We got to the Griffin about 5.30pm. We were seated by a friendly waitress. Then, after about 10 minutes, we decided to order a meal. I went up to the bar and asked if I could order food. I was told a waitress would be sent to our table to take the order in a minute. 20 minutes later, my sister had to approach the bar again to say we were still waiting to be served (this was after another family had come in and were served immediately). When we were eventually served, the meals took around 20 minutes to arrive which isn't too bad. I had Cajun chicken which was nice, It was served with chips and salad. The chips were ok but there were a lot of them. The salad was mostly red onion with a sliver of lettuce and a tiny bit of tomato and cucumber. I know a lot of places put onion in salads nowadays but this was pretty much all onion which made the whole meal smell of onions (which I guess is ok if you like them but I don't). My son had a vegetable burger which came with chips and beans. He at all the beans but didn't want the chips. He at about half the burger but wasn't keen on it. I tasted it and found it a bit spicy. The burger itself was too big for my child. I'm not complaining about the portions as they were very generous although the chicken in our meals was drowned by the pile of chips and onion and I prefer the main part of my meal to be the main part.
The service was slow and it was an effort to get someone to serve us but when we were served, the staff were very nice.
The pub was clean and the outside was nice although they advertise an adventure play area for kids but there is actually just a static wooden train (which my son liked very much) and the same old bit of grass behind the garden. However, I was impressed by the fact that while smoking is allowed outside, there is a "non-smoking" gazebo in the garden. read more
