From the moment you crack open the menu, you know what you're getting: no gimmicks, just real-deal Filipino comfort food, with a nod to the streets via a proud offering of isaw. We went for the classics--nilaga, lechon kawali, grilled tuna belly, Java rice, garlic rice, and pork BBQ. Heavy hitters, all of them. I don't usually go for huge portions, but here? Resistance was pointless. Every bite hit like a memory you didn't know you had. The ambiance walks a fine line: traditional roots with just enough of a modern pulse to remind you where you are. Nothing sterile, nothing fake. Just good food and good people. The staff? Polite, attentive--like they actually give a damn. This is the kind of place I'd come back to without hesitation. No pretense. Just food that tells you a story. Lola Ote--my new favorite go-to in the Philippines.

We ended up pivoting to the lunch menu, and it turned out to be a great decision. The standout dish was the Pork Barbecue. It had the perfect balance of sweetness and savory flavor, and the meat was cooked just right. The Inihaw na Tenga ng Baboy (Grilled Pig Ears) was equally delicious, featuring the same excellent seasoning and smoky flavor in a different cut of pork. The Inihaw na Liempo (Grilled Pork Belly) was another winner, tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. We also enjoyed the "Bakuran" Salad, a refreshing combination of local vegetables, salted egg, and alamang (shrimp paste) that complemented the grilled dishes nicely. A special shoutout to our server, Joy, who was incredibly friendly and attentive. She got us seated quickly, and our food arrived even faster. The restaurant itself is clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully decorated, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience. We'll definitely be back and would happily recommend this place to friends and family.

The lumpia shanghai, kare kare, and crispy pata were pretty good but nothing overwhelming. The pork bbq was honestly a disappointment. It was just sour, not sweet and tangy like it should be. Prepare yourself for a wait during a holiday weekend. Lunchtime hour was about a 25 minute wait. They had plenty of traditional Filipino dishes to try. The family combo was our final choice since our group was over 10ppl. Family combo was sure a great option to share. There was sinigang, karekare, seafood and bbq plate to stab at, gulaman, fried fish. Leche flan dessert was delicious. There was plenty of food with just a bit to take to go. Everyone had full bellies. (Whew at least there's that lol) Bathroom isn't appealing prepare yourself to get toilet paper at the cashier next to it. Broken stall but the stall next to it was fine. It's cool they have a hand washing sink just outside the bathroom, which is super convenient. The tastiest plate of the order was the sinigang. Everything else was good as well not so bad !

I discovered this place because a friend (who also didn't want to share it with me!) was having a super duper BAD day. Of course, I suggested we drink somewhere near his place. He said that he wanted to get wasted and that we should drink at his "secret place." So, why is Coal awesome? Be here on Sundays to Thursdays from 5-9PM to avail of their "Drink All You Can" Promo! It's only Php99 (2.11USD)! On Fridays and Saturdays, the same promo is Php168 (3.58USD); just stick to the weekdays! In the promo mechanics, you have to order a "pulutan" that will cost you about Php200 (4.26USD). But, still, all the beer you can drink for Php99. Looove it! It is such an awesome deal. I know that they just started this promo in September 2015. So far, they've kept extending it and I hope they will keep on extending it! :D About the food, it's your typical pinoy bar food. I recommend you try the Baked Mussels, Crispy Pork Strips, Chichaocoal Bulaklak, and the Coal Pork Sisig! If you wanna go cheap when you avail of their promo, here are the "pulutans" you should order: Onion Rings, Sweet Spicy Chicken, Smoked Hungarian Sausage, and Inihaw na Liempo! It's a bit difficult to get to but the trike drivers and guards in the area know the place very well. Also, they have private KTV rooms! Perfect for barkadas or an after office chill out session. :)

What i enjoyed was the liempo dish having a good amount of seasoning and great tasting dippin sauce. The fish and chips is disappointing in every way possible (looks, flavour, texture, etc). Iced tea was good, and one thing that is nice but not exactly redemption is the sight of ABS CBN's tower right across the restaurant. But man, Tim Ho Wan is on a whole other league. The momentI but into their signature pork buns, I had to physically stop myself from crying. THIS is pure bliss, I thought. THIS is what real happiness feels like. But the happiness didn't stop there. We ordered hakao (wow), congee (it had SO MUCH century egg - it was amazing), and chicken mushroom rice (kinda meh, but it was in good company so it hardly mattered). The service was amazing as well - our orders arriving in record time and always with a smile. And you'd think that because it was a Michelin-star restaurant, you'd break the bank with one order, but the food is surprisingly cheap. Less than Php200 for each order? Yes, please.
