all. From May to June and then again July to August I was a patient with a 3rd degree burn and was treated at the UCLA West Hills Grossman Burn Center. I want to pay tribute to the supervising doctor, Peter Grossman MD and my surgeon Edwin Garcia MD. I have completely recovered from a burn and skin grafting that covered the entire left sole of my foot. The success was immeasurable. I am also tremendously grateful for the nursing care I received led by the supervising coordinator of doctors and nurses, Byron Arrivillaga. Nurses who were outstanding were; Laura, Brandon, Patti, Valerie, Krystal, Amy, Corina, ret. Lolita, Sarah, Kausi who took my vitals and the male attendant in the shower room whose name I forgot. The Third ER who refuse to take me, UCLA Regan told the EMTS that the only place that would be able to treat the severity of this 3rd degree burn would be the Grossman Burn Center. The Grossman Burn Center staff creates an extended family for burn patients. They host a survivor / supporter support group, plus annual events. Yesterday, marked the 27th Annual Dozer BBQ at West Hills Hospital for the GBC patients, staff, and "alumni" survivors and family members. Firefighters prepared and served a delicious meal with the help of volunteers, including a Boy Scout troop from Simi Valley. We've attended the event for many years. There are often at least two large fire bulldozers in attendance, on which kids love to climb. Yesterday, the dozers were pressed into service, out on the fire lines to the northeast. Several L.A.F.D. rigs stopped by for a while as a substitute. A few patients came down from the unit to be out in the fresh air with their families. This gave them an opportunity to meet long term survivors, which lends hope for their recovery. It was a cheerful, tasty event. I want to first of all thank the staff. I brought my son to this center which i was referred by the northridge medical center. I want to take the time to thank someone in specifically Her name is Lana she made me feel so comfortable she is so compassionate and truly amazing human being i don't know what words to put in order for her to understand how much my family and I appreciate her. I stayed here for 3 days now and she made me feel so comfortable and so happy she made my son feel much better throughout this worst situation situation. She is fast and professional and very knowledgeable and she knows exactly what she is doing. Wish he had been taken there from the day of his injury but everything worked out well once we got him to the center . Recently I got a super icky 2nd degree burn on my hand and the ER made me go to the Grossman Burn Clinic the next day, which sucked b/c it's about 45 min from my house. Well, I'm glad I went bc they sure know their shit over there. The worst burn clinic on the planet! The surgon did a great job as did a handful of the nurses. The fact that a burn nurse would actually grab the burn site to manipulate my foot is truly remarkable. The fact that it happened 5 times (with different burn nurses) while an inpatient and twice while there for a follow up is unimaginable. Go to USC or Torrance. I visited the center for consultation for my burn, I had little burn very little (less than half inch!! ) And the doctor told my he will fix by 0,1 cm (1mm) for 12,500 dollars!! We rushed my child to West Hills Hospital for a burn, not knowing that one of the best burn centers was also located there. Our experience from the moment we were admitted was fantastic. The nurses were amazing with us and our 2 year old..... they made a horribly traumatic experience so much more bearable for all us. Please don't go here especially with your child. I took my daughter for a burn she and they told me she needed major surgery and a skin graft or it could get infected. My husband and I were so upset and my daughter was crying. We fortunately took her to another Dr. for a second opinion who told us her leg was healing fine and she DID NOT need surgery and what I was told at Grossman was considered MALPRACTICE. Terrible, unethical doctors and nurses. You can see that I don't post much but if this stops someone from going through what we went through I'm glad I did. read more

This is most un-ethical Medical establishment that I have ever been to. Not only are they arrogant, they also are greedy. I went here for a burn. The doctor immediately looked at it and said it needed a skin graft and he needed to do it tomorrow. I would have to be admitted for 10 days inpatient. First of all, he never explained a single thing to me. No other options were given and the nurse was also plain rude in saying that I am denying care for not immediately saying "Sure, let me pack everything and come tomorrow". Not only did they not explain what the procedure was, they never stated there were alternatives, and they didn't give me a second to think about it before chiding that I am "denying care". Since I wanted a second opinion, I left and all the nurse did was bandage my foot with silvadene bandages. Needless to say, I went to another burn center for a second opinion. I am glad I did because my foot was able to close on it's own with the help of some enzymatic debridement cream. The reason Grossman wanted the skin graft was because of all the fees and payments that they would get for it. The didn't care if it may have been overkill or whether the patient could afford it. These people here are vile and I would never go to this hospital let alone the burn center ever again. If you need a burn center, go to USC, the Torrance one, or even UCI. These people here do not have your best interest in mind. They just want to charge your health insurance as much money as possible. My bill later for a 2 minute look at a deep partial tissue burn and some bandages was over $130 and this was after insurance paid them $1600 for the hospital and another $800 in physician fees. For 15 minutes worth of work, the hospital and physician made over $2400 to look at a burn and to apply bandages. I am sure that the skin graft surgery would have cost over $30,000 and my co-insurance bill would have been several thousand dollars given the outrageous bill they sent insurance for 15 minutes worth of work. Dr Grossman was incredible with me and my family when we had treatment this summer, unfortunately our accident was with my 2 year old daughter who had to have extensive skin grafts, they were as kind, professional and caring as it gets. I loved how they were so children friendly- there was a room dedicated for kids like a little daycare with all kinds of puzzles, games, paints and fun- so she was able to have some fun activities and brightness whilst recovering for the two weeks we were there- there was even a child physcologist working with her. Dr Grossman was wonderful, very, very professional and kind and the follow up has been amazing. My only wish is that there comes a time when skin grafting is no longer used and replaced with a new technology. If you need skin grafting Dr Grossman is your man! read more

Ok so I am a burn patient. I burned most of my face, neck chest and my left arm. This is a very hard thing for me. Oddly I have been taking it very well. One because I want to stay strong and positive and two I don't want to show my family that I am uncomfortable in anyway. I went to Saint Joseph's hospital in Burbank ( everyone there were great, funny, and super supportive) they recommended me to come to the Grossman burn center mainly because most of my face is what got burned. I have been calling them for 3 days trying to make a appointment. Just because I don't want to extend it more then it should. I want my face and my body to heal as quickly as possible. But they are not making it easy at all. Every time I called the first this they asked was the authorization code. They didn't even want to give me a appointment with out it. Today my insurance group called me personally to ask me how I am and they gave me the code to write down just so again the situation doesn't get extended more. So I finally am able to call give them my autorotation code to finally make a appointment! But No! Wait a minute I get a rude man instead. A worker named Mike picked up the phone and I said I would like to make a appointment I have my authorization code with me. He tells me to read it to him. So I say 201 , and he cuts me off before I got to say the rest of the numbers and says nope I don't have a fax here. Tell you primary Dr to fax it to us. And I attempted to explain to him that my medical group called and gave it to me. But again he kept cutting me off. So I reached out to my primary doctor and she said she already faxed it. And then I call back to the burn center and I get the him on the line again. And at this point I am already feeling emotionally hurt and just straight out pissed that this man is just being a ass to a patient. And I say ok they sent it and he said Nope I have nothing and I am the only one who gets the faxes. Now I am just mad that I am constantly being told to call here and call back so I ask him, can I just bring the papers to you because clearly you are not receiving them. And he got a little shocked that I said that he's like no just have them fax it again. And I say but what if you don't get it again. I don't want to constantly be calling back and fourth. And he's like well I don't know what to say I am just very busy with burn patients. And that was when I just blew up! I yelled at him saying I am a burn patient as well you ass! ( okay so back to when I said I was taking all this fairly well, well nope that all went to shit after this ass started talking like that. I just exploded crying!) First of all you work at a medical place you work with patients and their families who have feelings and emotions and the people who come there are burn patients it is very emotional for all of the patients. Be a little understanding and respectful! It's called customer service and not being a total ass! So now I am stuck not knowing where to go because I was told this was a great place. I don't even want to waist my time going there any more! Because if the person on the phone was acting arrogant then maybe they all will. First impressions do matter. I am going to contact my medical group just to let them know of this whole matter and maybe get another authorization for somewhere els. Absolutely the worst experience of my life! My dying mother was treated in a callous and unprofessional manner from her entry into the hospital through discharge to Vitas hospice . (They were also a nightmare!) She was transferred to palliative care without notice and her chart was lost! Tests were ordered but never given, (or the results lost or not charted), life preserving treatment withdrawn without family permission, and we were blatantly lied to by several nurses about her chart as well as their participation in its' "loss" and recovery. This delayed the treatment she could have been receiving to ease her pain and suffering. There were a few good nurses but overall the experience was beyond disgusting. In a place where compassion, understanding, and professionalism should be the norm, my mother and my family were subjected to lies, incompetence and gross negligence. The last few days of my mothers' life were already so difficult for my family and Grossman Burn Center and Vitas Healthcare at West Hills Hospital made them absolutely unbearable.
