Updating to say we will officially not be returning to this place ever again!!!! Thankful to have found a better barber than what this place could have ever offered (cheaper too ). Groovy's place however has poor customer service and management skills all around. My previous conversation with the manager about my previous visit was not helpful.I had to sit through her boring ass making excuses for grown ass adults acting like children. I just wanted my refund at that point but she never offered it herself. I literally had to ask for it myself but she knew her employee's royally fucked up. Do not step foot in here if you care about your child's hair!!!! SERIOUSLY! Our photos with Santa this year suffered from still growing out the awful cuts given. I would actually recommend an old man barbershop for your young men! Not a sports clips, but an actual barber. The women in this shop have no idea how to cut children's hair and the texture is different. If you're somehow possessed into stepping foot into here I would only recommend Jojo as she cut their hair the first two visits DECENTLY. Joann was so sweet and very attentive to my son easing all his fears and mine. Lisa was very sweet and cheerful for my son complimenting his new cut. You can tell these ladies are both lovely and love what they do! I loved everything from when I was greeted when I walked in, to when my son picked out the cop car he wanted to get cut in, how well Joann cut his hair, and I especially loved how they saved his hair and for us and gave us the before and after photo and certificate. For anyone complaining about waiting we were able to go in and out without a wait. The level of care that my child received during his visit I would definitely go back and wait to receive. My granddaughter got her nails done and loved that and the nail technician that did them. However, she has very thick long hair which the lady cutting her hair was hurting my granddaughter by using a regular comb on her hair the whole time. The hair cut was not flattering. read more

Summary: I said a trim not a bowl cut to the top of his ear! Why use an electric razor on a 1st haircut? Yelling That's enough and Take a Break didn't Stop the hairdresser. I took my 1 year old here because the pictures seemed like a good place for a fist time haircut with the cars to sit in. The hairdresser with the tattooed fingers was awful. I kept trying to distract my son with a lollipop (that thankfully I brought because they just had the tiny choking hazard dum dums). The lady put on a show for him, without sound! and I told her it wouldn't work because he doesn't watch TV. He is one. I repeatedly told her to take breaks because he was crying so hard, clearly upset. It wasn't even ten seconds later and she kept trying to clipper his hair. I kept yelling through my mask that's enough! It was traumatizing. When the other hair dresser got done with her cut she was able to distract him with a sling, which I had no idea there were toys because his hairdresser didn't even try to make him feel comforted. I wish that other hairdresser would've stepped in and took over or stay and help me. Instead the "scissor happy" (except worse because it was an electric razor) hairdresser kept going. If you can see from the picture the bottom hair ends all the way at the top of his ear, 2 inches too short like what the hell!!! My son was so loud with distraught. I hate this place. My husband couldn't go because of their COVID one parent only rule otherwise he would've made her use scissors only. I am not a boy so I don't know anything about electric razors. I just figured she's a hair dresser and this place has first haircut packages so they should be experienced and know how to cut hair for first timers. No!! I kept putting my hands over his ears because she had no regard for his safety. The first bad mess up she had, she deflected responsibility and said you need to vacuum and blow dry your hair so he's not scared of the noise. I told her I do, (duh it's a basic thing to do in a home). I told her that's enough and stood him up. He leaned into me for comfort and then she kept going to the other side!! He screamed again and she messed up. I finally yelled We are done! Then she said yes that's the best it's going to get. SMH! We've been getting our now 4-year-old daughter's hair cut here since she was a toddler, and the stylists are always very attentive and patient. She normally hates getting her hair brushed and styled, but she loves sitting in the Barbie jeep and watching TV while they expertly detangle and trim her hair. Her cuts have never been anything "fancy" but they always look good, and the atmosphere makes the price worth it. Once when she was around 2, they weren't busy and the stylist even did her nails for free. Unless you want to wait, especially on the weekends, be sure to get an appointment in advance and arrive a few minutes early. The first ones of the day are best. We took our two year old son in to get a trim. He doesn't have the standard no-frills boys short hair cut and it was important to us that he keep his curls. He just needed a bang trim and a shape up. Took my 8 year old son here for the first time for a 'back to school' haircut. The salon was crowded (as anyone would guess it would be, being a Sunday and the day before school started back), but they only had about 3 or 4 stylists working. There were at least 9 chairs and 5 open with no stylist. Maybe they are understaffed? They were really disorganized and kept calling names off the walk-in list when it was clear that these kids were already in a chair or had already left. There was no sense of urgency and it took them a good 5 minutes to ring each person up, which made the waiting for a stylist even longer. Also, they had absolutely no magazines for moms looking to pass the time. I know this is a kid's salon, but who do they think brings the kids to get their hair cut? The only reason for the 2nd star is that the stylist did give my son a decent cut. read more

I brought my son here when he was 1 and now he's 3. She went from sitting on my lap to sitting on his own in the cars and then go sitting on his own in a chair. He didn't like his first haircut at another location so when I brought him to Groovy after a friend recommended it to us I thought he was going to cry but nope I was shocked he did not cry. We went here for the first time today. My 3 yr old son likes to sit in cars when he gets his haircut (we have gone to other places in different cities with same concept). I went thru the website to make a reservation and got a phone call later in the afternoon from the business confirming my appt. for a weekday late afternoon time. We popped in last night to get my 3 yr old daughter's hair trimmed. Would've been her 3rd visit. We were walk-ins with no appointment, so we expected a bit of a wait. I signed us in, sat down. I think there were 2-3 stylists there & maybe the same number of actual customers. Yet, we waited and waited. And I wouldn't have mind the wait too bad had we been greeted, or even acknowledged. The 2 ladies there, that I knew for sure were working, walked by us several times and never made eye contact, never greeted, never smiled. In fact, they looked distracted or peeved or maybe just having a bad day or would rather be any where else - I'm not sure. But I just thought this kind of 'service' didn't deserve our business. Further, I know I sure wouldn't sit in anyone's chair who doesn't seem the slightest bit happy to have a customer and ask them to wield scissors all around my head. So, we up and left. We hit Great Clips for a trim that cost $6 less. I'm not asking for confetti or live entertainment when I walk in. A simple smile & a "We'll be with you soon as we can," would've sufficed. read more

Our son is two years old and absolutely hates to get his haircut. This was our first time to try a kid oriented salon much less a groovy cuts. I have no idea what all the negative reviews are about - it was an amazing experience!! He still cried and threw a fit- 92% of our time in the chair was still melt down mode. But Laurie our stylist was so patient and so gentle. From time to time she would stop cutting his hair to hug him and console him... and you know what? It worked!!! She even used the clippers on his Lovey to show him that there was nothing to be afraid of. We sat in the police car and while he was still too worked up to truly enjoy it- he did seem mildly distracted by it. Next time, I think he'll like it even more. At one point they even blew bubbles to try and distract him!! Seriously, in my opinion the level of service was off the charts. We had a great experience at Groovys. My son got his first haircut yesterday in the police car. He sat right down and was in a trance over the Thomas the train DVD playing. We made an appointment the day before and walked right in, it was a perfect time to go in 2:00 on a Tuesday. Ashley was our stylist and she did an amazing job and I couldn't be happier with my son's first haircut! Sweet friendly people doing a great job, we were in and out and not pressured into any products like a lot of salons do. We will be coming back for his next one for sure! My 1.5 year old son had the worst hair cut at Groovy Cuts! I told the lady who cut his hair to trim it up on the top, and go shorter on the back. Obviously my 1.5 toddler was not as cooperative as the other older kids there, and he was treated accordingly. I could tell the stylist was ready for us to leave, shortly after starting the hair cut. We ended up having to take him out of the car, and sitting in a regular seat, with my son on my lap. My child was a little more cooperative at this point- and as much as I dreaded the end result of the hair cut, we left and went next door to Which Wich. While eating our lunch, my sons hair dried (it was very wet when we left, concealing the hacked hair that was about to make an appearance).. once the hair dried, it looked like someone had just taken scissors and hacked out large clumps of his hair in the back.. there were LINES from the scissors all around his head! It was awful! We went straight back, and someone else attempted to fix the cut, but it took nearly 3 months to grow his hair back and fix that haircut...Unless your child is getting a full shaved head, I would not go here for a hair cut.. Also- his bangs were straight across, looking like Jim Carey from Dumb & Dumber... my poor baby. read more

We have been going to this Groovy Cuts for years and both children got their first haircuts here. Today we went in to fix a crooked haircut on my two year old and to get my 5 year old daughter's first big girl haircut! When we went in we explained that we had been in a couple weeks back and that the stylist had cut the back pretty crooked and we needed to get it fixed. Knowing I had waited so long I fully expected to pay for both cuts. I never asked for it to be discounted or comped. The stylist was great and fixed his hair quickly and it looked great. Then she gave my daughter a great haircut. The cutest bob ever! But when we went to pay it turned into a circus. They told me my total and it was obviously just the one haircut. I was pleasantly surprised that they chose to fix my sons hair for free even though I had waited. But then the receptionist proceeded to tell me that I had told them that we came in just the day before and we must have gone somewhere else for the bad haircut because it had been a few weeks since we had been there. I just said. Well I am sorry you are right it was a few weeks ago, either you misunderstood me or I misspoke but it was here that we got the haircut and it was a few weeks ago. Then it just got more and more juvenile from there. They just could not stop telling me that we had said the day before. They just kept telling me we must not have gotten the cut there and all but said that we had lied about the day we had come in over and over and over. The manager came over and it got worse. Over and over she just hammered at the fact that I had told them the wrong day and that she heard me say the wrong day. All of this is going on (very loudly) in front of all the other customers and MY CHILDREN and my husband. Finally, I just said I never expected a free haircut. I can pay for both haircuts. I was simply trying to let you know that the stylist had cut it crooked. We just wanted it straightened out. By the time I left I was angry, embarrassed and frustrated. It was such a minor thing and turned into such a big issue. I will never go back to Groovy Cuts again. The manager was just very rude and curt and handled the entire situation very poorly. I will not be returning. I went in about 2 months ago to get my sons first haircut. The girl who cut is was nice but did a bad job. She made his hairline in the back super short and his hair was still a mess. I decided to give the place another shot because I like how the kids get to sit in the little cars they have there. I went today to get his hair cut again and the girl working "Ashley" was her name was rude. She seemed so stressed out about cutting a 1 year olds hair because he was crying a little bit. I mean really what 1 year old likes to get there haircut. She told me to check the back to see if it was straight because she couldnt tell. Really? I didnt go to school to cut hair. Then I asked for a trim of the hair cut he already had and the lady gave him something extremely different and to top it off didn't even know how to fix it by actually blending it in. We started going to Groovy's in January and had good experiences with Layla (short blonde hair). We have been in at least 6 times and each time we have had her it has been an enjoyable experience. My son seems to like her and she is very personable. The last 3 times we have gone in a dark haired woman has cut his hair. The first time he wasn't crying but he wasn't normal for him. She was short with me on that visit and seemed annoyed even though my son wasn't fighting, crying or fidgeting. Now he cries as soon as he sees her and she always looks put out. The last time we went in she was sour faced working on another little boy and my son got upset; he's 19months so he isn't always going to be on point. Well we hadn't even made it to the chair before she was rolling her eyes and shooting glares our way. At that point, after waiting 30minutes, I chose to leave and try to come back another time. I have since found a new salon, I understand a fussy toddler isn't something anyone wants to deal with but if you are a stylist in a childrens salon you shouldn't look pissed off the entire time. As much as I liked Layla I do not want to take my child to a place we do not feel welcome. read more

Getting my son's haircut is like pulling teeth. The last few times I took him to get his hair cut I left before the stylists could finish it because I was in tears from dealing with him kicking and screaming. Needless to say I have had to shave his head 3 times to correct the unfinished jobs! I took him to Groovy Cuts two weeks ago, he never screamed or shed a tear...first time EVER! The stylist was excellent, she let him hold the clippers, put on the movie Cars, and gave him the best haircut that I have honestly seen on a kid. My son is half italian so he has really thick hair which makes it really hard to fade, but she did a better job than my husbands stylist. The stylist my son had was a Latina girl, I really wish I new her name because she deserves a raise! The only other staff they had was a receptionist who was really sweet too. She told me they just got new owners or management, I can't remember which, but obviously from the previous reviews it made a difference! The building itself is also adorable, the kids don't sit in "barber chairs" they get to sit in lifted power wheels. Best experience ever, I'd pay $50 for the kind of service we received there. read more

I am sad to share such a disappointing review of a local business because I love nothing more than to support small business owners. While the salon is designed to be a welcoming place for little ones, the expertise level of the stylists is severely lacking. My son received a horrendous haircut in January 2012 which is still growing out over 6 months later in July. When we returned to Groovy's several days after the initial awful cut, another stylist tried to fix it but told us that it was one of the worst cuts she had ever seen and there wasn't much she could do. The owner of the salon took over a month to return my repeated calls and emails. When I did speak with the owner, she showed little to no concern over the quality of haircut that my son received. Please, look elsewhere if you are interested in a cute cut for your child - otherwise he/she may end up like my darling little one with an awful cut that still hasn't completely grown back half a year later. read more

What a terrible experience!! We just moved to this area, so I thought would try out this salon for my 3.5 and 1.5 year old son's haircuts. Before either of their hair was cut, I explained to the stylist that we were taking spring pictures this week, and I just wanted a trim for each of my sons, and that I didn't want it to really look like they just got cuts, just a cleanup. She said sure no problem! She then proceeded to chop about four inches off my youngest beautiful long hair right in the front. After stopping her in near tears, she said "oh, didn't you say you wanted it short?" The experience just got worst from there... My youngest has the worst cut I have seen. Very uneven and choppy all over, and parts of it just stick up straight. This is the worst experience I have had at a salon EVER, and we will not be going back!!! The place is okay inside, but they had absolutely no toys for the kids to play with while waiting, which I thought was very odd for a kids salon. They did have a table with a few books and colors, but it was on a high table and my little ones couldn't sit comfortably. read more

I wanted to write this review because I think this place deserves more credit than it is getting. I have been taking my boys there for about 2 years and they absolutely love it. Before coming here getting my older son's haircut was a nightmare. Now it's a big treat when I announce haircut day. The facilities are fun and clean. There is plenty to keep the kids preoccupied and I have seen magazines for adults there as well. The stylist are always very professional and courteous. We have never left with a bad haircut. My boys wear a longer and shaggy style and they have never butchered it. They have always listened to my request when I asked for a bit more layering or adjusting. Additionally they are sweet and super patient with my kids who are active and fidgety. Layla the manager rocks and I always have a great time talking to her. She was so kind to let us come in and check us for lice no charge last year when it was going around and I got severely freaked out. We have had to wait a few times but maybe 15 minutes at the longest. I think people in the Rockwall area have unreasonable expectations and are a little spoiled- this is a kids haircut shop not some high end salon people. If you want your butt kissed and a k-cup coffee while you wait you are going to have to pay 3 times as much and take them to your salon. I have never experienced any of the other complaints and frankly find them exaggerated and petty. I say go check it out for yourself. read more
