I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was sweet and tangy and very messy which paired well with a sweet tea. The meatloaf and mac & cheese was good too and a big helpin' perfect with a tart dirty lemonade. And the black cherry cheesecake square was delectable. I can see why they are so popular. Satisfyingly I can add that I ended my food trip with the Buttermilk Blues for breakfast and fresh-squeezed juice. Almost home.

Unfortunately, it's a bit of a trek for me, so it hadn't happened. However, I got a Facebook notice about a special wine and food night they were having: A New York State of Wine. It was showcasing traditional American dishes and New York wines. One thing I learned is that New York makes wine! And some of it is actually pretty darn good! So the food at Blue Plate is American-style food. The evening was a special tasting menu. Most of the courses were quite tasty and well done, and a few needed some work, but I imagine a lot of it is due to the fact that they aren't typically a tasting menu sort of place. The duck meatloaf, red snapper hash, sausages and black bean soup were pretty amazing. If that night was a good showing of what they typically do, I'll be back. I was told by one of the David's (both the owners are named David) that brunch is what they do best. Since it's my favorite meal of the day, I hope one day to trek out to Chiswick to give their brunch a chance!

We were very excited to see a London branch of Sweet Chick, and went in with the best of…read moreintentions. It's a mixed experience, and different to the US, but the bottom line is the food is still to die for. Sweet Chick don't do reservations. Which is fine - the US locations are tiny, you wait which creates a buzzy atmosphere for others, etc. The London version copies this. But when we visited for an early dinner Saturday, the venue was half empty. Hoping to eat quickly, we were told to sit at the bar, for "at most a half hour". We did this. During this time, achingly hipster bartenders slowly made cocktails from cheat sheets. The place is new, I get it, but the staff at the front end are there to bring you in. The hostess continually seated larger parties ahead of us, and at times just hung out while tables were available. This is super annoying - it's clearly part of the process, and designed to get you to spend. There was no flexibility to it, and the experience wasn't welcoming so much as just awkward. BUT - once we were seated, it became a totally different experience. Lovely, attentive service for a start. Help with choosing menu items if you want it, fast delivery that doesn't rush you, and the food...Goddamn the food. Carbs on carbs on carbs. Gooey mac and cheese with a hint of spice and crunchy crumb coating...delicious melt in the mouth biscuits (savoury scones to us) with a salt and herb crust and about a tub of butter in each... and all that before the main course. Chicken and waffles is the staple, and more than filling. Two chicken pieces, deep fried but not greasy, with a waffle. It isn't fancy, and doesn't need to be. It's just delicious and well made. Prices are reasonable - mains are in the £13-£24 range. Cocktails are nicely varied, made with cheap liquor which is a shame, but still pretty tasty. And maybe if they can iron out the intro experience to make it feel less like every other London restaurant and more like the NY joint, it would be a five star experience. Until then, put up with weird intro, it's worth it for the food. Just leave your belt at home.

While researching for a Beef Wellington restaurant to take my boyfriend as a part of our London…read morebucketlist, I identified 45 Jermyn St as best value. I made a reservation online with Seven Rooms. The address is in the business' name. To get to this restaurant you can take the Piccadilly line and exit Piccadilly Circus and it's less than a 10 minutes walk over. We headed to the area a little early to explore Piccadilly Circus and Fortnum and Mason next door. Upon entering, there is a coat check that can take our outerwear or backpacks. The card they gave us for our belongings were really fancy. Then we were seating at a cozy half booth. Since we knew what we wanted, we were able to quickly order when our server came around to take our orders. We wanted the Beef Wellington for 2 (£99.50) that comes with sides of Dauphinoise Potatoes and Green Beans in Peppercorn Sauce. We were surprised to be told it would be a 40 minutes wait time for the Beef Wellington due to the tableside sauce making, and it seemed like only one person was performing this task. We got some bread to start, but I didn't want to eat too much cause it would ruin my appetite for the main attraction. I also ordered a glass of Massale Pinot Noir (£15.25) and asked that it would be brought out when the food was ready. When the food was finally ready the tableside service was a fun show. All the ingredients were premeasured for the tableside chef, and he showed us every single ingredient he put it. Then he skillfully cut up the wellington without cracking or denting the crust. He mentioned starting out in pastry so he has some moves. The meal was a fantastic treat and the sides were much appreciated. The dauphinoise potatoes and green beans paired well with the wellington. The beef was cooked perfectly medium rare and evenly. The whole experience was definitely a treat. I would recommend it if you're looking to try a beef wellington... After experiencing the Sunday Roast in London, I would say the Sunday Roast experience was less expensive for equivalent or greater enjoyment. Nevertheless this is one of the better value establishments if you are looked specifically for a beef wellington experience.

It's at the end of the street on the corner, so don't let an Uber drop you off in the middle of the street and make you look for 45. The waiters were very nice, patient and attentive. There was a waitress who showed us each ingredient she used to make the sauce for our Beef Wellington. At the end she flambayed our sauce and we poured it on the Wellington. I didn't really feel like it added anything significant in flavor to it. The restaurant is nice and I agree with other critiques; you can go in casual but you're better off dressing nicely. I would definitely eat there again. They had a delicious potato augratin and garlic green beans.
