Firsts time here and while the first few drinks were great and passing time I got thrown up on I brushed it off told the girl it was fine and I told the bartender what happened he got me new drinks but by the time I finished my new 1st drink and went to the bathroom as soon as I got back to my table I got told to leave no reason why and I got pushed to the door no understanding no explanation no reason I just got told to leave wouldn't recommend this place to ANYONE WHO IS TRYING THIS FOR A FIRST TIME. Today my truck was broken into and my tools stolen right in front of the club while I was having a drink with friends. This place is not secure ,I reported the incident to the guy checking iD's and he didn't bother to care. Groovy's night club are theives! We had a $20 bill Saturday night which we signed for and they correctly charged. The. They came in with an 80 charge (62 bill and tip) and put that additional charge on our card. Since I was home and it was only hubby who bought 2 drinks, no one spent that extra, they just put it on our card and won't return calls or messages. I really like Groovy's probably my favorite club in OKC. They play 70s-90s music and some early 2000s as well. There are couches, and a few seating and dancing areas around the club, it's not a big building. Ladies get in for free before 9PM on Saturday's, and guys get in for $9.00. This was what we were told last weekend when we went, and this is what we paid. We always have a good time, but the one thing I hate the most is the smoking. I always cough a ton when I'm here due to all the vapers and cigarette smokers, and when I get home I have to immediately take a shower and make sure my clothes are in the wash due to the awful smoke smells. But, if smoke doesn't bother you, they make strong drinks, and play good music. This is a great club if you're over the age of 30, very age appropriate. read more

Groovys is a fun place to go for a night out. It's great for any age (over 21). It's not too crazy but not boring either. I like that they have a throwback concept. It makes them more unique compared to other places, and in general just makes it more interesting than any other more plain or standard dance place/ bar. There's a small dance floor, a bar, and a good amount of seating. It's on the smaller side compared to similar places. One time I went and they were pretty busy. This was a Saturday night. Another time I went on a Thursday night and my group were the only ones there... so I guess it just really depends on timing with this place and how lively it will be. One good thing was that when I went on Thursday there wasn't a cover charge, which after reading other people's reviews I was expecting to have to pay. I'm not sure if this was because it was Thursday, or because it wasn't busy at all, but I was very happy about it (I really hate cover charges...)! So at Groovys, they'll more or less go through the decades each night, and when it gets to midnight, confetti rains down on the dance floor. It's really fun!!! Plus, I appreciated that they did the confetti for my group of about 7, even though we were the only ones there. They could have easily decided that that few people weren't worth wasting a night's worth of confetti on, but they did. This shows me that no matter what, if you come to Groovys they'll want to do what they can to make it a fun night! read more

We tried to go to Groovy's for a friend's birthday party. My husband and I got in with a couple other friends, only to find that the birthday boy had been denied entry because he was wearing sandals. Apparently women can wear open-toed shoes but men cannot. When we asked for a refund for the money we had just paid 3 mins earlier so we could leave with our friends they gave us a hard time. For a place that bills itself on being inclusive, they were giving off serious gender discriminatory, jerky vibes. read more

I was to meet a group of friends at the club but on arriving was not allowed to enter the club. I was told that my dress was fine but I could not enter because I was not wearing closed toe shoes. I was told that a man is required by dress code must wear closed toe shoes. Women are allowed sandles or open toe heals but not men. I asked it I was transgender and came to the club as a woman open toes would be ok? I was told that any man must wear closed toe shoes. I am a retired Fighter/paramedic and have run multiple emergency calls inside the club over my 30 years in service. Always in the past I had contact with the on duty manager when on a call. When I asked to speak to the on duty manager and the security person refusing entry for my sandles specifically refused to notify the on duty Mgr as well as denied there was anybody in the club as acting manager. While over the many years I have lived in the area and attended the club in saddles on prior occasions today I was denied entry and when questioned was told by club staff that they would and do discriminate. This is a completely unacceptable policy as stated by both the woman taking the cover charge as well as the unsavory security person. I fail to understand how a club that is known to be open to individuals of alternate lifestyles could or would voice that they do and would actively discriminate against anyone? read more

I actually really do love Groovys, but I'm only giving it 3 stars for the following reasons: -Every time I've gone, there's been a $10 cover to get in. I hate having to pay covers to get into places. -You can't bring drinks on the dance floor. I understand why, but it kind of sucks. Most people want a drink in their hand when they're dancing. -It's a pretty small place so it gets really crowded and the music is also really loud so don't be surprised if your voice is hoarse the next morning from yelling all night. Here are my pros: -I love that they play older music. It's different and fun. -It's a really great place to go with a group of friends and just let loose and have a good time. -They don't skimp on drinks. So, there you have it. When I was single this place was sadly my second home. I knew the bouncer/greeters/bartenders and management staff. I hate covers but this place was a $10 cover which in my mind now looking back is crazy expensive for a cover in Oklahoma!! The music at the beginning of the night when they open which I think is around 8ish starts out at 60/70 music and just goes up to the more recent decades, 80s/90s/early 2000's... Around midnight when confetti falls from the disco ball they're playing 80s and Whitney Houston or Michael Jackson is playing in the background. They show the music videos of the songs playing which is a huge plus and recently added within the past few years! If you have a big group and wanting go to visit someplace different for a drink this is your place the people watching is superb, the bartenders are nice and the drinks are super cheap!! Plus they serve sonic style ice it's amazing. Just be sure not to bring your drink on the dance floor or you'll get yelled out like I used to be... whoops! read more

So we tried to go tonight yo this bar. We were stopped at the door and the Security guy would not let us in because my friend was wearing sandals with his docker shorts and golf shirt. He stated that there was a dress code and no open toed shoes were allowed. He then proceeded to allow three women in and two were wearing open toe heels and the last had flip flops on. My friend then asked what the difference was and the security guard said they were girls. We asked to speak yo a manager and he was rude and told us he wouldn't get a manager because he didn't have to. I had my first Groovys experience this weekend, and it was a blast! Paying the $9 cover did not bother me because I felt I received more than $9 worth of entertainment. The tunes here can please any crowd. Hits from the 80s, 90s, and the 00s blared from the sound system. Confetti rained down on us dancers a few times further fueling our dancing. Groovys security team and bartender were incredibly polite, which is something you don't often see at bars or dance clubs. You can't bring drinks onto the dance floor here which is a bummer. I was unfamiliar with this rule, but a member of the security team calmly and politely informed me of this. The bartender was friendly, listened well, and kept us full of water in addition to well-mixed drinks. Groovys is in a great location for those of us north of the Plaza, Paseo, 23rd, and Midtown. I would be here all the time except for two things: smoking is allowed, and drinks are not allowed on the dance floor. I came home smelling like I had smoked a pack of cigarettes. Because drinks are not allowed on the floor, I had to drink much faster than I normally do and discouraged me from buying more drinks. All in all, Groovys is a great place to dance with your friends and party with a lot of friendly people! read more

I waited for groovys to open back up after being closed and was so excited to come back to one of my favorite clubs ever. I have returned 4 times since it's reopening and I have been so sorely disappointed that I won't be going back (at least for a while). The music situation is ATROCIOUS. The juke box is broken, no DJ, no way to control the music. The staff told me that their boss has a playlist that simply plays throughout the night. Unfortunately, that playlist is nothing like the 70's/80's/90's music we know and love to dance to at Groovys. It's disappointing to see them stray from what makes them so special. A dance club should prioritize their music more, especially when their patrons are paying a $10 cover fee. read more

Last night (2/1/19) my boyfriend and I went with some friends to celebrate his birthday. Since I was in heels, the guys were trying to find me a chair by the bar.. well, there were two at the end that were open (from what we all saw) as I grab the bar stool the old man with the gray hair working the fog machine (who had his black shirt open wearing a necklace) SNATCHES.. and I am not being dramatic but very very rudely snatches the bar stool back from me and disgustingly waved a finger at me and was completely out of line with an attitude about it for a good minute. He was rude, uninviting and overall had an unpleasant and disgusting attitude towards us all.Instead of coming to me, like a man and explaining it was taken (prob would have taken three seconds and I would have been fine) he decided to be an awful human which left us all with our mouth open. It completely ruined the birthday spirit. First off, I never care to write reviews unless it's a great experience but this has left such an awful impact that I woke up still feeling some type of way and had to say something. . I get people have bad days, but please don't reflect your negativity on other people and learn how to effectively communicate without pissing off a whole birthday party. read more

They 80s are back and they want to dance! I'm surprised that there are not more reviews of this OKC dance instutituion, if there is such a thing in OKC? Is there? And I'm not talking about doing the 'Gator at Sherlocks. All the cool kids will know what I'm talking about. Groovy's is a tiny little nondescript bar located just off of Northwest Expressway that from the outside belies the good times to be had within. It is clean and dare I say it, even classy - or much classier than most other "dance" joints in OKC. Enjoy listening and or dancing to the greatest sappy top 40 hits from the 70s, 80s and beyond? Then this is your place! There is outstanding people watching as the very small dance floor is located within view of all of the booths and tables. So, should you enjoy getting your swerve on occasion, by all means take a gambol on Groovy's hallowed ground. Where else can you hear Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Surivive," Journey's "Don't Stop Believing," Madonna's "Into The Groove" and then that old dance staple "Rump Shaker" by Wreckx-N-Effect all in one night? I certainly wouldn't have known but now I do -its at Groovy's! All you'll wanna do is zoom a zoom zoom and a boom boom while sweat hogging the night away. As a stereotypical white boy I'm not much of a hoofer, but compared to a few people I've seen I'm practically Travolta (the good Travolta, not the old, bloated male masseuse groping Barbarino of today) when (albeit after a few bouts of liquid courage) I step onto that dance floor. And that's the best part - nobody cares as everyone of all stripes, ages, and sexual predilection is too busy having fun to care that you have two left feet. Or if you can get your Hustle on with the best of them, strut your stuff baby! The crowd here is a sundry group of dancers and watchers alike ranging in age from 20s to some folks pushing their 60s and thankfully there is not too much boot scootin' and you won't see any annoying line dancers. They will however occasionally throw a bone to those few belt buckles as big as your forehead wearing folk, but a casual country song here and there doesn't destroy the fun. Drinks are relatively inexpensive and they have a great selection of imported beer as well. If you come before 9 be sure and have your flannels on - they keep that thermostat on sub zero until later in the night when it is so packed and crowded it feels like the Sahara in there. These so-so reviews make me sad! I hadn't been to Groovys until recently, and imagined it as a place that played '70s music with a middle-aged crowd. I'm 24, so that doesn't sound like my kind of place. My friends assured me it's not like that anymore, so I gave in and tagged along. I am so glad I did! I don't know how many times I've said, "There needs to be a bar/club that plays '90s pop." Well, Groovys is it. There was a good mix of '80s, '90s and today's hits that just makes for a really fun atmosphere. And I will say Groovys had literally the most diverse crowd I have seen at any establishment in Oklahoma. Early 20s like myself, people in their 50s and 60s, and everywhere in between. I think it makes for a fun and interesting atmosphere because everyone just dances and dances and has a blast. It's not very big, so we waited in line for about 30 minutes (it was around 11 on a Saturday night). Some reviewers mentioned the bouncer coming to get friends out of line, which was annoying, but I feel like that happens everywhere. $9 cover is no bueno, but it is what it is. Went here for a friends birthday with a large group of people - I was very shocked at the $9 cover for a place of this quality but whatever. There was quite a large line waiting to get in so I figured it had to be a decent place. I was extremely turned off by the smoky atmosphere but the strong drinks eventually eased my suffering. It is a different kind of place - a wide mix of people/ages. There was a middle aged woman in a very tight red dress dancing with herself in the corner the whole night and nobody seemed to care. It doesn't seem like something out of the norm for Groovys. The music is fun and easy to dance to (a wide range of 70s-90s mix). The night we went the dance floor was pretty much packed all night. I had an "A-ok" time but there are plenty of other bars in the area that I would much rather go to (especially with little to no cover charge). read more

Ok so there is a $9 cover to get in and that is annoying but, it serves a purpose. I think it helps to keep the people out that are looking for trouble. The people that are inside are the best mixed bag of characters I have ever witnessed in one place. You have your cougars, your young guys who love cougars, older men looking for younger ladies, gold diggers, flash dancers, people in costume (not just on halloween) bachelorette parties, dude bros, and they all have one thing in common. They are looking to party and have a good time! I have read complaints that the drinks are bad but, I enjoyed my drinks. I didn't spend a lot of time waiting to get a drink which is also nice. The hardest part was navigating through the crowd and dancing your way to the bar! The biggest complaint I have is the bathroom situation. The toilets overflowed with water and the floor was flooded. A guy came and mopped it up but he didn't find the problem so guess what... It flooded again. It gets very busy and a couple of my friends had to wait in line to get in. It is pretty smokey but what bar in Okc isn't? The music is all older stuff. It ranges from 70s to 90s music with a lot of boy band representation.
