Nathan did a great job on some kitchen knives (Japanese and German). It's just him running this small local business. He seems to know and love knives. Beware other cheap services, especially at larger stores. They are just going to drop your knife into an industrial sharpener (just ask, they'll show it to you) and hope/assume that it will work on your knife, not care about the existing blade angle, etc. Nathan also did a small, extra repair to one of them at no charge, which I thought was very nice of him. read more

My very old knives needed sharpening. I was fortunate to find Grindstone in DC with easy parking-- and within biking distance of my home on Capitol Hill. Nathan Fackler answered all my questions and came out quickly when I arrived at his home/work place. Two days later I had my 6 knives back sharp as new. He doesn't yet do serrated knives unfortunately but he did even off the tip of a screwdriver that had gotten broken. Use this excellent service if your knives need sharpening. read more
