Cabs in Athens are designed to do one thing: move drunken students between downtown bars and their beds. As a result, the typical "taxi" is a vomit-soaked jalopy that looks like it's being held together with duct tape and optimism. Anyone who has used a real taxi has no idea what they're getting into in Athens. You're better off walking, hitchhiking, waiting for the bus or simply sleeping under a bridge. It's probably still safer and more sanitary than getting into one of these rolling wrecks. It's an embarrassment to the city, and the whole system should be torn down and rebuilt from scratch, but I'm sure somebody is paying off somebody else to ensure that never happens. Beware.

Last year, I made the mistake of renting a car. What a mistake that was. I learned you don't need a rental car if you're staying in downtown Athens, and finding my way to the rental car return at the Atlanta airport was a nightmare. This year, I went with Bulldog Limousine. The drivers, both nice guys, were great, and both trips were effortless. For instance, on my return from Athens to the Atlanta airport, the driver knew just where to go and dropped me off right in front of the Delta check in area for my flight home. Every once in a while, one finds a company that does things right. Bulldog Limousine is one of them.

We were told the car would be a large SUV with bucket seats to accommodate 4 people with 2 tall (large) men. The car was a basic SUV without bucket seats. The 2 (5'2") females did not have enough room to put their feet on the floorboard in front of them. The men did not have adequate room in the middle seat. Both bench seats were hard and uncomfortable. The driver drove like a bat out of HELL, darting in and out of lanes. He even crossed over the HOV lane (illegally) in Gwinnett Co to pass a vehicle. I called to voice my concern with management and they credited us the tip to the driver- $631 for a ride to Atlanta and back to Athens was exceedingly high for the level of car and service we received. Don't trust what Bulldog Limo claims they will do because they did not honor their word with me.
