We recently signed up for weekly family training at Grit Obstacle Training, and our first visit was an absolute blast.
We arrived later than planned and missed part of the training, but the staff welcomed us right away and got us up to speed. Kurt was wonderful throughout the entire session. He guided us through the course, answered questions, kept everyone engaged, and handled our large family group with patience and flexibility.
My favorite part was watching the kids pick obstacles for us to tackle. Naturally, they gravitated toward every challenge they could find without giving a second thought to what their mama might be capable of.
We walked in and immediately found ourselves doing wall sits. That was quite the welcome.
Next came a 30-pound medicine ball. I handed mine to my 11-year-old, who looked less than thrilled about the arrangement, but she powered through and got it done.
The course had a good variety of activities. We tackled monkey bars, handstands, rope climbs, climbing walls, medicine ball exercises, and the warped wall. The rock wall surprised me because I made it to the top on my first attempt.
I hadn't touched monkey bars since childhood, but apparently it never left me because I made it across much faster than I expected. Lol.
Meanwhile, the kids were having a great time. One of my daughters completed much of the course wearing unicorn boots, which somehow made the whole thing even better.
The biggest laugh of the day belonged to my husband. During one obstacle, something snagged his pants and ripped them badly enough to expose the back of his thigh. Most people probably would've called it quits after that, but he finished the obstacle anyway and kept right on going.
The energy was high and welcoming, the atmosphere was encouraging, and nobody made beginners feel out of place. Whether someone was moving quickly or taking a little longer to figure things out, there was plenty of support and positivity.
By the time we left, everyone was smiling, laughing, and talking about which obstacles they wanted to try again next time.
If you're looking for a family activity that's active, challenging, and genuinely fun, Grit Obstacle Training is definitely worth checking out. read more
