The Steirerstöckl is a classic and ambient country restaurant and Gastgarten in the city ....well…read moreactually it's in a part of the Vienna Woods which happens to be technically within the city boundaries. It's in the attractive Pötzleinsdorf neighborhood of Vienna at the end of the Pötzleinsdorfer Schloss Park. This rustic culinary institution (founded in 1917) is fairly easy to find and well worth it. In winter it is a warm outpost when the world around it is clothed in white. In summer it can be a welcome stop on a hike in the Vienna Woods. And that is important to know. Though the food is quite good here and nicely highlights the cuisine of the Steirmark, it is also definitely not cheap to eat here. But you can also just enjoy some great Styrian wine in their outdoor garden before completing your hike and returning to the city. Anyway, if you're living in Vienna, learn where the Steirerstöckl is as there is not really another eating & drinking establishment that close to it. You never know when you might be in the Pötzleinsdorf neighborhood or surrounding Vienna Woods!

Excellent Austrian cuisine with a Styrian twist! My rating is based on the taste of the food and…read morehere are the details: Chanterelle mushroom cream soup - very good with a lot of tiny chanterelles in the bowl. Creamy and yet not too heavy. I also liked small potato chunks in the soup which added additional texture. Styrian beef carpaccio - also very good, properly dressed and well balanced. Sheep cheese carpaccio - thinly sliced home made sheep cheese with rucola and pesto. I combined it with the above beef carpaccio which made a killer pairing. Chicken skewer on a bed of salad. Woohoo! The best chicken skewer I ever had. Three different pieces of chicken on a skewer - plain, bacon wrapped and stuffed - cooked to a phenomenally juicy perfection. Pork schnitzel - breaded with an addition of pumpkin seeds and pan fried in butter to a golden perfection. Extremely tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned - possibly one of the best ones I ever had in Vienna. Ice cream dumpling - a sweet tradition that shouldn't be avoided. Hazelnut brandy - a must have. Like a liquid, alcohol rich nutella in a glass. Overall, a great performance by the Wirtshaus Steirerstöckl. The service was great and friendly and the only thing that I didn't like is that (like a lot of other restaurants in Vienna) Wirtshaus Steirerstöckl is cash only!

Wirtshaus Steirerstöckl - Kürbiskernschnitzel aus Kohlrabi. Sehr gut gemacht. Besser als die Fleischvariante, wie ich fand.

So, just like many of its neighbors in Neustift am Walde and Grinzing, Zimmerman serves the standard heuriger food - not bad, but nothing to write home about. The menu features a variety of roasted pork dishes, sausages, cheese spreads and a salad bar (small, but kinda cool). Go there to enjoy the setting and the wine (which is comparable in quality to the food they serve - also, not very expensive) and as long as you know that you are not there to experience a fine dining (or even good down to earth home cooking) experience, you'll enjoy your visit to Winehof Zimmerman.

The outside table area is on a beautiful slope under the trees with rows of picnic tables. A large party was there, which took most of the servers' time, but no matter, we weren't in a hurry. DO NOT BE IN A HURRY...remember, you're supposed to slow down in vacation. We ordered a liter of the house white and it was sooooo drinkable, so we had to order the red, too. Inside at the counter, we purchased our food which was heavy on ham, roast pork, potatoes, and cold veggie salad. Delicious! We hung out for a couple hours in the warm September evening. One of our favorite memories of Vienna. It was easy to get back to the center of Vienna, following google transit, and everything runs frequently even late at night. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

If you really want to experience Austrian tradition and Austrian hospitality then you are just…read moreright here. You can choose between smaller intimate rooms and huge rooms for celebrations. There is lots of wood and stone, which makes it kind of cozy - a typical winery. In the huge garden there is lots of green and flowers, almost like being in the parks of the Castles of Salzburg or Schoenbrunn. S'Pfiff literarily means the Whistler. But Pfiff describes a special size of beer mug that is in between the large and the small ones. This location is a very successfully renovated traditional winery of this Viennese area, called Glanzing/Döbling. The prices are a bit high, but this is compensated by the ambience and the quality. The service is excellent and the variety of food and drinks is amazing. Besides you get traditional Austrian food you can hardly find nowadays. The variety of Schnitzel and desserts is great. You even get Austrian tarts, which became kind of rare nowadays. Buffets are also arranged upon request. A great place for getting to know Austrian tradition.

Average food in an above average establishment sums up what this restaurant is all about…read more Several meals I had there were not memorable, but were definitely acceptable. The menu is Austrian and with so many Austrian restaurants around Vienna (and this goes for a lot of places in town not just this one) the food has to be exceptional to stand out. Unfortunately, s'Pfiff has an extensive menu that looks as if every dish served in the entire country is included. With a menu of that size, it is hard to produce anything that is really stellar and s'Pfiff is a perfect example of that. On a positive note, the outdoor seating area is nice and the service is fast and friendly.
