#72-2016: Quite honestly... NO clue why there is such a widespread convinction that GROM us synonymous of great gelato (ice cream)!! First off, since I love to "food shop" using all my senses, the moment you opt for those canisters with lids, there goes the 1st star off the final score. I am oftentimes torn between several flavors and aestetics oftentimes allow the needle to favor one flavor over the next. Also, flavor of the month aside, I find their gelato flavors quite limited, with hardly any inventive transgressions towards peculiar WOW factor. Prices aren't the highest but (unfortunately) they aren't cheap either. & I have tried their hot cocoa and found myself unable to finish it (despite having chosen dark cocoa and whipped cream. Great quality! It now comes with no surprise when talking about GROM. This one is strategically located in Corso Buenos Aires right in front of the metro station Loreto ( M1 Red & M2 Green). Same great quality of the others, flavors are great, they taste beautifully fresh and there are also some interesting innovative tastes. Their philosophy is their main selling point. This is how every ice cream place should make ice cream. Whenever I am back to Milano I always stop by and enjoy some real Italian ice cream. Keep it up GROM! read more

I know this is a chain but after landing in Milan during a stopover on the way to Firenze, I had to get some gelato. Which meant I had less than two hours to walk around and locate a gelato shop as soon as possible. This shop was just a few blocks away from the Milano Centrale so it was perfect timing. The variety of gelato in general supersedes what we have here in the states and Grom does a good job in not only doing that, but also offering diverse menu of offerings. I went for the two scoop on a sweet cone: Crema di Grom and Nocciola. Service was great as my Italian only consisted of a few phrases and the gentleman behind the counter spoke slowly so that I would be able to communicate in my limited scope of the language (I always try to learn a few phrases for each country I visit because that's what I love to do, not to mention learning about their culture). Afterwards, I stepped outside and sat on one of the circular stone benches outside and watched the start of the sunset consuming my gelato.
