Easy access to/from Boston, I've never run into bad traffic the way the Cape is perpetually backlogged. Also a convenient location where, if you're coming from the north, you drive through the cute downtown stretch of Bristol by the water filled with cafes and shops. 2. Free entry and parking. I love the state parks in Massachusetts but I don't love the ever-increasing cost of accessing a green space, especially if you're coming from out-of-state. 3. There's so much to do - walk the paved path along the water, bike, check out the small beach, picnic, etc. My favorite spot to park is by the playground/skateboard area and then do a loop around. There's also a forested hiking trail if you want to wander around a forest without any serious elevation gain. 4. The whole place is spotless and lovingly maintained. If you're swinging through Providence and want your fill of nature, definitely recommend this park.

The water is New England rocky and murky but also very calm. Rocky beaches are meh but kids had fun. There's also a nice snack shop that has ice cream and sandwiches. The issue: it's a $30 dollar per car charge. I'm not against paying for access but the facilities are public so it's strange they'd charge that amount. Residents pay a lot less - like 10. That said there is a life guard , the beach was clean and there is staff to pay.

It's clean and there is a lifeguard on duty. There's a area in the beach at the very end closer to colt state park that my kids call crab town. They like to explore . Between finding shells and crabs they come back with a array of collectables. The area has a ton of picnic tables and a covered area to eat under so bring a picnic and stay awhile. Along with that there is a nice size playground and volley ball net. It's attached to the sports complex which has a soccer field and a baseball field. If your on the bike path it's easy to ride to. They have a bike rack to secure your bike to. There is a skate park area as well. There's always some kids trying new tricks. Fun to watch. So as you have read there is more than a beach in this review but that's just the truth. :) check it out ! BTW it's $10 to park all day ! That's a pretty good deal.

It's an easy walk, can be completed in about an hour, with beautiful water views, a little bridge to cross and lots of wildlife wandering about if you are the first to get there. I will say there were TONS of mosquitos yesterday (August 16) so I suggest waiting for fall or covering up in repellent and wearing long pants!

This small gem is tucked way in neighborhood area with plenty of parking (in winter at least) to enjoy the sounds of small waves slapping the rocky shores. Plenty of birds on the water to add a little wildlife to the mix as well. Portsmouth beach pass required, carry in/out, dogs on leash, no alcohol/smoking, swim at your own risk (no lifeguards here) and fire allowed with permit from local fire department. For that, I suggest going elsewhere for playground playing such as Pierce Beach in Somerset across the river.
