Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.

It has less of a pub feel than the Pant and its layout is much more that of a restaurant however the Lion still has a more casual atmosphere than a traditional restaurant and there is a big area for kids to run about outside. With regular themed nights, a good selection of fresh fish and some of the best cooked steaks I've eaten, the Lion makes for a good meal out. My only minor gripe with the Golden Lion is that I went there once and the family next to us had brought thier kids a dvd player to entertain them. They say at the table watching and listening to tweenies at full blast. When did it become acceptable to bring booming audio equptment to a restraunt? Want went through the parents minds? Anyway, I way disappointed they they wern't turfed out of the pub. Instead we asked to be moved and got a better table. Well done the golden Lion.

It's a charming little pub chock full of classic English heritage. The staff were lovely and accommodating and the selection of ales, ciders and beers were most superb. If you find yourself up in this beautiful neck of the woods (it's literally right in the middle of the picturesque Peak District),I'd highly recommend that you stop in for a Tipple!

The food itself is fairly typical pub grub. We both went for the plaice and chips on our first visit. It was on the specials board so we were expecting good things and we weren't disappointed. The portions were large, the place moist and not oily and the chips were tasty. A retro side salad of iceburg lettuce did make me inwardly chuckle and somewhat summed up the slightly old fashioned nature of the island as a whole! On the second visit my boyfriend again went for the plaice but was less impresed this time. I tried the chicken with cheese, leek and bacon sauce, which on the whole was pretty tasteless. The jacket potato was also microwaved which was a bit of a let down. The treacle sponge we had on our first visit was tasty but obviously brought in. They have a wide and varied menu here but I'm not convinced that much is produced from scratch on the premises. If you are staying in the village of Moelfre it's a good bet at least for one night, but on the whole the food and atmosphere are a little lacking. I did have to consume a couple of pints of the apptly named Dizzy Blonde ale though - how could I resist!
